hi folks i am trying to find a decent speaker system to play my music through my phone like a home sound system, looking at amazon there is a ton of stuff for iphones but not much at all for samsung products, with such a great phone and storage for music this phone has i am really surprised there isnt many accesories to make full use of it, has anyone come across anything decent that i am looking for?

Give it some time and I expect that we'll see a number of accessories like the various iPod/iPhone speaker docks. The Galaxy S3 is proving to be a popular handset and has USB OTG (On the go) that will allow streaming of music from the USB port like a line out (just like the iPhone/iPod has had for years).

Bluetooth audio is pretty good, but line outs are better. So I suspect in a month or two, we'll be seeing these docks for the GS3. Hopefully this becomes an Android standard, too.

Have you considered bluetooth or airplay speakers?

Yeah I'll be sticking with Airplay. I have two Apple Airport Express repeaters that have audio outs and a I have an Airport Extreme Base Station that powers my network. This is better than anything they have out for Android at the moment and it connects to anything I want, so I use surround sound systems in the rooms that they're in. I know Apple isn't popular here but nobody has anything that holds a candle considering I can use the Remote For iTunes app and my iOS friends can add songs to the playlist with their free app over my wifi and it scrobbles to last.fm on my laptop. Also this way I can still have my phone on my person to fiddle with while music is playing. /nerd rant

So using that method I would need to buy an airport express and a pair of speakers for every room I want to stream music to is that right? Is it compatible with routers other than the airport extreme base station? Not willing to give up my Asus as the range is like nothing I've ever seen before.

Not sure if you knew by the way but some Android apps support AirPlay, just not the built in music player unfortunately!

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have to look around and play with those, though I prefer the music to be coming from my computer as opposed to my phone.

Yes you would need speakers or just an airplay enabled speaker, which they are starting to sell now. If you want to avoid using the base station you can set up a separate network just with the expresses for music streaming but you'll have to switch back and forth when you want to control your music. The Extreme Base Station is great though as it has (I think it's called) dual band wifi, so you get lots of distance and wall penetration simultaneously. I don't have a giant house (split foyer) but it's at full strength whereever I go, even in the yard.
