The Official "I got mine" thread.

Thanks for the feedback...I was starting to think it had something to do with the switching of numbers from Verizon to VM...you would've thought, however, that MAYBE someone -- in the 2+ hours I was on the phone with them -- could have SUGGESTED getting a new # rather than wait 72 hours!!?!? Calling them shortly to ask them to do this...

And guess what? The port failed. LOL.

Verizon... FUUU....

ive noticed similar issues, however whenever i do port ins from us cellular, it goes almost flawlessly every time. especially when its going to boost. i do a lot of boost activations, and the us cell to boost ports take literally under 5 minutes, not exaggerating. i notice most boost ports work quickly, but i did do a verizon one that took 2 days.

That's how mine are with Cricket. By the time I'm done making their receipt I've already got the number.

Finally got the Verizon one. Man. I'm going to really have to get ALL the info it asks on the portal for any future port ins from that company.

What a pain.

To be honest, We try to get the number by exhausting all our options first. Most customers who ask for their same number really want that number.

Most who are willing to get a new number, They let us know. They'll usually say that they'd like the number but if it's too much trouble It's okay if they get a new one.

We assume you really want your number unless you indicate otherwise. Once we start the porting process we mean to get that number for you!

I got mine 2 days ago on the 13th at the Best Buy in Cedar Park, TX (basically NW Austin). The site said they had them in stock, but no display and none on the shelves. The second I got to the phones to look for the EVO, the sales guy came up and offered his assistance. I said "No EVO yet, huh?" and he "Oh yeah, man. The Virgin EVO? Black right? Lemme check." He came back and said it's waiting for me at the register! Woot! I also snagged some Zagg Shields and came home to switch things over. I've ordered the EVO 3D dock from Amazon for it, as well.

For the curious, it's one of the Sprint branded phones, No VM livery on it at all. Speaking of said livery, I really need to find a decent boot animation, like the one for the GNex, because the default VM one is, well...... annoying beyond belief.

Besides installing some apps, I'm going to keep it stock for a while. I'm not worried about the rooting process, I'm just waiting for the devs wares to mature a bit more before taking the plunge. I will say that I'm feeling the itch, but trying to resist! :)

I haven't run any speed tests, but the 4G is pretty snappy compared to 3G. I also have Clear for internet access at home, so I kind of expected decent results.

I'm coming off of the OV like a lot of you. I've gone from Harmonia to Backside and finally Quattrimus. I almost felt bad retiring the OV, but it was time. And to any OV owners on the fence about the switch, someone back on page 3 of this thread said this:

If you're still on the OV, you HAVE to upgrade! It is a world of difference. The thing just runs great.

Seriously, as much as I loved my OV, this makes the OV feel like a toy. Everything is so much more responsive. There's more app compatibility. Really, in my opinion, this is how an Android phone should work and feel.

The only downside for me is that I really wanted a phone with NFC for Google Wallet. My choices for NFC were the Optimus Elite or get the GNex from the Play store and switch to T-Mo or Simple Mobile (and most likely double my monthly bill).

All in all, I think I made the right call!

how does the 3g compare to triumph. In san diego the only data is 3g any one have any feed back?

hopefully the 4g will make it to san diego prob not tho
It's still the same slow sprint network as far as 3G goes:D Also wimax is basically discontinued so it's not being expanded. Once VM gets a good LTE phone I'll probably switch again lol

That's the one in near lakeline mall right? I never particularly liked that store. :D As for the boot animation I completely agree. I wish it had the ics boot screen with sprint animation lol

You will love the dock, I don't want another phone that doesn't have one.
We have several good, very stable roms, including Harmonia 3 for the Evo V, no reason to wait to root and be miserable with that horrible startup sound. You would probably be amazed at how far the roms have already come. However, there is an app that can silence boot sounds, without root if I remember right. I used it on my OV.

And yes, I too think it was a great upgrade to the OV.

My 3g speedtests almost twice as fast, and response in browser is MUCH faster than with the OV due to the rendering power. It may not scream, but I will gladly take the upgrade.

I grabbed the evo 3d yesterday, already have rooted and tested every available rom relatively extensively. I was using the Samsung Vitality(admire) which is ~parallel to the OV, HUGE upgrade....phone is amazing...I have been getting those rolling eyes looks from my fiancee as ive been tinkering with it since i got it.

LOL! Yeah, that's the one! Not my favorite either, but it is the closest!

I've been keeping tabs on them and you're right. I am amazed that we have these roms so quickly. I may do it tomorrow night. I swapped days with a co-worker and tomorrow night will be long and boring. :D

I got one yesterday from a BB(should've waited until today so that I could m[ick up a moving kit from the USPS and get a BB coupon), nearby radio shacks, as usual, had none(they didn't have the Triumph either last year).

I can't believe that I missed this, when I was one of the first to get the Triumph last year, but I blame the hype of the icrap coming to VMUSA figuring that that would be their big deal of the year as they only seem to release one "good" phone per year along with a bunch of el-cheapos.

Build quality doesn't seem to be as good as the Triumph from feel, but the screen is VERY responsive and GPS is SUPER fast to lock. It's also noticeably heavier than the Triumph and has the crap peel off the back cover to access batt/uSD design(REALLY liked the slideron the Triumph). I haven't activated mine yet, as I'm going to try after my current "month" expires then try a plan switch/swap combo I guess.

It's HTC/Sprint branded, plain HTC back cover BUT has ICS 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6 along with the VM boot sequence and apps.

Got mine last friday (6/15). It has been a nice 5 days of usage.
Much thanks to everyone who have contributed to the thread on "activate issue" and various error issues.

Activation went rather smoothly. Definitely switch off your old phone. Clear your old voice mail. If encounter any error, update profile, prl.

In NYC, 4G has been amazing. 11mbps dl/1.5mbps ul is about the avg for me. The "worst" 4G speed I got was 200k, but that occurred once and was back to normal in 1 minute. Doesn't seem like 4G data is being tracked by VM. Perhaps they are still working out the system. :D So I am abusing it right now, MaxGO, HBOGO streamed all day at work.

Visual voicemail is very cool too.

EVO do have some shortcomings. Compare to OV, EVO has a weak antenna. OV seems to be able to pick up signals much much better than EVO V 4G. I can't stand the battery case, very difficult to pull off. Oh, Evo V 4G doesn't come with a headphone (ok, not really a big deal, just in case someone is not aware of it). WiMax tower hand off is not very good.

Overall, I am happy with EVO.

First phone was DoA, brought it to RadioShaq and they swapped it out no problems - considering I had been in only 3 hours earlier.

This phone is *awesome*. So fast. Call reception is good in town, but out in the boonies where I live I get basically zero reception but that's okay because no cell service does well out here.

Very pleased. Still have one or two kinks to work out but I've managed to find ways to function despite those.

Finally got mine. Bought it at Best Buy, it's Virgin branded, but I guess that's not really as much of a thing anymore since it's been out for so long. So far it seems to work perfectly, still setting it up though. I had zero problems with activation. I just took the battery out of both phones and punched in the serial then turned it on and voila. Now I have to spend all night playing with it and getting everything just how I want it.
