Many programs can be told to use the sdcard area ("move to media area" in Manage applications). Is there a was to move programs and/or data to the real SD card ( sdcard-ext )?

I can store mp3s, mp4s, etc. directly to the removable sd card, but I cannot discover a way to make applications use sdcard-ext.

Thanks

I don't think anybody has discovered a way to make the system move apps to the external SD. There may be a way for rooted phones, but definitely not un-rooted phones.

A lot of LTEvo owners are discovering this change and having to adjust because they weren't used to having additional "storage" area. That's where the manufacturers don't exactly explain the partitioning to the consumers as much as they really should.

Thanks, drexappeal, I had little hope that apps could be moved to the external SD card. I was hoping, however, that there would be some way to tell apps to use the external SD card for data storage.

For example, I use an app, aWallet, which stores sensitive information such as passwords in an encrypted database. When I change phones, transferring that database to the new phone is difficult. It should be as simple as transferring the external SD card.

How difficult would it be to provide an option in an app to choose the file (file location) to store data?

Unfortunately, I'm not a developer so I couldn't tell you how difficult it would be.

What I can tell you is that, if you do move the apps to SD, you can still access the internal storage and save those files to a backup hardrive (by connecting via PC). You could even copy/paste the entire internal storage area to your external SD using ASTRO file explorer on the phone.

When you change phones, all you would have to do is copy that entire backup folder with the app info, into your new phone's internal storage and you're set.
