This is 1080p and this is why I abandoned my Nexus One!

Hi there. Many of you guys have seen me post. I did a couple of N1 vids. I have been a big advocate of the Nexus One. But, on Friday, I finally did it. I had been thinking about it for a week. I left T-Mobile and sold my N1. Went back to AT&T and a shiny new iPhone 3GS.

You might be thinking, "I don't care" or even wondering "why?" It might sound crazy... but the single biggest reason... is multimedia. It is not the only reason... but it is a big reason.

I hate the fact that there is no "easy" way to get my music and vids onto my phone. Sure... it isn't DIFFICULT by any means... but it just isn't smooth... it damn sure isn't "iTunes smooth."

I hate the clunky music play. And I hate that even though I have my song, album info and art arranged perfectly in iTunes, the music app turns it all into a huge clusterf*** on the phone, when I did get my music onto it. I tried the HTC Music app from the Desire ROM. It isn't much better. I thought I could live with all of this, until I decided to really put the phone through its paces as a MM device with the addition of the Bluetooth stereo in my truck.

I also have issues with T-Mobile at my apartment too. In my bed room, I get no bars and everywhere else, I get 1-2 bars. AT&T is stellar in my apartment.... strong signal all around.

Another thing I love is Visual Voicemail. I am spoiled on it and I can't live without it anymore. The T-Mo VVM is janky and will not retrieve my VM if I am connected to Wi-Fi.

And apps in general. Now I know I will not be using all 100,000 apps that are available for iPhone, but it's nice to have a choice. Also... for all of the things that can be praised for Android having an "open" app marketplace, the same kind of praise can be thrown to Apple for putting some quality control into place. Now I know there are thousands of useless fart apps or other dumb things in there, but I will tell you that many of the multiplatform apps that I have used on Android are better, more polished or have more features on iPhone. Here are some examples.... Yelp, Facebook, Midomi, ShopSavy... yes ShopSavy! On a 3GS (with autofocus camera), it scans barcodes FAST... and in various lighting situations!

Anyhow... if Google gets to making a substantial improvement to the Music app in Android 2.5 or 3.0... or "Churro" or whatever bakery goods they choose to name it after, I may check out the AT&T N1.

Anyway... that's it. I hope this doesn't sound too iPhone fanboyish. I hope to stick around this board to offer general Android advice or input.

Man! I hear ya. I sold my N1 2 weeks ago and went back to the 3gs as well. TMO was awful at my house. But after yesterday's announcement of the ATT N1.....well, i, uh,.......... yep. Bought the ATT version. Coming tomorrow. I had forgotten how bored I am with the iPhone. And the music/media I can deal with. I dunno, I may keep both. I do have my 10 day old iPhone on CL right now, though.

No doubt about it, I enjoyed my iphone 3GS, it's a good piece of kit. When it comes to gadgets and tech.... and especially phones, I am a fanboy, but not of android, apple, nokia or whetever, simply gadgets. I appreciate all gadgets, and the competition at the minute is excellent because all it means is better devices for everyone.....

Anywho, while I loved my 3GS, I just couldn't go back to one after life with my nexus. While my nexus isn't perfect, and never will be, it is far more fit for purpose to my mind, and deffo more of a keeper

I dont understand how all of you people complain about how hard it is to transfer Multimedia. When i had the iphone i hated that i need a seperate program "itunes" to transfer anything to the phone. And if you connect your phone to a different computer your basically screwed and cant do anything...

With a Nexus One all you do it plug it in and open the folder to your phone from My Computer and DRAG AND DROP. How is that more complicated than iTUNES???? Plus you can put things on your phone, go to your friends house and transfer files from you phone to his, or vise versa... Isnt that so much better, it can be used as a external hard drive (not a big one but something)

Anyway, sorry you didnt like the N1 but in terms of transferring files, there must be something wrong with you if you feel it is a "Hard" process.

The one and ONLY thing iPhone has over the N1 is the selection of apps, and recently i have been noticing more and more apple apps on the Android Market... ex: Doodle Jump (Love the Game)

I agree with you.
The Nexus one, and many other android phones are cool and customizable.
But the iPhone just shines in terms of app selection/games/multimedia, plus all around smoother performance.

Their are videos all over the place about the nexus one and you can see plenty of force closes on the nexus one. The iPhone never does that. When the iPhone says it has a feature, or does something it is better than any of the competition.

i guess it depents on the person... the iphone music app is pretty, glossy and shiny, but all i do is tap play, and put the phone back in my pocket, i dont spend all day looking at the flow of the album art:eek:... maybe thats why i dont mind the stock player?... and about the itune.. well i dont know how dificult is it to just tap on "buy" in the amazon mp3 app?... anyhaw, good luck with the 3gs man:D

Who here has tried MediaMonkey? Only about a bazillion times better than itunes, and works flawlessly with my MyTouch.

http://www.mediamonkey.com/

Hell, I just dropped all the music I want in a folder on the SD card and the media player figures it all out. You can use MM to transfer files to the SD card and then just pop it back in the phone.

Honestly, my mytouch sounds a little better than my 6g ipod.

I personally loathe iTunes. I mean, why in anyone's right mind would I want to have not a single app, but it has the be the one app on *my computer* to move any kind of files/multimedia to and from my phone.

I want to be able to put anything, anywhere, anytime *without* carrying a special cable to stick my phone into a friggin' usb slot. With N1 I only need to go to someone's place who has a digital camera and voil

Hmm...

