Bluetooth Handset SMS forwarding?

Hey guys, new here. Just got my Samsung Galaxy Player 4.2, and I'm trying to hook it up to my cell phone(not a smartphone). Since the GP has bluetooth, I'm able to connect it to my cell phone to make and receive calls, which is super neat. However, most of the communicating I do on the phone is through text message. My goal is to be able to have texts sent to my cell phone forwarded to my GP via bluetooth(I'd rather use bluetooth than Wi-Fi because I'd be able to leave it on all the time and it'd consume less of the battery). Is there anything I'd be able to do to solve my dilemma? I've tried Google Voice, and the service seems shaky at best, not to mention it needs a steady Wi-Fi connection to work. If there are any apps I'd be able to download or files I'd need to modify or anything like that, I'd really appreciate your guys' help. Thanks in advance. :)

I don't know how to answer your question, but I have one for you :) How did you get your SGP to make phone calls? And if by any chance you do figure out how to text, please let me know. I've been trying to set up a wifi hotspot on my samsung prevail and it shows it's broadcasting, but the SGP doesn't show it within range, even when they are sitting side by side. I'd really like to be able to use this to not only send and receive text, but allow my son to access the internet via wifi on my phone when we are traveling.
Thanks....

What model is the GP? I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that only the second-generation Players are able to do the call thing; that is, the 4.2 and 5.0 versions. All you have to do is go into your bluetooth settings on the phone and the Player, make one of them discoverable, and tell the other to search for a connection. Once they're connected, you'll need to import your contact information, however, and from there once a call is made to the cell phone it'll show up on the Player. In order to do this, however, you'll need a constant bluetooth connection. The Player is just acting as a handset, sort of like a dummy phone. I'm trying to figure out how to achieve the same end with SMS messages; however, I'm using a standard cell phone, not a smart phone.
