Dismal battery life?

My phone if I use it for texting and phonecalls and tapatalk all day long goes to about 40% after about 20 hours. Not too shabby.

I think it also charges faster than the OV. Didn't time it, but from 0 to 100, it "seemed" faster.

Now my Elite is sucking power as well. Unplugged from charger yesterday, and ever since, has been dropping like a rock. Up to 8% an hour.

Using log viewer, I'm seeing a constantly recurring block of entries with this string in them... DUN_EVENT_USB_UNPLUG...repeating over and over and over..

Rebooting doesn't help. Juice Defender helps some but the drain is still much more than it was two days ago.

I'm not knowledgeable on Android..but this seems odd. Either way, something changed between my first full discharge cycle and this 2nd cycle...

If anyone has any ideas as to what to try, it would be greatly appreciated

*EDIT 1* - Just noticed that my battery graph has a line for "GPS ON"... except that my GPS is NOT on... rebooted and still there... TWOS is under 5%.

*EDIT 2* - Ok. Just got weirder. I pulled the battery and left it out for a few minutes. When I pulled the battery it was reading at 38%. Now, 30+ minutes later. It's reading at 42%!! Battery graph still shows GPS ON ..and it ain't.

The battery % is the OS's best guess as to how much juice remains. It is based upon use and voodoo (probably just an algorithm but we'll call it voodoo) and it can be wrong. And a 4% jump isn't that much at all really.

on a full charge with very light use my battery seems to last for about 25 hours. my optimus v used to last for about 3 days on the same usage stock, i kinda miss not having to charge it every night =\

Well, my log activity is just scrolling like a madman, and whatever is active is assassinating my battery. Since I had USB connection issues on Day 1, I'm thinking this one is going back to Best Buy.

If you are having issues with the USB connection and acting strange now, I'd return it and try another. Especially the USB. That starts to act flaky, how are you going to charge the phone.
I installed BetterBatteryStats on the first phone I had that was sucking the battery, but had not looked into how to read it properly as I returned the phone after the third freeze I experienced.

My new phone has great battery life compared to the first phone and have not experienced the freeze I had with the other phone.

I have read mixed reviews of Juice Defender, but I decided to try it.
It's helping to save battery even more. I says it has increased my battery life by x2.17.
At 12 1/2 hrs and at 72% battery left. The earlier screenshot posted above was a little over 11 hrs and I had 56% with about the same amount of use.

I'm having similar issues with the short battery life. The last time I charged, I only used the phone for a short time and the next morning I get a warning saying I was below 15% battery. I tried to kill background activity as much as I could, but isn't helping.

The OE battery is overheating badly and emanating a smell. This exact thing happened with a T-Mobile phone years ago and the problem wasn't present when I returned it for a second phone.

Is it possible to contact VM for an exchange instead of the retailer where it was purchased or is there a risk of receiving a refurb? If I returned mine to the online retailer, by the time I got it back I would be out a phone for at least a week. I suppose I could get a second one and later return the first one.

I don't know about Google Wallet bro. Same boat as yourself if I turn in.

My Batt has stablized since I Uninstalled JD...hoping, as you, that I don't have to do a return with all it's hassle.

Remember to Reset Google Wallet BEFORE you reset your phone though! There is some kind of "bad mojo" if you do it otherwise. See this thread - http://androidforums.com/lg-optimus...nt-google-wallet-resetting-optimus-elite.html

Anyone else's OE heating up after a short time on the internet? This is also contributing to the battery drain.

I think I've narrowed it down to that - would be helpful if this is typical or not(?)

Mine does not heat up while on the internet, it heats up while attempting to connect to 3G and the battery takes a nose dive. Some days I can be on 3G with no problem (4square, email, various wikis and a few games with data requirements) and it is fast, way faster than my Optimus V. Then other days I step outside of my wifi range and the device overheats and the battery dies tout suite.

If I bought a second phone and then returned the first one when I got it, are there any issues with VM in changing the account over to a new phone? Thanks for any info.

I would prefer to not contact LG, only because I once bought a new monitor (different company), initiated the warranty and got a refurb replacement after barely owning it as new.

