Samsung Galaxy S3 vs HTC One X

This is the decision I also have to make in a few weeks, saw the gs3 the other day in store and imo its a beautiful phone but, my misses has the gs2 and I really dont like the usability of it so I'm kinda torn between the gs3 and HTC one x. I currently have the Desire and I really like it so also wanting to stay HTC, arrrrggggghh f'kin phones.

Certainly in the case of the UK One X with a NVidia processor, it struggles to perform simple tasks and even run games that you'd expect a quad core phone to run. I was so unhappy with my One X that I swapped it in for the S3 and although it's more expensive and not as good looking, it's unbeatably smooth

I've got my upgrade this weekend, and I'm 95% certain I want the One X.

Had a play on the S3 at the weekend, and although I don't like touchwiz, I'll end up using something like Nova launcher until I root, so my main gripe with it is how light it is, almost forgot it was in my hand when I wasn't looking

Yeah, I use Apex Launcher on my One X but I prefer the Sense apps like Mail, Contacts, Browser, Dialer etc over the Stock or Samsung ones so even though I wouldn't use the TouchWiz Launcher I'd still have to use their apps (unless I installed replacements of course).

I only use stock Android messaging app, everything else is 3rd party, so realistically, I could choose either phone

Umm why would you ever drop your phone in water?

Anyway being waterproof is a nice advantage, although I don't see myself purposely dropping it in water.

I guess its good for accidents though.

GS3 looks to have the edge in hardware over the HOX, more functions more tricks, better storage, however coming from a Samsung Galaxy Note; TouchWiz is significantly inferior to Sense completely buries ICS, updates from Samsung are to say the least very slow and can be not completely optimised. I really came to the conclusion that the One X was more for me, IMHO the implementation of software is far better, and like it or loath it I want my high end phone to be differentiated from the base models, GS3 is simply an aesthetic no show, same blend, same mix, as some of the base models...

I also give durability to HTC, the GS3`s is prone to scratching and easily damages in the event of a fall, marring the physical appearance of the phone. My Gnote fell literally no more than 18" and picked up some pretty good scratches/denting of the metal surround and slight deformation of the case itself. Also dropped the HOX from about 2-1/2 feet, same flooring and without any case result, nothing no dents , no marks, no scratches.

Over all even after trying a GS3 I much prefer the experience the One X offers

Hi guys,
Well I'm due an upgrade next month from my much loved desire. The question is...what do I get? I use my phone for browsing, taking photos, listening to music, maps, apps, don't really play games. I really like the sense UI but reviews on the s3 are very good. I am a fairly simple man with simple needs.
Any good advice from people that own these phones or have used them a bit?

On a 2 year contract it's a decision not to be taken lightly!

I have just picked up the one x and I have 30 days to keep or return. I know the GS3 is coming. So come on forum, help me out. Give me some pro's and con's of the one x and the gs3. If anyone has had any time with both let me know. I really like the idea of more battery life, but not if its a matter of minutes. HELP

These two phones are so closely matched specs wise, it comes down to your preference. Benchmarks are close also, with one phone edging out the other slightly on certain tests. You won't go wrong choosing either of these phones. They are both currently top of the line. In six months they will probably be midrange phones in the market, but still performing fantastically for whoever owns them. My 2 year old single core, 512Mb RAM, 8Gb internal mem, 4.3" 480

I would run with the s3, for two reasons, namely that it has a micro SD card slot and a removable battery.

@Iamdunne: Thanks, this was a great review. Just watched it. I'm torn now... Considering replacing my HOX with a GS3, particularly because of battery life and multitasking.

Although I am happy with my tegra 3 one x , I do wonder whether it would be better with sd card slot , removable battery an amoled screen to mention 3 features of GS3

I played with the GS3 for about 30min in store today whilst returning my 1XL.

First thing I noticed is the responsiveness is so much quicker/better than the 1XL. With everything from swiping between home screens to opening/closing apps, changing settings, accessing media from the gallery, etc.

But the display is nowhere near as nice as the 1XL. The camera and video is poorer and the general look of the screens/phone is cheap and tacky.

If the 1XL had the smoothness and responsiveness of the GS3 it would be without doubt the greatest phone.

With that said I still prefer the 1XL.

I walked out of the house intending to buy the One X on day and came back with a GS3. I have a slight preference for a removable battery and expandable storage but compared to the utter niceness HTC Sense, I think TouchWiz is quite frankly pants!

For what it's worth, I don't think you can go wrong with either option.

I've had both the HTC One X on ATT for about 32 days and just got the intl SIII. In general the SIII just feels much smoother and much more responsive probably has something to do with Quad core. Battery life is a better, its prob bc its running HSPA+ vs LTE, but here where I am HSPA+ is great. The screen is better, but I like AMOLEDs.....so its personal preference.

I'm bouncing back and forth as well. I own an HTC One X AT&T and the AT&T version of the SIII.

My major points for keeping the HOX:
Build quality
Screen Its hard to describe how clean it looks...
Software updates (I complained about wireless and 1 week later there was an update...)
Camera UI is a lot more polished IMHO (burst shot button and what not)

Things I dont like about the HOX:
Photos are noisy (Indoor mostly) - I think Sammy has the better capture (Big deal for me)
Bluetooth every day device syncing is flaky
Power Button is not getting any easier/ I cant seem to get used to it (Really annoying)
No Expandable memory and only a 16 gig (which I only got 9.something gig out of for storage)

One thing I really like about the new version of the SIII is a common name and look for all carriers. I don't know how many times I had to explain to someone that this model is the same as that model but its on the different carrier so the name is different... It just feels like this will be more of a united ownership which IMHO is what the android camp needs. HTC tried but failed imo with the One series to do that.
