I am kinda new to this android world, so I will need your help guys.

1.I saw that people hacked(somehow) the HTC DREAM so it will have Multi Touch functions. Is it possible to do the same on the Galaxy?

2.I saw people installing the HTC HERO sense UI on HTC DREAM and on Magic. Is it possible to installing the sense UI on the Galaxy?

3.And if any of those doesnt work on the Galaxy, or there is no way to "hack" the Galaxy, will there be any way to do so in the future? I mean, I dont see alot of people talking about the Galaxy(not like on the magic at least) so maybe no one works on a way to "hack" it?

Thx in advance, :).

Google removed the official multitouch support but it will be back in doughnut (android 2.0).

From what I understand the hack for the dream works by finding the vendor of the screen, and then compiling the linux driver for android. The vendor that Samsung use in their phone doesnt have a linux driver available. The only match was some obscure driver which may or may not be for the chip used in the samsung. In any case no one was able to compile that driver yet.

Our best bet is to wait for samsung/google to do it in 2.0

The UI is called 'rosie'. There is an apk in the Hero rom you can extract and probably install onto the samsung. BUT Rosie also requires a bunch of frameworks which i think people call MT. The Samsung only has 192mb ram (288mb for the Hero), so it would probably leave you with very little RAM left.

The way they get around this on other HTC phones is to enable a swap file (virtual memory) on the SD card. The samsung kernel doesnt have swapping enabled so we can't do the same on the samsung.

I think samsung will eventually enable swapping as android gets bigger, but right now there isnt much we can do

The Hero, Magic etc are all HTC phones and supported over at xda-developers, which is a huge community. The Samsung galaxy isnt suported there because they ONLY support HTC phones.

There is alot of talk about the galaxy on german forums because it was released there first. You can expect english forums to have more when its more easily available. (See translated android hilfe forum)

First of all, thank you for this answers.

Second, when is the donut(2.0 version of android) is going to come out?

And is it possible to upgrade all android phones, including the galaxy, to this version?

No confirmed date on donut, but if you google you'll get some estimates.

You can expect that samsung will release a donut build within a week or two of googles release.

Even if the vendor (samsung, HTC etc) don't release a firmware for their phones its possible to add most features by making a custom rom. Its only drivers which cause an issue.

Its pretty unlikely/impossible that we won't see android updates applied to android handsets tho.

I'm looking to creating a community around that idea, got a URL that works too - Samsung Galaxy i7500 World.

Not quite sure how to get it started though...

Is that you're site?

You got the Samsung Battery size wrong in the comparison.. it should be 1500 mAh. (Its written on my battery!)

Also the AMOLED screen on the samsung is actually easier to see than the Hero one in sunlight. I think its all down to brightness really.

And the internal storage for apps... Although the Samsung has 8gb internal memory, 1gb is split for applications. That means it has 1gb for applications while the hero has 512mb.

(Obviously if you root the phones you can change that around)
