[Verizon] Switched to BAMF, having a few issues

1.) I've always had some struggles with switching from Wi-fi to 3/4G networks, but I feel it's much worse in BAMF. I'll leave my house, walk down the street, notice I don't have internet, go to the quick settings in my notification pull-down bar, switch off wi-fi and turn on both mobile data and 4G toggles. Often it will take a good 2-3 minutes to get any response even as I toggle things on and off to try and make it work. A few times, I've resorted to restarting the phone. This is really the only thing I dislike about this phone.

2.) I LOVE using light flow to manage notifications. I know instantly at a glance whether my notification is a gmail, SMS, work email, missed call, voicemail, etc. all by the color of the LED. I've had some issues with light flow on BAMF and I'm not sure if it's something in the BAMF options or framework that's interfering or not. Often I'll get a green or white flashing LED for notifications even though they are specifically set to be a different color and not flash, but instead cycle through all notification colors as appropriate. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Let me know if you need more detail.

I've searched a lot for the ideal ROM for me and still feel like I haven't found it. I need reliable wifi handoff to mobile networks, stable performance, and decent battery life. I don't need a crazy customized experience; my only real requirements are toggles in the pull down notification bar, an added search button on the navigation bar, and the ability for minor kernal tweaks. I use widget locker and nova launcher, so other UI tweaks are excessive to me.

Running BAMF 1.25 (or whatever is newest as of a couple weeks ago)
LeanKernal 3.7
4.0.4 radios that I downloaded about a month ago using the link in the stickied thread up top

Please let me know if you have any suggestions for me to increase reliability and battery life. Happy to supply more information. Thanks for helping a noob out.

Which 4.0.4 radios? The newest ones? There were two versions. FC04/FC05 are the newest

Lightflow works fine with me on BAMF. Did you install lightflow from a TiBu backup or fresh from the market?

Have you gave Redemption Rom a try? It's pretty bone stock as far as customizations go but it runs really well.

Also the Roms themselves have little to do with radio performance. Everyone's mileage varies but usually it's a combo of the Rom paired with which radios work best for you. Also BAMF is not built from the 4.0.4 build that leaked from VZW. It's built from 4.0.4 source code which is not the same thing.

I and many others have noticed that the newest radios work best when used with the actual full build they were pulled from.

I'm hoping BAMF and others update their Roms soon to base them off of the Official OTA from VZW.

Appreciate your help. I just downloaded the updated 4.0.4 radios and am implementing them now.

I believe I have tried both ways of installing light flow; both from TiBU and the play store but I'll blow it out and start from scratch again just to be sure. I have been restoring the settings back up instead of recreating the actual notifications within lightflow manually for each install. Again, I'll try that from scratch as well.

I know Redemption well from my days with the incredible. Does it allow for a power widget in the pull down notification menu and a search button in the nav bar? I think it was those two features that drove me to root in the first place. If not, is there a solid alternative for both? Also, is Redemption built on the official OTA? If I start on one that is not built on that now, then an update comes out, do I have to (or should I) totally wipe the phone and start from scratch with the new version? Maybe I'm going about it the wrong way, but it takes a few hours to go from scratch to totally personalized the way I like it. Use TiBU mostly (just for app downloads, not data). All in app data, such as sync options and accounts are updated manually. It's the way I've done it for 2 years, might be a more efficient process nowadays.

Thanks again for the help.

Also LightFlow was recently updated pretty heavily, so maybe that had something to do with it using data from the old one with the new one...? ???

Redemption Rom v1.3 AOSP 4.0.4 UPDATE April 18th - [VZW] Galaxy Nexus Development - RootzWiki

there is the link for redemption rom master thread at RW. I think he did cook in the pulldown widget on the last build. I'm not sure about the search button. I think a lot of people use Nova Launcher and it gives you that option i believe.

As far as i know i think Liquid is the only one that may have said they updated their baseline from the OTA but i could be wrong on that as i don't really keep up with that Rom much. I mainly keep up with BAMF and RR. I haven't even ever tried AOKP and that is one crazy popular rom.

Still no luck with light flow. Reinstalled from the market, re-input my notifications manually and they still are not working right. Almost all are set to Always On and clear mode is Screen On or App Entered. I check the pulldown clear option as well. Any suggestions?

I'll give redemption a try today. I checked the nova launcher settings and could not find an option to modify the nav bar and add the search button. This is actually pretty important to me, I love having quick access to search in any app. Can anyone confirm that nova has this feature or, if not, suggest a way to manipulate the nav bar without built in ROM support?

I flashed the new radios and it made a noticeable difference. Thank you again for that suggestion.

And here I thought I was the only was that was having this issue with only having white flashing LED using Lightflow on BAMF. I wasn't sure which app specifically but thought somehow a combination of BAMF, Lightflow, and SMS Pro. I'm trying AOKP with the new radios, haven't flashed them yet, and see if that changes anything.

I've only ever used the stock messenger as well and light flow was a mess for me on bamf. Switched over to redemption and liquid and it worked perfectly again. On liquid for the time being while I figure out if there is a way to get pull down power widget and nav bar search button on redemption. Unfortunately, even with the new official radios, liquid is having bad wifi/data hand off issues. This is getting frustrating.

Perhaps try BAMF with Franco M4. That setup works for me when others did not. We seem to have similar experiences so maybe that would work for you too?

As the guy who started this thread, don't worry about going off topic. My original question had a lot of aspects to it anyway and everything you guys have said has been immensely helpful. Great find on Power Control Plus, by the way.

Liquid is working better for me now in terms of wifi/data hand-off, so I'm hesitant to head back over to BAMF, though I would like to see if Franco M4 fixes the issue with light flow. Between the two ROMs (feel free to toss Redemption and AOKP into the comparison as well), how would you rate battery life and stability? I use my phone in a business setting, need constant access to email through Good for Enterprise, and cannot have stability issues (was on a business trip and expected to navigate, but the ROM I had at the time wouldn't allow GPS to function... was not a good day). I need a daily driver that puts battery life and stability above all else. Any thoughts on this? Thank you to everyone so far for all of the great feedback.

I love the idea of using redemption now that you showed me that power widget, but still can't get used to the idea of not having a search icon on the nav bar. That is kind of a deal breaker for me.

You mentioned earlier that Nova may have that functionality, but I could not find it. Does anyone know of a way to modify the nav bar without ROM-specific setting and modifications?

you could try this.

Putting the Search Button Back on the Galaxy Nexus

just do a backup before applying the mod in case something goes crazy. There are multiple mods to put the search button on there.
