Change LED for Email / Gmail / SMS (Text)

I had this exact same issue. Always getting emails on my phone and most of them being useless. Found myself having to check my phone too often when the green LED was flashing. Not knowing if the email was important or not.

I created Labelert which sets off different color LEDs based on what label is applied to your email message.

I use google voice so all my text messages and voice mails get sent to my email also. I made it so Gmail labeled those messages for me and now my phone blinks Red when they arrive.

You can also just change the default LED color for gmail if you want.

Sorry for the self promotion but this should solve your issue.

OMG.. man, that thing just screwed my phone. I bought it, opened it and my phone went crazy.. in an endless loop it keep saying the "droid" ring tone over and over and over and at the same time, it vibrated endlessly AND flashed the green LED with the "Green message" in the menu bar AND NOTHING ELSE is in the menu bar anymore!!! it took over the entire phone AND then caused it to reboot.. I then rebooted and it all happened again!! it took me a few minutes to be able to get past it and get to the market to uninstall and get a refund.. man, WTF happened here???

For Gmail, I use this. Free, with Donate option. Quite a few settings options. Especially like that you can test your settings choices.

Gmail Notifier
Generated with Listables! on the Android Market. For more info see Lost Packet Software |

yep, just tried it.. FREE, no labels setup..

but 1 tip.. be sure to turn off any notifications in actual Gmail app on your phone, if not, you will get 2 ringtones, 2 menu icons, and the default color.

Here is what I did:

Green LED . Google Voice - do nothing it's already green.

Blue LED . SMS (Handscent) - use Handscent app and change LED settings to Blue:

Orange LED . Gmail - use Gmail Notifier app to change LED notification colors.

Purple LED . Email - I use K-9 Email app for my work email accts and the default color is purple.

Red LED . Missed Call app or Bugless Beast version 8 ROM.

I found this to work very well.

Best wishes,
-T

Sorry to hear that happened. We are trying to replicate the issue after talking with you. We are still not able to replicate the problem you had but are still looking into it. Just want people to know we have around 30 users so far and no one has seen this issue. Sorry again for your inconvenience and I will get back to you when we find out what happened. Thanks!

I'd like to use this app but the comments are filled with Droid owners who say the app works inconsistently, the settings don't take permanently. Makes sense since the app would probably have to be running in the background to work, which I wouldn't want anyhow. Anyone having this experience?

I would try Missed Call LED by a dev named stuckenberg

It JUST does a led for a missed call, but it works on froyo, and it will take precedence over the stock green led for a missed call. It has mediocre reviews but I think people just want the app to do more than was intended.

P.S I think when you search of it in the market you need to search for "Erik's missed call LED"
