How bad is the throttling on this phone? I had an Optimus C on Cricket and once they throttled the data, I couldn't even watch YouTube videos without it pausing every ten seconds. Not only that, but a 60 MB file would take an hour or even two hours to load.

This phone has like twice the power of that phone so does it make a difference?

Don't think it makes a difference on network speeds. At least it's still usable for internet. Networks like t mobile are so slow after they throttle you that web pages won't load and the Market won't even work. On Cricket the only time I really notice is on streaming video or downloading things. Pandora even still works.

IMHO, this phone rocks but on the cricket network, it sux. i had to download a datamanager app cuz within 2 weeks of a new month, i hit 1 GB of data. i love the phone but when they are throttled down.. man are they.. dont bother streaming anything from that point on.

No...no difference no matter what kind of phone you have. Once you hit that 1 GB threshold, BAM, Cricket puts the brakes on!

It should be funny to see these people pay $500 for the iPhone and use their 1 GB within the first week lol. I really hope they don't sell a bunch of them to the point it slows Crickets 3G down from heavy traffic. It already seems slower than it used to be from all of the Androids they have been selling.

First the iPhone plan 2.5gb and second, if you have the Mercury you better watch your data really close. I've been throttled twice and Cricket tech is clueless about data usage! However, they just added you data usage to your mycricket by and it's pretty close to accurate. I've used about 500mb since the 1st but according to tech support I've used 0mb on their 3g network. I laughed at the guy and they don't support their own program "network Mgr " on the Mercury. If you get throttled, you have $300 smart phone and only the browser will get out on their network. It sucks!!

Oh, I get throttled every month lol, but the iPhone is getting 2.5 GB? How much are they going to charge for that? This is the first time I've heard that.

Yeah... Read on another forum that Cricket plans on doing this for the iphone. Also, you will be able to pay for more gigs (up to 2g, I think) thru their website by the EOM.
I've been throttled a couple of times but that was due to lack of WiFi.

ha.. i get throttled within the 1st week with just normal use.. no youtube or streaming... Crickets got the "fair data use" policy on there website advising how much 5GB would be in data form.. why 5GB when they only allow 1GB.....they need to put 1GB into perspective..

I only notice it when trying to view YouTube videos our on downloads but then again i do have such a weak 3g signal where i live so not sure if my speed is a throttling anyways

Same here, I really only notice when streaming or downloading, internet still works fine, just a little slower. I think that 5 GB thing is from their wireless internet mi-fi plans. Its been on there forever. When I first got my Ascend, you couldn't find anything about the 1 GB limit anywhere on their site. At least they are more open about it now, but I still hear them advertising "unlimited data" on their commercials all the time with no mention of the 1 GB, and it drives me crazy. I really don't think its fair if the iPhoneys are getting 2.5 GB. I hope they at least have to pay more. If Sprint ever gets 4G in my area I'll probably leave Cricket anyway.

iPhones coming out on 06/22 w/2.5 data.... i wouldnt switch from my mercury.. its got the same camera & bigger screen than the iPhone.... & with my fingures.. i need as big as screen as i can...

on the cricket users forum there was someone who posted that all new android activations will have the same data plan as the iphone so you will be able to use up to 2.5gb before throttling. he also stated that users still on the 1gb per month will be able to receive the same the only thing is you have to make a request for it. the person that posted this says they work at a cricket store but still i think you should find out if thats true or not before you purchase such an expensive device just for more data before throttle. i think it is something worth looking into maybe ask someone at a corporate store.

i found this app on the market that helps improve data speeds and wouldnt you know it actually works. im also running a stock rom replacement so im not sure if this will install the same using the stock mercury rom. in my attachments you can see screenshots of the app itself and the settings i uses as well as the speed test results (top 4 results are with app bottom 4 without)