I am also experiencing these battery issues. I bought my phone on the 15th and had it activated right away. Here are some observations I

I'm on Elite #2 now (with Virgin Mobile). My first Elite was draining the battery pretty rapidly quickly--I think I could have eked out 12-18 hours of life with minimal usage. I partially "solved" it by turning off most of the comms: WiFi, GPS, bluetooth, and sync. Then it started freezing up periodically, as I posted in the freezing thread.

So, I exchanged it at Best Buy for Elite #2 last night. Elite #2 is barely sipping the battery. Since unplugging this morning, I've gone ~6 hours, done a little texting, powered cycled it (to mount an SD card), messed with settings, and done a little web browsing. Battery is at 88%. All radios are on.

To summarize: I think my battery-eating, self-bricking Elite #1 was a lemon. I'm cautiously optimistic that Elite #2 is a good one. Time will tell.

P.S.
I think "MobileID" is the devil. After it hijacked my phone and downloaded a bunch of apps I didn't want, I tried to kill it. But it wouldn't go away. So I installed a plain-vanilla Gingerbread launcher and set it to default. Now MobileID is just sitting there in the background doing Richard-Branson-only-knows-what, but at least I don't have to think about it. I may end up rooting this phone just to delete that app!

Virgin Mobile makes it really easy to swap phones. Just go their website, login, click on the "Phones, Apps, and More" tab and click "Swap Phone" on the left side of the screen. All you need is the new phone's Serial Number (ESN or MEID) and they walk you through it. This process will auto-magically deactivate your old phone. You'll still probably want to do a factory reset on it to wipe out any personal data, though. (But deactivate your Google Wallet app *before* you do the factory reset!)

Be nice when we get root and rid the phone of virgin's junk and it should be better. That mobile id irks the hell out of me.

Just to clarify, you're saying to wipe the phone before I return it to the store, but is it also recommended to wipe the phone before the VM swap process?

You don't need to do anything to the old phone for the vm swap. Just wipe it before you return it to the store.

Just go to settings > privacy and reset phone

If you have setup Google wallet, do a reset from withing Google wallet first before resetting phone. This will clear all your info from the secure element which a factory reset alone won't

Stumbled on this string again and thought I would give an update.

There are times when my phone seemed to use more power, but it always has made it through a day.

I am checking the stats now:

cell standby 25%
bluetooth 25%
wi-fi 25%
phone idle 23%
display 4%

The bluetooth, wi-fi and GPS are on full time and have been that whole 22hr.

I find with heavy display usage, battery life drops, but that is expected.

I am not a heavy user and so I get longer life. If you are a heavy user, then you can expect a need to do something about it.

The one person who was having a problem with GPS usage with it off is sometimes not caused by the GPS, but by a program trying to use the GPS. The constant attempting to talk to the GPS could burn up some juice, like being in a loop, and pointing the finger at the GPS. Might even take less power to turn on the GPS

Hey all, another OE user here with VM. Moved over to them from Sprint where I had a BB for years. (And just dumb cell phones before that.)

My battery life has been rather good. With the exception of when my TWS values are high. Which sadly can happen with annoying regularity since I often work at the beach in areas where either the signal itself is weak and or if I'm in a building designed to withstand hurricanes.

As to what I have on the phone it is pretty vanilla. I have put a few games on it, an ebook reader (FBreader, a great ebook reader I've been using on my n810 for years), and Opera Mobile. However:

This I agree was rather annoying. It was odd because as soon as I activated the phone I was inside my condo, also designed to withstand hurricanes, and my signal was spotty. (I've since found spots where I can get a good signal from VM/Sprints towers.) So the download of all the MobileID stuff never happened. However as I was driving to a job one day it did decide to get all that stuff.

When I got a chance I removed all that I could from the download list and was only left with I think 2 or 3 apps that were put on the phone from MobileID that could not be removed.

Overall I'm rather pleased with the unit. I do think it sounds like some of you got some bad units with how bad the battery life has been for some. However as noted that is kinda to be expected with such a new device.

First phone must have been a dud.
- After 11 hrs with the old phone I had 20% battery left, consistently. Even with no apps installed.


The new phone's battery performance, I'm extremely happy with. Have several apps installed.
- New phone after 11 hrs have 56% battery left.
