Why doesn't Yahoo Mail work on the WiFi connection?

This is something I have wondered about Android OS/Hero/Sprint since day one of my purchase, but I have never brought it up here. When mobile network is off and WiFi is enabled, I cannot retrieve my Yahoo Mail. It has never really bothered me, because when mobile network is connected and WiFi is off, my mail app (which is connected to Yahoo - I don't use Gmail) worked perfectly fine.

Can anybody explain this to me? Does anybody else use Yahoo as their email server and has the same issue? Is it just Google sticking it to their customers and to Yahoo by saying "ok, if you wan't to use our (#1 competitor's) email service, then we will make it so it will only work on Mobile Networks.

Hmmm that is interesting... never had to check email on wifi but sure enough it says login failed... I'm assuming it has something to do with the pop 3 server that yahoo uses only working on mobile data network. not sure though... doesn't really bother me cuz i have never had an issue checking my email having signal issues.

if you are a paying customer to Yahoo Mail Plus you can get it through WiFi...at least that was my understanding.

It's a known glitch... only workaround is to not use auto retrieval of mail if your using WiFi. I have mine set to manual and go get that account when I feel the need (wifi is off then). You might set up your g-mail acct. to get that mail and access it through g-mail.

Sucky answer... but only way I know to handle yahoo.

I gave up on getting Yahoo mail to work right. I could check my messages, but even though I told the mail client to leave them on the server, they disappeared from my in box and were only visible on the phone. Yahoo support was worthless so I abandoned that account and only use gmail now.

Just curious, is the problem on the Hero's side or Yahoo's side? I would imagine Yahoo doesn't know if you are using the cell network or wifi? To them, wouldn't it just be data?
