Hi Folks,

Sorry if this thread seems inconsequential but I have been rendering myselves sleepless nights over the past couple of days ( and nights ) due to my inability to choose between the above two said android :D phones.

I like the i5700 for its zippy 800 MHz processor and that its got the 2.1 update

I like the i7500 for its 5 MP camera and flash + a larger screen to play with :)
I would have gone in for the i7500 but have been hearing about Samsung deciding against not updating it to version 2.1 which can off course be done taking the un-official channel.
Moreover the 528 Mhz processor is certainly lagging.

But still I see people in here Going after the i7500 .... Adding to it there is more threads and discussions going around on the i7500 as compared to the i5700.

Am I missing something in the i7500 or is it just that i am a stupid newbie ... I have gone through many many pages of information on this thread before posting this query.

Guys help me make a good decison

About the Processor read: http://androidforums.com/328777-post31.html

Even though, the spica has more ram, i for myself would still buy the galaxy because i like to have a big (AMOLED) Display and a Camera with Flash.

The phone works great with current 1.5 Stock/Custom Roms.
Also the Phone looks awesome compared to the Spica with his strange colored buttons.

afaik, the i5700's screen isn't smaller at all.

To be honest, if I hadn't bought the i7500 months ago, I'd now wait until I was sure that the official i5700 2.1 firmware is available for download, and then buy one.

reasons:
- I don't care about the camera and flash
- the price
- 2.1

However, since I have the i7500, I'm stuck trying various 'leaked' firmwares.

Don't get me wrong, I like the i7500 hardware, but at it's current (official) 1.5 firmware, no way it's worth 100€ more than the i5700 with official 2.1.

Hi,

Thnx for your reply

Still wonder why SAMSUNG does not want to update it to 2.1

Does Spica really have more RAM...I thought that both of them had 128 MB RAM.

I also heard that The Flash on i7500 is not very great...But only good for normal shooting.... How do you like the camera with the flash...

Definitely agree with you that Galaxy looks cool as compared to Spica.

Adding to it...ROMS and coustom ROMS really add to my confusion

Price wise : They are priced not very far from each other

Well, i heared also a lot of bad things about the Cam, but i was supprised.
So far it works well for me. Made some nice shots with it.

Right now, i would also wait a few weeks more. Most likely you will get a far better phone for the same price.

Actually, i couldnt also decide between the spica and the galaxy few month ago and i made my decission on the activity based on android forums.

The i7500 was/is a bigger community than the Spica. That might change soon, but it helped me back in the days to make my decission. ;-)

You need to realise that the reason there is more threads than the Spica is that a lot of us are VERY unsatisfied with what Samsung released initially, and us users learnt our lesson the hard way not to go with Samsung again for Android handsets :p

I agree.

I only get decent pics in daylight. However, while the pics I take in darker circumstances are _bad_, they're at least recognizable (wouldn't be the case if I had no flash).

Still, the camera and extra storage to me aren't worth the premium, _unless_ we had 2.1 to play with.

Yes I should edit my post. My daylight pics with the i7500 are nice but indoor shots without the flash are blurry and with the flash the white LED washes out any colour and contrast.

Don't buy any of the existing Samsung Android phones, they are inferior and outdated hardware. The Galaxy's main problem is the lack of memory, the processor is good enough (the HTC Hero and Magic both have the same processor). Samsung will soon release a new generation of android devices and the existing ones will not be supported anymore.
My advice is to wait until the HTC Legend and Desire are released and get one of those, the Nexus One and the Motorola Milestone are also good choices. If these phones are not available in your country or they are too expensive then get the HTC Hero or the Magic.
