ICS can't have a different sound profile for message alerts and phone calls?

Trying to set up profiles where the phone will ring at night, but not alert me for emails, text msgs, IMs, etc., but the app (Llama) says this is a new change in ICS that disallows it.

For whatever reason Google decided to link the sound for the ringer and notification in one button.
I found no automated solution until I installed a custom ROM where the sounds were separated but with the option to link them.

I did see an app in the Play Store (oh how I hate that still) that let's you separate ringer and notification volumes:

I have not personally tried it, but it looks like it gets the jobs done.

Lots of people were recommending such apps without trying them.
Just because the app has separate buttons doesn't mean it works.
Since the sounds are tied by the OS, an app most likely won't separate them.

The app works according to the comments and there is also a thread over at XDA. I just didn't want to install it since it needs to run in the background 24/7.

It is super annoying though that ICS linked the two volumes together. I might try it after all though and see what effect it has on battery life.

Finally got 4.0.4 (which by the way, I can't see without hearing this in my head) with the whole Google Service apps trick posted on phandroid.

I've been very happy with it so far. I am most happy to see the fix to google navigation + music. Before, when listening to music (whether it was from Google Music, Winamp, Grooveshark or Pandora and probably many others) the Navigator's voice would stutter when the music was playing, rendering it useless unless. This meant, no navigation unless you were willing to not listen to music along with it. Which, when used in conjunction with a road trip, the scientific term is "royally bites."

Just tested it on my lunch break though (picking Pei Wei as my nav point). And I am happy to report that the stuttering is gone and now the music has its volume significantly lowered while the Nav voice speaks. In previous versions, the voice would actually mute the music entirely, which can break the flow of the song you're listening to (and thus breaking your all important "groove"). Now, it's far less jarring and even improved upon when it was working in the past.

Very nice, Google. Very nice indeed.

This is very true. I can't vouch for the other app noted above in the thread, but as pool_shark says, most of the apps like this do NOT work now on ICS, even though they claim they do. Again that one may or may not, I haven't used it. That said ..

I use a paid app called RingLeader Pro. Before ICS , it used to let me separate the volumes, and like all the other volume managers with ICS it no longer does.

However, because of some of the other features of the app, I am able to manage my notifications in a way that I can silence the notifications with the ringer volume up, though the 1 time setup is a bit extensive. Once it it set though, it works really well, and it even has a widget for changing profiles.

Essentially the app allows you to set up different profiles, and within each you can select a specific notification tone for each app, as well for as the phone ringetone. The key - I found out - is the ability to select "Silent" as a notification tone for each app I want to silence. This way I can keep the Ringer volume to full in my "Calls Only" profile, and set each app's notification tone to "silent" in that profile. This profile setup is a 1-time effort remember, then you can use it with 1 touch afterwards.

Anyway, it works for me well, though it required much less work before ICS ! I have a "Calls Only" profile, a "Vibrate" profile, a "Normal" profile, and a few others. So far it seems viable.

I used profile apps as well to "separate" ringer and notification volumes at night. Without going too technical, I just used the app to silence the phone sounds completely, but then trigger on an incoming call to set the volume up, thus making the phone still ring. Custom ROMs allow for separating the two volumes as before ICS.

If all you're doing is trying silence notifications at night (not necessarily create profiles), ICS has a Quiet Hours feature.

Settings>Sound>Quiet Hours. You can pick which notifications to silence (notifications, phone ringtones, vibration, notification light).

I'm pretty sure Quiet Hours are part of your AOKP ROM, not stock ICS.

You could be right. I found the option under the normal "Device" section of settings, not under "ROM Control" where I assumed all the "root only" stuff was. To be honest, I don't really remember if the option was there pre-root or not. Maybe someone who is unrooted or on another ROM could try it and report back?

You should check out Audio Control. Separate ringer and notification volumes, profiles, and so many other amazing features. My favorite app.

I've been using Lightflow - you can try the free Lite version first to see if it works out.

In the settings, there's a "sleep" option to set times for when notifications won't happen, and it doesn't affect the phone ringer. I can vouch that it works on the light notifications but not the sound since I always put my phone on silent when I go to sleep anyway (if you're having an emergency late at night, I'm the wrong guy to call, I'll be asleep).

But it might only work if you're rooted.
