Help Battery DRAIN!!!

Hi,
I have a rooted SGA and i have a problem of extreme battery drain..i had flashed several roms i the past and because of some problem or the other i had to change. I recently flashed back 2.3.6 DDKQ8 stock samsung firmware from sammobile. I wanted to uninstall the stock bloatware so i rooted my phone again. Then I uninstalled all the stock apps like samsung apps, maps (no i dont use maps), all share, social hub, email, gmail etc and got a hefty 90mb+ free internal storage. Then the broblem of battery drain started. I cannot go 15-20 mins on the wifi. I make sure i get the samsung inbuilt 100% notification and then unplug the charger but still it drains out in 15 mins on wifi. i tried using setcpu to slow down the processor so that i can get some more juice out of it but i still manage only 20 mins. I have set the cpu freq to 122(min) when the screen is off and with that i get idle time at about 3-4 hours max. PLZ HELP!
I am now thinking of changing my rom again and i want to go back to stock 2.2.1. Will this improve battery? Or should i flash cm 9.0 or cm 7.2 nightly? Or any other rom? Or will a kernel change be the solution, if so how do i install a kernel (probablycf root 83) but i dont know how to install. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!

You should remain on the stock firmware as it has the best battery backup, further i would suggest you do a battery callibration, since you have been changing roms so much, it is adviced that you do callibration once in a while.

Look up the callibration procedure at xda search, i hope this solves your problem. Do read the comments first, there are many procedures there, read them and decide which works better.

On the other hand, see if you can get another battery and check if your original battery is actually discharging too fast.

I have calibrated my battery quite a few times. In fact i think i have over done it(if that could be the reason).
And now im planning to flash a new rom. Is the Ice cream sunday by jusada good? i mean wrt battery backup and stuff. and i found some ios 5 port rom for the ace on youtube:

coz my phone goes from 100% charge to turn off in 15 mins continuous wifi usage. Thanks again!

That 3-4 hr backup is extremely low even for ACE, you should sort that out first.

You want battery, stay on stock based roms! Its the best you'll get with ace.
Team Cooper doing alot of work on stock roms, check their roms.
Don't even think about CM based roms if battery is your priority, they have the least battery backup comparatively.

Anyways, ICSunday is a really awesome rom, smooth, fast and beautiful.
I am an average user(very less calls, medium texts and almost nill internet) and for me it easily gives 22-24hrs without overclocking.

Can't say for ios one, never tried that, and anyways i like the android feel more than the ios.
If you want to switch to CM, go for the vo-1 version, its latest and has quite good reviews, ICSunday although pretty good but its now almost 7 months old.

You should keep an eye out for CM9 by GalaxyICS, they are gonna give a fully working ICS for ACE pretty soon.

Hmmmmm can't say about that, it could be that if the system shows 0%(according to phone indication) battery it shuts off to prevent the Li ion battery to actually discharge completely(Li batteries must never be discharged to 0), even though the battery actually has a lot of juice still remaining.

So you are saying its a battery problem as in hardware rather than anything to do with my rom installations or even calibration? Ill try the battery output with another battery..will post if the problen still persists

Well as you have said that you have already switched back to stock rom and have also been callibrating the battery regularly then the only fault seems to be in the hardware.

I am trying to hold of a new battery now and i saw some battery ads on ebay and stuff..i saw some batteries with 1500mah capacity..are these legit?
One more question: if i want to shift to stock froyo on the ace can i flash it through odin? Is it safe to downgrade through odin?

I have no idea about the batteries, you can chekout the xda ACE's hardware accesories section, there's loads about high mah batteries.

Yes, you can downgrade to froyo through Odin, its a perfectly safe way to downgrade.

Is this right:

Went to bed with 100% battery and woke up with 50% battery, no network stuff on at all, just 2g.

This is a new ace it seems the battery drains so quickly, the phone was on 50% idle with 50% of the battery drained.

If there was any service using the 2g continously during the night then 50% is actually quite good
You should turn off all network data connections, bluetooth, wifi, 3g/2g when not using them. Ace has quite an average battery life, if you want to use it for a whole day without charging, then you'll have to learn to conserve as much as possible.
Also Turn off haptic feedback wherever possible.

I did the calibration thing as trying to see if it made any difference, I charged it up t 100% as said calibratiited it and then turned my Wifi,Blutooth,3g plus set the cpu to run at 800mhz all the time and also started and played a mp3 on repeat

Oh then I went to bed, woke up this morning and the phone was at about 50%, so If I just had the 2g on that should have been maybe 5% or 10% drained ????

Anyway the instructions where to drain the battery after the calibration and that's what I AM TRYING TO Do

Will see if it works.

Battery callibration doesn't improves your battery life, its just supposed to make sure that the system is displaying the actual battery measurement rather than showing 75% when its already at full charge.

make sure you keep your data sync off even if you keep your 2g data on.
manually syncing will improve battery and also it will keep data usage under control.

don't use any battery saver apps, even according to google the apps that use the power control API's are batter killers.

make sure you don't have any apps that unnecessarily run all the time.. i use to keep the task manager widget that comes with official firmware to know if any apps are running in background.

keep 3g data off when ever not in use.

screen is the one which consumes the most juice especially while browsing or playing games, a moderate use of everything should get through the day with enough juice to make the last phone call that you do every night....

Is your signal strength ok or does it tend to vary. Coz I have found that if the signal strength goes down it badly affects the battery life as the phone has to keep pinging more often to find the signal. Also check out http://socrates0.blogspot.in/2012/01/samsung-galaxy-ace-useful-points.html

yes signal strength is also a factor of draining the battery life and its a problem will almost every phone so best thing you can do about this is by selecting the carrier which has the best signal strength in your are.

Where would I turn off Data sync or at least turn it to manual ???


As for my Signal strength it's pretty much full bars all the time, but as I have read the bars really mean nothing, I would need a app that shows the real strength, any recommendations and maybe be able to poll the results over time

Settings > Accounts and Sync > Auto Sync, uncheck auto sync and for manual sync tap the account below and select whatever you want to sync at the time.

To check you signal strength no need of a special app just goto
settings->about phone->battery usage
there you will see the signal history along with the battery usage and you will know if the phone doped signal any point of time.

I think the calibration worked I am at 10 hours battery time and battery is still 84%, that's just with 2 g on and nothing else

Am at the moment running it down to see how long it lasts.

Thanks for the sync suggestion I have two things on the list Yahoo and gmail and when ever I turned data on they would Sync and download the emails, now I will do it manually, which is not a problem :0

I also turned off background data, what baground data will not be turned off with that, it says some will still get though ???

i keep background data on just to keep gtalk and facebook messenger alive, but if you don't need it then its up to you....

I don't use gtalk and facebook messenger so I turn it off.

I just finished my battery drain and with one charge I got 2 days and 15 hours, just using a little wifi and some calls, if I only get 24 hours what would be fine with me for standby I think the battery estimation app said I had 7 and a half hours talk time, is that good ?

Recharging it now all the way up and seeing what happens with the battery, any better worse !!!

Those battery estimation apps are not reliable, their values change according to your battery consumption, if you turn on the wifi it'll drop quickly, you turn it off and again it'll show a very good number.

Tell me which calibration procedure are you using?
And what rom are you running that is giving you 2 days of battery backup with wifi?
