Hi folks!

Any idea how long the i7500 will last for video watching on a full charge?

Also what firmware are you using ?

I've been debating on whether I need to take my phone in for battery replacement or not, but I thought that I'd check here first.

What's your firmware version? This, more than anything else, seems to have a huge impact on battery life. That, and the fact that Samsung screwed up the battery readings.

I don't know about video, but I did a stopwatch experiment:
The other day I tried to deep-discharge my phone (to the point where it couldn't complete a boot), then charge it fully while off, and then I started a stopwatch (with a keep-the-screen-on function) to see how long it lasted. After about 12 hours it still said it had 2 hours to go, but that was at 2am so I stopped the experiment a bit early. I used Ultrachron and Battery Left for this.
Since then my battery life has increased, it seems.

That is an interested tactic you mention. And I've heard of others doing similar things to squeeze more life out of a battery. (i.e. full discharge followed by complete charge)

How did you 'deep-discharge' the phone ? Just leave it on and wait for it to switch itself off? Or did you leave it in 'download' mode till the display shut-off ?

Right now, I've got 'Baseband version' - I7500XXJB2

Typically on a full charge, how much battery life does the phone get ? For me, it looks to be about ... 6 - 10 hours , perhaps? Is this normal ?

6-10 hours on JB2 is extremly low.... I'm heavy user and on jb2 with sleep bug in control i get around 2 days of battery life. Afcorse thats with apn blocked while not using net...

if you're still talking video playback, that's probably pretty normal

if you're talking standby/normal usage, you've got the no-sleep bug chewing away at your battery

Actually, batteries such as these have no 'memory' and do not benefit from being cycled like this (in fact, it's more like the opposite, excessive wear).
I did it to calibrate my Battery Left app, but it didn't seem to work -- today again it reports 9% battery as an 'accurate' reading, whereas the OS suggests 53%. As such, this phone is useless because I can't rely on it unless I recharge it every 4 hours.

Well, you can use any app that requests the "Prevent phone from sleeping" privilege. I used the stop watch app, but of course anything that puts more load on the cpu should burn through the battery a lot faster. I guess just surfing the web or browsing youtube would be good (but personally, I can't stand doing that on the phone).

I can't say. What I can say is that my own crummy stats are heavily influenced by not being able to downgrade to 2G telephony, so if you can do that it should be better.

That 6 - 10 hours included only a <2 min trailer watched 4 times at most (showing off the phone).

2 days of battery life !?! I'm starting to regret my decision with this phone now... on my older Nokia E71, I could get nearly 6 days on my normal usage pattern. (I'm NOT exaggerating, for the battery life, I couldn't recommend anything else)

To clarify a bit: MY normal usage means getting 4 - 10 spam SMS's from my carrier every day and at best 2 or 3 calls per day each of <3 mins talk-time. Now, when I used wifi, the battery life, of course dropped, but then again, on THAT screen, it was a bit of punishment to use it for surfing...:(

Every 4 hours ? That's bad. :(

I think I'll downgrade my phone to II5 and experiment a bit more tonight, but more likely, I'll take it to a Samsung repair shop and have them do something about it. grr... going to the repair shop within a week of buying the phone...
-sigh-

i recently got ~ 5d 7,5h before my battery was @ 4% and i plugged it in
that was under relatively low usage, but i did have sync on all the time
i'm now @ ~ 2d 4,5h with 58% battery left
running jb2

I think I'll downgrade my phone to II5 and experiment a bit more tonight

go with ik5
