I have about 6,000+ text messages on my phone that won't delete.. every time I try to delete them the phone will just freeze up. I've tried using an application to try and delete them but it was very time consuming as well as deleting one by one. I'm wondering if there is any other solutions to help resolve my issue and I'm also wondering if any of you other Eris users are experiencing this problem or not..

Thanks.

My guess is that it's freezing up because it's trying to delete so many at once.

My advice... go sit in front of the tv for an hour and start deleting them one by one or in groups.

There is a thread in here someplace that talks about the same problem and possible solutions. Try searching for "text messages". The only quick method of deletion that I can think of is a factory reset, but I doubt you want to do that.

I would also like to point out, in case you are new to forum life, that it is considered a little rude to bump your own thread after 3 minutes without a reply. This is a community, not a help desk.

well, my personal experience.. this is what i did because i had alot of texts to delete..

before going to sleep, i went and put my screen to timeout never.. plugged it in, and then went to delete the largest text message thread.. and i left it alone. when i woke up it was gone. i used to get frustrated deleting so many, but then i learned to get rid of them before they get out of hand. hope i help.

Couple things. I delete all my texts at the end of the day, because I know if they add up too far, it takes a long time....some proactive thinking may help this. Also, if you bump your own thread after 3 minutes, I'm thinking that is indicative of not having patience. Maybe the phone is taking a normal amount of time (we all experience that) and you want it to happen faster.

All in all, your Eris doesn't suck.

Or just go to settings -> manage applications -> Messages -> Delete Data

and that should clear all your texts I think.

No, it doesn't.

Simply highlight everything and click delete. Just let your phone sit there. It'll go through a few force close options, just choose "wait" and let it do its thing. After a while, they will be gone.

I had about 2,000 to delete once and it took about 15-20 minutes of a frozen screen, but in the end, it got them all.

I usually clear every 400 or so now.
