It has been a good while since my last post, but now that the LTE is hurriedly coming my way, I'm already brimming with questions!
First and foremost, my brother (hereon known affectionately as "the Boy") is going overseas with the device in question where Sprint service will be entirely unavailable. He is leaving on the 8th and has never before braved the treacherous seas of people and problems attendant to a two-week, multi-transfer airline journey to a foreign country -- a country, dare I say, with language and custom completely unfamiliar to the Boy.
This said, I would very much like to make the entire travel experience as seamless as possible for him by training him in the art of Smartphoneship such that he is able to fend for himself should his situation come to warrant it. In this vein, I would presumably require some form of GPS app that is entirely non-reliant on internet connectivity and comes preloaded with maps for Saudi Arabia. I imagine the Boy would also find some form of WiFi-operated realtime flight itinerary app useful in the airport should he wish to check departure and arrival times for his transfer flight. I would also like to be able to schedule a series of reminders to appear on the screen with a loud buzzing noise at expected arrival times to signal his next destination, replete with the ability to draw up a picture from his SD card to display airline maps and the sort.
Should he find pressing need of an ability to place a voice call, GrooveIP over airport WiFi seems like a viable solution, providing the hotspot affords its guests free access to WiFi (how likely is this in the Chicago, Frankfurt, and Riyadh airports, I wonder?).
What apps fit the bill for noisy picture reminders and offline GPS? Are there any other options or alternatives I should consider to those I've already suggested? I simply desire to know how I can get this phone to guide the Boy to his destination with minimal interaction on my part, and how to engage in such minimal interaction if the situation demands it.

PS: For those wondering about the status of an app that utilizes the 3D's cameras to create enhanced 2D images, I'm afraid I must admit that I cancelled that project once I received my 3D and assessed the quality of its captured images, which, while fair, remained unsuitable for such rigorous algorithmic treatment.
PPS: I also feel somewhat compelled to apologize for the format of my post, and also for potentially placing it within the wrong organizational category/delineation.
