To The Mods, can I please get this stickied, and tagged with appropriate things I may have missed?

Do you have the LG Connect, and have an issue with your wireless connection "looping" or constantly disconnecting, and reconnecting? Well if you do, then I have a solution, and the reason behind it. After spending nearly 4 hours on the phone with LG and metro's highest tiers of tech support in a conference call we finally figured out the reason, and how to temporarily fix it until the software issue is resolved.

What's happening?
That is something that I would rather not explain in great detail, but the gist of it is that Metro didn't pay for thorough compatibility testing at the LG Development Center, and for that reason, they expect us to spend more money (see later parts to understand what I mean by that.)

What's the technical reason?
Well, LG refused to (literally) give me an exact cause of it - I guess they're afraid of someone fixing it before they do - kinda like I did with DUN on the LG Rumor 2 For sprint HERE Which will cause a massive amount of hatred for their developers; and a possible change in things (Sprint disabled DUN altogether because of my guide to get it working off of their Network...it happens :p )

But, the short version of what they told me is that the software wasn't "developed fully." and that because of that there are certain brands/models that just "won't work.". They KNOW that this phone has issues with "N" and DRAFT networks, but they don't care, because metro didn't pay them enough to give a shit when they requested branding for this phone.

SO...

What can I do to fix this?
Well, honestly, a lot, but not much at the same time:
1. You can go buy a standard "G" router, and set it to access point mode (refer to google on how to do that with specific models you have.)
2. You can replace your current router with a standard "G"
3. Fight metro like a mother****er, and get a different phone...
These are really your only options.

What brand should I buy?
I went to Walmart today after taking a look in the back of my local metro store, and noticing that they had a netgear (piece of shit) and it worked just fine.
I purchased a series of routers, G, N-Draft, N300, N600, and N750 in all brands (yeah, I have money to test shit like that - besides it's Walmart, I can return what I don't need :p )

here's what I found out:

With MY specific phone Linksys didn't work...at ALL... Nor did Belkin - However, netgear worked fine on standard "G" ONLY!...
Here's the screwed up part: The manager at the store closest to me has a linksys router, and her connect works fine on her WRT54GS "G" Mode Linksys...

So in short, and closing...

If you are having the wifi loop issue with your LG connect, then DEFINITELY try netgear "G" mode routers first unless you can't get ahold of one, in which case Try LG; but it may not work.
As for belkin, I tried 6 different models, speeds, and network types, and NONE of them worked

Good luck to you, and I apologize for Metro's shitty service affecting all of our wallets.

If you remove root via LG update, all system apps "bloatware" you previously removed will be replaced, however by removing root manually they will remain gone. Check forums on how to remove root manually, I believe it is a very simple process, though before doing this wait for some more possible explanations because I highly doubt the root is the cause of this wifi error.. I occasionally have to reset my wifi also.. though very rarely and only when my phone screen has been off for more than an hour..

This will eat more battery and I doubt it will fix the issue but worth the shot, go to settings, wireless & networks, WI-FI settings, Click the menu key on your connect, then Advanced, and turn your wifi sleep policy to never.. shot in the dark good luck.

just tried that and it still shut itself off by the time i could verify the setting stuck and hit home to glance at my network status...this is really putting me in a state of disdain becase i am sitting at home wasting my 4g :(

also does anyone know if the lg update is safe for metro?

The update is specifically from LG for the LG Connect. Its safe, DOWNSIDE. it removes Root and the possibility to tether wifi "I think". UPSIDE, battery drain caused by 4g fixed and people are reporting no longer overheating.

The reason that I ask if it's safe for metro is because I had the admire before this, and samsung released an update that bricked metro phones; so while I understand the intended simplicity in your argument, I'm afraid that you're attempting to make me comfortable with it isn't really going to help me much :p

That said, I'll be looking for other things, and see if I can find out how to fix this, and why it's caused, when and if I do, I'll have a new thread ready for it :D

May not help but since it wasn't mentioned I figure I would ask. Do you broadcast your SSID? I've seen "hiding" it cause drops with some wireless devices (including the og Droid I switched from when leaving Verizon). Also I'm sure you did, but did you remove the EasyWifi junk from Metro?

You are pretty thorough so that's all I really have to add.

Okay, just an update on this: I used the LG Modbile updater, and updated the phone.
Upon rebooting after update I still had the WiFi issue with no root on the phone, so I decided to re-root, and see if that would solve it - it didn't.
I also tried switching my routers out again both while rooted, and not; and that's done nothing either.
So I'm concluding that short of buying another router (which I HIGHLY doubt it's an issue with what brand makes them) the best thing I can think of is that the phones firmware or hardware is just buggy.
I just bought this phone yesterday, and it's kind of sad to think that I may have to return it after I got everything set up on it.
IF I decide to return, and replace, I will update with the new one, and whether it has this issue.

Yo Peeps!

I have the LG Connect 4G, and a Belkin N-150 router at home. My phone was lopping on my home router, but had a stable connection on a stray NETGEAR router.

after getting thoroughly mindf**ked trying to solve wifi looping with my home network (it works fine in my lab and at starbucks too!), I stumbled upon a similar issue for the Galaxy S and its fix

(link in next post due to newbie restrictions)

I changed the Lease Time in my router LAN settings to 1/2 hour and my wifi is working great! hasnt dropped a connection ONCE! watched an hour-long vid on youtube in HQ without a single instance of bufffering/lag!!!

I'm not a techie so I dont know why/how it works, but it does! (for me at least!). I'd request the admins to look into this and find out if this solved the looping problem for everyone

Peace!

Ok, I'm trying to make sure I understand everything correctly. I'm not a noob at all but I have had brain cancer/surgery & sometimes things just don't click right in my brain. So, I bought my connect 2 weeks ago, it was ZV8 model. The next day I got a notice like a text that their was a software update for my phone, did I want to install? Yes I did. That put me at ZVA. My phone has always had a problem with overheating & a crapass battery life (a new one is ordered) so that update didn't help those issues with my phone.
Second, we just had internet installed at the house again. AT&T Uverse I haven't had any problems with my phone & wifi issues. Now here is where I got confused, are y'all saying if I root then I will start having issues? I don't even have to manually start that stupid metro easy wifi like I did with my admire before I rooted it. It automatically connects. So if there is a design flaw shouldn't everyone have problems? Or you have to have a certain modem? I want to root in the next few days, but not if I can't have stable wifi

Sorry if I'm not catching on to the obvious, some days are like that

I do not think that rooting will give you issues. i just didn't notice mine until i had. furthermore the 2wire routers that att used to have...not sure about anymore...were kickass and i doubt you would have issues.
the reason that this issue is so complex is because its a pure software issue. metro didn't pay lg to quality test the code for the wifi connection hardwares compatability. thusly we all have different issues with different hardware. what may work for some may not for others. the manager at my local store had no issues with belkin whereas i did. her tech guy had no issues with linksys whereas i did. it is something where you are going to either flash a custom rom with more stabilized code, or just try everything that's been outlined and see what works. hell you may continue to be issue free.

To outline it simply we all have the same software and possibly the same hardware in our phones. the software that controls the phones wifi is buggy though and causes random issues.
