I attempted to update my phone using LG's god-awful mobile update tool, and it crashed while the software update was @ 4%. Here's my word of advice: DON'T USE IT.

Luckily enough for me, when I disconnected my phone's battery while it was stuck in emergency mode, turns out my phone wasn't bricked and rebooted into V20a. I then decided to try using the KDZ update tool with the ROM Karendar gave the link out to, and lo and behold the phone updates perfectly to V20b.

Update notes that may be useful to those who were having similar problems:

-I selected "DIAG" under the "PhoneMode" drop-down menu in KDZ prior to launching the software update. This was due to the fact that the phone *was not* in emergency mode any longer.
-I shutdown my phone before launching KDZ, and began updating while the phone was showing that image of the battery to indicate it was charging. The phone would not be detected if it was booted up.
-All my apps, settings and files were kept after the update. The only things that were lost were all the mods, such as the advanced power menu, overclocking capabilities, and that fancy CRT TV sleep animation.
-I was using a custom recovery as well as Jiilik's v008 rom and did not encounter any issues while updating with them installed.

I'm very surprised LG actually fixed most of the outstanding issues with this phone even though Telus doesn't even sell it anymore. The only issue I have with the update right now is that they still have not re-built the drivers for the brightness sensor to work with Android 2.3.

Happy (And hopefully lucky) updating!

Wow I can't believe LG came out with an update. I had given up hope months ago. Thanks to those like karender who continued to write and push both LG and Telus to fix problems.

But the big question is does it work? I have learned my lesson and will stay with v10d until I get all the reports on the new update.

Does the nuance voice control still work after update to v20b?

Has anybody tried to update from v10d to v20b?

We're all surprised. I'm just surprised they kept almost on schedule. ;) haha.

I just did adaptation with Nuance and it worked flawlessly. English and french. Tried multiple voice commands after adaptation, works. Wifi has been on and streaming for 4 hours large amounts of data, stable as a rock...

I wouldn't update a v10d phone to v20b until we get more feedback for the two bugs below:

Didn't test bluetooth because that was never an issue for me. Cannot test call feature, because it rarely happened to me...

Post your impressions here! I'll try and get CRT off done again tomorrow... Extended menu if noone else does it I'll redo... As for Jiilik's ROM/kernel, I'll get in touch with him see if he wants to recompile the kernel once source is released because I'm lazy :D If he doesn't answer I'll do it.

Looks like LG finally did something good...

Question for whoever wants to answer:

Bluetooth issue, was it only on stock or Jiilik's? Because Deodexing the Bluetooth apk's gives me an error. So I'm guessing that might be the source... Might have to do a v20b hybrid ROM.

currently building 2 ROM's:

One with Jiilik's old kernel (For testing purposes)
One with stock kernel but with basic features like root, app2SD, etc.

Jiilik's old kernel version might have the wifi black screen issue still, but has overclocking and Adaptive Voltage Scaling support. Stock doesn't have OC possibility.

Grrrrrr... I swore this phone would never get me frustrated again but here I am...

after i retired my shine i was cleaning up my computer and uninstalled the lg united mobile drivers, now when i try to install them again so I can update, it either hangs on (Extracting files) or it will complete but the install wizard won't start... I've tried it on 2 separate computers (one of which is brand new).. and the exact same thing happens..

so needless to say I haven't been able to update yet

Bluetooth issue was with Stock. Happened with both rooted and unrooted stock kernel until I figured out the fix (posted in a different thread).

I would like to know if anyone else has the connect/disconnect issues before I brave upgrading again! Please post your results.

Thanks.

KC

Thanks for the answer. Won't go down that avenue... Can't test further until tomorrow, but I'll have a v20B ROM up soon. All you'll need if you're on V20A and have clockwork recov or Amon-Ra is to flash the ROM over previous version.

Grrrrr. I updated my phone to the 2.3.3 version - using the LG updater tool. Everything went well. Or so I thought...I have now found two issues

1) My calendar (google) will not sync - I only see events that I added after updating.

2) My wifi connection keeps dropping - even tho I have it set to never disconnect even when sleeping.

Has anyone else encountered these issues and found a resolution for them?

Thanks kindly.

Hi,

Calendar works fine, have you tried seeing if your updates are still in your google calendar? Did you save your entries in the google calendar or the LG PC sync calendar?

Wifi works fine here... No issues. Can't say what happened. Did you try deleting your wifi network and reconfiguring it?

Otherwise, factory reset might fix things (again). ;) Factory reset is your best friend for weird issues...

Calendar: All my stuff is still in my calendar on google, my outlook is syncing with it nicely still and also my calendar on my ipod - so I don't think my calendar per se is the issue, but more the sync function. For now I will need to still use my ipod for calendar functionality.

Wifi: seems to have resolved after I deleted the network and added it back again.

Perhaps this weekend I will try another factory reset to see if that clears up the calendar issue. I'll let you know if that works!

Thanks Karendar!!!

Has anybody tried updating from unrooted V10D directly to V20B??

If so, any problems?

Thanks.

Haven't done it yet, as I don't want to mess up my v10D phone until I'm sure v20B is perfectly stable... But I'm pretty sure it'll go smoothly. Only issues you might have would be with wifi connection issues, with bluetooth connection issues... Nothing a factory reset won't fix.

I'm having sync issues with Gmail on wifi though.

Just confirmed, Jiilik's V20A kernel doesn't work with wifi, works with everything else... Meaning that they did modify kernel source with the new release. I'll have to wait until we get the kernel source before compiling a new kernel with OC/AVS and Ext4...

Also having issues getting CRT off working, for some reason it's not taking.

***EDIT***

CRT off is fixed. Still working on some stability issues with the ROM though... Now Root is not taking. ;)

I'm sorry but I'm confused how to use this KDZ file. Do you download the file and then install it on your PC and then connect the LG Shine Plus to the computer by way of USB as you would if updating with LG PC Suite IV? I'm also running Jiilik's V008 ROM and would like to give this a try but definitely don't want to screw it up. Any further clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

The KDZ is the full update which LG Update uses... If you go in the "All things root" forum, there's a thread called "How to restore your bricked Shine Plus" which explains what application to use with the KDZ file. The app is the KDZ update tool. You run the app, select the downloaded KDZ file in the app, plug in your phone, select "CDMA" and then "Emergency" and click update at the bottom... See thread here:

http://androidforums.com/shine-all-...proof-guide-restoring-bricked-shine-plus.html

This is a way of bypassing the LG update tool which messes up more often than not.

I have the KDZ installed on my PC, so I select CDMA and V20B_00.kdz file from your previous post and I should be in bussiness. Also I found this very good step-by-step guide which may help others like myself who are new to this [HOWTO][PICTURE GUIDE]Update your firmware using KDZ Updater - xda-developers. Much thanks to you.

I launched KDZ App and when I clicked on READ PHONE INFORMATION it failed on MOD UpTestEX MFC Applicaation has stopped working Close Program. Any idea as to what may be causing the failure?

Sorry my bad, I did not have Phone Mode set to Emergency. I reran again with it set to Emergency this time and was successful. Android Version 2.3.3 Kernel Version 2.6.35.7-perf+ vinod.ramani@si-rd10-bld168# Build #GRI40 Software Version LG-C710h-V20b. I had reverted back to stock ROM prior to updating.

Thanks again for all your help.

Glad you got it working for you. I'll be releasing a custom ROM soon enough... But I have to wait for the source drop from LG before having overclocking built in...
