According to Wireless Week, MetroPCS CFO Braxton Carter stated that while the carrier does not offer the iPhone or really want unlocked iPhone users using the device on its 3G CDMA network, it would be open to the idea of an unlocked iPhone 5 operating on its 4G LTE network.
With the major US carriers already on-board with LTE or transitioning to it, you might think that we’d be seeing a new era of inter-carrier roaming and growing interest in unlocked handsets. After all, with LTE replacing HSPA+, EV-DO, and WiMAX, it should be easier than ever to find a phone that will work on multiple carriers, right? Unfortunately, that hasn’t really transpired, and radios with incompatible frequency coverage continue to get in the way of the dream of a world where choosing the best smartphone has nothing to do with which carrier supports it. Things might be looking up in the future, and MetroPCS has expressed its interest in taking-on some LTE users coming from other carriers, specifically in regards to the next iPhone.

Nothing’s concrete, but carrier execs discussed the possible arrival of an LTE-supporting iPhone as an opportunity in which they’d be interested. That would mean users buying iPhones intended for other carriers, having them unlocked, and bringing them over to MetroPCS.

Frequency support is still a big concern, but considering that MetroPCS offers LTE service on the AWS band, the same range used for some of AT&T’s LTE, it actually sounds plausible. Sure, AT&T’s not CDMA for voice like MetroPCS, so we’ll have to wait for the details on Apple’s hardware before knowing just how practical this might be.

Having been with AT&T previously and having an I-phone 3gs, it was a neat little device, but nothing compared to my LG Esteem. Also my main issue with Apple is that there is not a port to have expand memory with micro sd card. Sorry but 8gb just is not crap these days. I work in the medical field, and my apps on my android are about 4gb, which would leave me with only 4gb for photo and music..HA..my music is 8gb..lol...

I love my Esteem..i have a 16gb sd card in it, and it works perfectly for me...Android all the way!

They have been saying that the small screen, which I believe they enlarged finally, has been the only thing keeping the iphone from true "superphone" status. I guess its definitely that now. They have planned this jump knowing that Samsung (and HTC) is putting them way too far off the smartphone map and they better get with the program.
Like now an i is as good as an A.
Not and never!

Too late. I have already spent hundreds of dollars on Android apps, hundreds of hours into familiarizing with Android apps. I may upgrade to newer Android phones or switch to another provider - as long as I get to keep my Android apps. However, I am not going to throw away hundreds of dollars and hours I had spent on my apps and switch over to iPhone or Windows Phone.

This I do agree with.

The Iphone is literally obsolete now in regards to the tech world. When new phones are pushed out every 3 months and a phone can become outdated within the year, the Iphone is WELL past that.

The Iphone 5 hasn't even came out yet and it's already outdated as far as features are concerned when compared to the quad core 4G 1.5 GHz Android phones being pushed now.

To hell with Apple and their over priced, tree hugging socialist products. Granted they broke the tech world wide open but it comes a time when someone else takes over and does things better; That's Android.

Come tax time I'm switching carriers and getting a iPhone 5 nothing wrong with metro I just want a iphone

Curious as to why you would downgrade significantly?

Dude, if your going to spend the money on that, why wouldn't you get a One-S or Galaxy S3 for cheaper and would blow the hinges off an Iphone5 or 6 or 7 or 10.

Their whole 1 phone every 2 years has left them behind. They dug a hole they didn't even realize at the time. Since then Android has become the largest and most popular smartphone platform by a long shot. Iphone is playing catch up and from the looks of it, will NEVER catch up.

I mean Google has a car that drives by itself. How can you compete with that? Hahahahaha

Not hating on you at all, I'm just curious as to your reasoning behind your thoughts. That's all ;)
