Alternatives to Samsung TecTiles!

What exactly are these tags for?

NFC tags. They work with apps like NFC Task Manager. Allow you to pre-program tasks that your phone will initiate when you swipe your phone over the tag.

For example: I have one at my work desk, that mutes my phone, I swipe it when I am leaving to go to a meeting. I can swipe it when I get back and it unmutes my phone.

Other examples:

Put one in the car to enable GPS, Bluetooth and start navigation.

By the bed to put phone in silent mode, disable auto sync.

By the door to disable wifi.

Love them :D

That is actually pretty cool. Gotta think of ways to use this but wow, I did not know about this feature.

How did I skip this feature when going through all the videos?! That is awesome

So they cost around 1.5 a tag? This is very cool. Doubt I will use it but definitely getting some to just mess with

I have never heard of such a thing and I find this very cool! I will have to research to learn a little more about it but in the meantime maybe someone can tell me. Do you assign the tasks to each tag via your phone?

Edit: Looks like several more responses came in while I was typing this. Thanks!

You can, just need to buy a cheap app for

I actually found the US links in that one article to be outdated. So I found this XDA thread on the topic:

[APP] 6/12 NFC Task Launcher - 3.6.1 Released - xda-developers

He is the author of the app and lists this as a good listing to get tags: Purchase NFC Tags - JWK Software - NFC Based Mobile Apps

And the app is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jwsoft.nfcactionlauncher

And matttye, I've changed the thread title. It'll be clear in a little while why I did. But thank you for bringing up the alternatives :)

A few questions on this
1. what sort of size tag do I need when buying generic ones. I need big enough 1 without paying for the 'overkill'
2. can 1 tag change multiple settings or would i need more than 1
3. If the second point is possible can the NFC task launcher that jerofld linked to, change multiple settings.

I'm getting a bit excited and obsessive about these tags but don't want to waste my cash.

Also, does anyone know when the official TecTiles are being launched in the UK as I can't even download the samsung app as it says 'USA and Canada only' when I go to google play store?

Thanks

1. NTAG203 is plenty big enough and they're the same price as ultralight tags. They also have slightly greater range, making it easier to scan them. If you're in the UK you can get ten of them for