1. drag & drop is super easy from pc to phone

2. media player clunky?
- it plays very smoothly
- all my music is organized perfectly

3. as far as t-mobile is concerned with signal.
that is subjective to where you live. it has nothing to do with the phone.

4. as far as applications, they work great for me. and if they don't usually the developers update them quickly. one of my favorite apps is gmote. wireless music and video play from my phone to pc. that program is just super awesome. there are alot of applications i use thay work perfectly.

this nexus is my first droid phone and i'm learning so much every day.

i absolutely love it! =)

yawn. who gives a crap about this thread. mods, please close.

LOL. Ok. You "gave a crap" enough to post 3 replies to it. But... I will say that YOUR post is very childish. I will argue that unlike some fanboy troll, I have owned a N1 since the beginning. I used it and gave it a fair chance. I contributed to the boards, answered some questions, posted threads and videos. This very thread is a contribution to the board... because I am a former user of the Nexus One and I am pointing out the reasons why it didn't work out FOR ME... so that another user who might be on the fence about getting the phone might read it and it will assist in their decision of what to do.

I didn't bash any particular user or make statement that will belittle any person who continues to be a Nexus One owner. It seems to me that you personally have some insecurities in yourself if you make this big of a deal about this thread.

Have a nice day!

Does it have to be a so competitive? I have the nexus because I wanted a compact, lightweight, smartphone; one that plays tunes to me when I'm walking the dog, entertains me when I'm away from civilization, can take decent photos, accesses the internet when I need info and provides communication with whomever I choose in any number of ways, and it provides all of this without me feeling as though I'm lugging around a mini computer. Horses for courses - we all have different requirements from our devices; that 1080p has explained his reasons why the nexus doesn't meet his doesn't mean that he is a bad person or that the nexus is a bad phone.

I agree with this. Some folks in here are acting like it's treasonous to choose anything other than Android. lol.

While I have a Hero, I think you have valid points.

I also have issues with T-Mobile at my apartment too. In my bed room, I get no bars and everywhere else, I get 1-2 bars. AT&T is stellar in my apartment.... strong signal all around.

This should be a primary (maybe not the only, but definitely one of the top 3) for getting a phone. I kind of went sideways on this: Hero for my phone (great Sprint coverage where I am) and Touch for media. Apple does media very well.

Anyhow... if Google gets to making a substantial improvement to the Music app in Android 2.5 or 3.0

I get this too. Playing back music (or video) on the Hero is not smooth. The first second or so of a track will skip. The rest of the track plays fine, but there's that moment where you'll here a note, then kind of a blank space, a vague "click", then the song plays. Streaming video (as in Sprint TV) is laughable. Although movies stored on my card play very well.

But the depth of color and detail on the Hero doesn't match the Touch.

We're getting to a point where media and phone will probably converge into a much better product than what we have. But I still find myself relying on two different devices.

You have to be one of the worst posters on this forum. Please, adjust your attitude and be a more constructive poster instead of giving us your little two line tirades all the time. Either that or get banned again. That was a nice break for all of us :D

1080p: I moved from a 3GS and I think it's a fantastic option. That said, you should have waited until June when the new iPhone would come out. I really like using software to sync. It makes things much easier. Those who say drag and drop have no idea what they're talking about. How is dragging and dropping easier than managing your music through software? I don't have to wade through files in a folder or figure out which song isn't in my list. It's much simpler and elegant with quality software. MediaMonkey works for my Nexus right now. I must admit I do like not having to be tied to software, however. The best would be the option of both. Hopefully Google gets something official going.

Its amazing how fiery some people get over something so small and really just personal.

Some people seem to take his choice of the iphone over android
as a personal attack.

I don't agree with the reasons quoted for the change, but I can see the point behind them

Get over it people

Enjoy your iphone 1080p, I wouldn't but it sounds like you will. We will catch you when you come back to android, because its only a matter off time until android fixes your dislikes of it, that's the point of android

You guys need to seriously chill.

I care.

Why?
Because I am strongly considering purchasing this phone when it comes to Verizon and I want to hear all things about it, positive or negative.

I also want a forum dedicated to the phone that will have an open-minded outlook and not trash people for voicing their experiences.

Please don't say people don't care, because I think you'd be surprised how many actually do.

Grow up.

I currently use a 32GB 3GS. My N1 is being delivered today. The primary reasoning for my switch is that I hate, hate, hate iTunes. I'm a windows user and I can honestly say that iTunes is the one application that I can count on to hang, crash, or become unresponsive at any given time.

I tried the Motorola Droid a couple months ago, which required a switch from AT&T to Verizon, but after 25 days I went back to the iPhone. I was hung up on the apps I had already purchased from Apple and the difference in responsiveness between the two phones. (iPhone was much more responsive than the Droid. ) This time (being that I don't need to switch carriers), I'm going to hang on to my iPhone and give the N1 a solid try. I'm really hoping the 3G reception issue is not a problem for me or my area.

I can understand your switch back to the iPhone platform. Apple may be nazi-esque in their control of hardware and software, but damnit all if the phone isn't just sweet butter.

Someone having an opinion different to your own is not trolling. Trolling is coming into threads and making pointless posts. If you don't like it, don't post just move on to another thread.

I wouldn't have an iPhone as my only device, but I do love iTunes. I've tried many MP3 players, but nothing beats my iPod Touch.

Hopefully there will be a phone to tempt you back to the Android side of things sooner or later ;)
