Help Data connection drops. All the time. Anyone else?

Try this people..

power down your device. Remove the simcard, be careful with the sim, (that little sticker is delicate) power back up. You'll see a notification saying no simcard. Power down.
Replace the simcard (carefully), power back up.

This is called reseating the sim.. it should help, if you install your sim incorrectly it WILL get fried... try not to do this :)

i just tried this, to no avail. still getting the 'no network connection' message...despite the fact that it shows "4GLTE" up at the top of my phone.

I had very frustrating connection issues. Somebody suggested that I get a new sd card and sim card which I did. No more issues for me.

you got BOTH a new sd card....AND a new sim card?

did you swap them both out at the same time....or did you stagger (thus wondering WHICH one of the two...if not both...were causing the problem)?

thanks.

My Maxx has always had geat service and then about a month ago I started seeing data drops and had tried all the usual things to find the problem. Finally I called Verizon to get a refurb and was taliking to their tier 2 tech support and they said I should try a new 4G SIM card first. That fixed the problem I no longer have data drops. I was told by Verizon that for some reason the 4G PRL list is not updateing automatically like it is suppossed to and that the only way to make the list update is install a new 4G SIM card since this forces the phone to reactivate. My PRL was 15109 and now is 15142

did they send you a new sim card, or did you have to go in to a verizon store to get it?

and....presuming this will fix mine also....do we need to continually swap out SIM cards in the future?

thanks.

I was having an issue recently where it acted like I had no sim card and data was dropping. Its working fine now after I removed the sim card. And my PRL is still 15109.

It really is odd these types of issues are popping up all of a sudden now. I remember someone posted whenever there's a new phone release the network goes haywire. Maybe Verizon is prepping for the GS3?

"removed" the sim, and replaced the same one back in....or, replaced with a new one?

thanks.

For my Maxx I went to the store to get the new SIM card. My wife has chosen to order a new one from customer service for her RAZR since she is having the same problem. It's not as much of a priority for her since she has a solid Wi-Fi connection both at home and her office. Her SIM card is supposed to arrive today from Verizon.

I hope they fix this issue soon because it is really inconvenient to have to keep changing 4G SIM cards . My old Bionic was able to update it's PRL on it's own without needing a new SIM card so I know it's possible for the phones to self update.

This has got to be a Verizon issue. Mine and my brothers phone both started having issues at the same time. We both always had very strong signals. Then all of sudden, the once solid blue 4GLTE, Arrows and bars have turned into a rave of ever changing symbols and flashes of off and on again white and blue. I have tried using a cache cleaner app, Moto connect settings reset app, clearing my browser cache, history and cookies, soft reboot, hard reboot and clearing my cache through recovery. Still nothing. My last resort was to do a FDR. My brother told me he did one two days ago. He still has the crap signal. Maybe this all has to do with ICS and they are changing things up(radio wise) and it is affecting us all until we get the OTA update. Who knows. All I know, it isn't our phones. It is Verizon.

Question for those with problems. In settings, under date and time, do you have it set to automatic? That may be the problem. If time drifts from what the time is on the tower you are using, you will lose data connection. I have read on other forums that there is a bug with using lapdock and/or webtop which is messing things up since the last upgrade. Solutions have been to turn off automatic if you have it checked, reboot, and then turn it back on to sync properly. Also if you have it off to begin with, toggle on and reboot.

My PRL is 52686. You can update it with *22899.

Edit: I have read on other threads to do this with all the signal strength problems with my previous GNex. I did it and it did update the PRL but did not fix the problem. My current PRL is what came with my refurb RMaxx. The post down below warns not to do this. I don't know. Call your carrier.

just did this (unchecked "Automatic") and voila: "4GLTE" turned 'blue' at the top, and the data connection is flying!

dunno how long it's gonna last, but at least for these fleeting moments, it's working!

Is anyone using go launcher? i seam to have traced it to starting when i installed golauncher, i am uninstalling and seeing if that helps
I've used nothing but stock launcher on my Maxx. I've had intermittent data issues since we got them. My wife has rarely had issues until the last week or so - hers has all the sudden become virtually unusable at times. She's also running stock launcher.

I tried one of the tips above last night on both of our phones. So far today I haven't noticed any data drops, but I haven't inquired with my wife on her luck today. I'm not going to jinx us by telling which advice I followed. If we hold steady for a couple days, I'll reply. :D

well....THAT didn't last long.

"lost connection" has now returned....after about 15 mins of connectivity.

i guess i'll head over to verizon and try a new sim card.

This is from Verizon:

Answers to FAQs

Those are instructions for 3G phones. Again, you do not update PRL for 4G phones using those instructions. The sim card does that automatically. You risk causing problems on your 4G sim card by trying to update PRL manually. Call verizon and they will tell you not to do that. Google it too and you find out people have fried their sim cards.

Yeah. This seems to be a problem new to me over the last week or two. I noticed the trend where it's showing 4GLte and 2 or more bars, but that stuff turns white. Sometimes it flicks back to blue and it might work for a minute or not at all before it flicks back to white and no data seems to move.

I live in Seattle and it was having data issues all around town. Now I'm visiting my dad near Chicago and it is happening all over this town too. I've been trying to carefully track down how to fix this problem and it appears that rebooting the phone is the fastest way to get data back and so far, nothing else works and rebooting restores data for "a while" (10 minutes to 2 hours.) I'm pretty sure that the 20 times this has happened in the last 4 days, various things have seemed to work but maybe it was just a coincidence.

I'm wondering why everyone is obsessed that it's a bad SIM card. It seems like some people are on their 4th phone or on their 7th SIM card and still have this issue.

Not sure what to do with this issue, otherwise I'm happy with the features of the phone.

yes, and why has this 'suddenly' happened to all of us (at the same time)?

btw, this started for me up in the Oakland area last week, but it's still prevalent now that i'm back here in So Cal.

Brought my phone down to the verizon store today as this has continued to be an issue. tried the 3 step sim card reset and that did nothing. rep claimed to not only did he never hear of this problem before but he couldn't help me and gave me the toll free number to call. helpful as usual. funny though I did pull up this page and show him this thread as a point of reference

i just spoke with verizon a moment ago. the Rep admitted to connectivity problems with this phone, and likewise admitted that the sim card replacement 'fix' is temporary, at best.

he's sending me a new Maxx (i was only 13 days in), so hopefully the new one will not have these problems.
