Sync local calendar to Google

How to I sync my local calendar on my device to Google?
I have created a google-account, and have now a local calendar and a gmail calendar on my samsung galaxy s2. But how can I transfer all the contents from the local to the gmail calendar?
Add the account to your mobile = Settings | Accounts and Sync
Once you've done this, Tap on the account you added (you should see the sync symbol on Calendar section) press the sync now button to begin synching your calendar entries to google calendar. Once done, open up google calendar with your browser to see if its transferred properly.

But this only syncs the google calendar on the phone to the google calendar on the internet. It doesn't seem like it has any effect to the other calendars (such like the local one) on the phone :(

There are ways to sync them both... (its just a little tedious). If you've upgraded to ICS, it syncs the phone calendar to google calendar... (just tested)

Anyways, if you haven't used ICS yet, you need KIES, Microsoft Outlook, and Google Sync. Tedious task of exporting and importing data. There are other better suggestions to doing this easier, but I don't know them because...

...I use a calendar app that merges both calendars to a single interface, like Business Calendar.

After many investigations, I didn't succeed to export using kies or directly.
BUT, I succeed to do it with some app: iCal Import/Export 2.2
It's possible to choose Samsung Calendar, export it to the local storage, and then switch to Google Calendar and import it.
It did it perfectly...
I'm pretty mad about Samsung for creating such problems... actually trying to stuck us with samsung forever... no thanks...
Anyway, after moving everything from Samsung to Google calendar, i canceled the Samsung calendar and "My calendar" from S Planner, and also canceled the sync of Samsung account...
Finally the Calendar works fine and syncing with my Google account

This was a big help after enduring weeks of attempts on my own and suffering hours of attitudinal warping by Verizon, Samsung, Google and other "support orgs."
Starting with my SII with 4.1.2 android trying to move to my S5, here are my suggestions and my solution.
1. It would solve the entire problem if either the app writers or Samsung popped up a message on the first 10
or so calendar entries saying local-private entries cannot be transferred to the new phone.
So make entries using a Google or another account, not the local.
2. make sure the Account is transferred to that other account (Google) before disabling the phone account.
3. Make sure if using Kies that it is downloaded & installed on your phone & computer before changing accounts.
4. Using another phone WiFi as a link to transfer many apps may show it already installed because it is recorded or installed on the download phone. This kept me from installing any of the Samsung apps like Sync on my SII.
5. when all else fails ignore the Samsung/Verizon support. They have no clue even the level 2 support teams failed.
searching the web worked yet individual phones/apps have their own problems so be active on your own or find
a friend and stay interactive here or on similar sites.
6. Here's what finally & painfully worked for me:

A. Decide what you really need. Is today and the future all you need to do you need the past
(I needed medical records from the past.)
B. I used Business Calendar https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=netgenius.bizcal
C. After BC imported all my calendar data I turned off each calendar to see what my local calendar had in that
month establishing a pattern of common categories.
D. I then turned my target destination account calendar back on with my locals & did a search for common
categories like "Basketball", Dr., Exercise, "Medical" etc.
E. starting at the earliest search item found: I did an edit and changed the Calendar account to a
shareable one (Google account for instance) & did a save.
F. then on to the next item.

It took about 2 hours for 3 years data which was less than half of the time wasted with Verizon & Samsung.
If simple logic was used to design such software, assuming items like low speed access, older devices etc.
were the normal reality then the amount of data transfered on the net etc, and the size of tech support teams needed would be drastically reduced.

Gee wouldn't it be nice if some one wrote a non-root transfer item or included it with their calendar instead of adds

Of course that comes from decades of developing and using world wide tools, teams and support orgs.

This is the best and easiest solution. Took me 2 hours to find the post and 5 minutes to solve my problem.

I have just switched from outlook to gmail and google calendar, could not work out how to export my Samsung calendar to google. I tried the ical app that you suggested but unfortunately could not get it too work :( I sync my phone with outlook via Kies so I followed these instructions which I found on the google calendar options and have successfully exported my calendar from outlook to google, worked perfectly! This is what it told me to do (bare in mind you would have to have your Samsung calendar synced to Outlook via Kies):

Open your Outlook calendar.
  1. Click Calendar.
  2. Right click on the calendar you want to export > Save as > iCalendar format.
  3. Click More Options > Date Range > Whole calendar, Detail -> Full details.
  4. Click OK > Save.
  5. Open Google Calendar.
  6. Next to Other calendars, click the drop down arrow > Import calendar.
  7. Click Choose file > the file that contains your events > Open.
  8. Select the Google Calendar to which you'd like to import your Outlook events, then click Import
Hope this helps someone else, thanks for all the suggestions :)
