Root Do not Factory Reset your Rooted Phone

Didn't know my phone was rooted when I bought it from a friend, performed a factory reset from the Privacy menu not knowing I shouldn't have, and now I'm stuck in the thunderrc system recovery. I'm supposed to be sending the phone in after warrantying the phone and receiving a replacement. Replacement showed up today, so I have a week or so to fix this problem.

While the steps seem simple enough, the link for the Xionia v1.2518.4 recovery is broken. The only links I can find in the All Things Root sticky are also broken (unless I'm looking in the wrong place). Can anyone help?

And afterwards, what can I do to ensure Virgin Mobile can't deny my warranty because the phone was rooted? Will there be any evidence once the system is recovered? I know VM is big on the whole Anti-rooting platform.
If you have a Novatek screen (early versions) you need the Xionia recovery v1.2518.4. If you have the Hitachi screen (later versions) you need the Xionia recovery v1.2518.6. If you have the Hitachi screen and you try to use the v1.2518.4 it will leave you with a black screen in the recovery menu.
Both of these can be found in the All Things Root Guide in the Recovery section. Go to the bottom of the recovery section and look in the last two links.

Alright, thanks. Those were definitely not the links I was trying to use, so soon as I'm at a computer, I'll give it a go. How can I tell which screen I have, though?

Finally at a computer, and the links at those locations are also broken. Mediafire claims "Invalid or Deleted File." Is there any other place to find the zip I need?
All the links to the Xionia v1.2518.4 are broke. Try using the v1.2518.6.img it worked. I think what where going to have to do is root your phone again. We will have to use shell commands thru ADB on the PC. Usually if you factory reset a rooted phone you loose root and the custom recovery. What OS version is the phone. 2.2.1 or 2.2.2
Let me know if you have the LG drivers for the V, and have ADB established in the PC's system path.

What recovery do you have installed. All ClockworkMod recovery's and it's modified variations use the physical camera button on the side to make selections. Xionia recovery uses either the home button or the menu buton. If you select the wrong one and it cause's the screen to go blank, hit it again and then use the other button.

There are only three possible buttons you can use ^to make a selection.

Story is that my sister has a LG optimus v (as do i) but hers was on stock whereas mine was rooted since January. She had some bugs (text messaging and calling just failing on open) so I told her I'd just root it and flash CM7 on it for her and it'd fix the problems and help with things like battery life. Here are the series of events that transpire.

>Problems arise. She calls tech support, they have her try to troubleshoot it through resetting the phone things to where MIN and MEID or whatever are changed to 1111111111. She does this, but doesn't set it back to the numbers. (I was unaware of this).

>I root and flash it just fine, but it still won't make calls and it will not send texts or receive calls. Just asks if I'd like to make a toll free call.

>Confused, I restored and tried unrooting through Gingerbreak by pressing the un-root button. Still doesn't work.

>I'm like wtf so I do some digging and find out that since it's trying to call from that number, it's obviously wrong. I then get a call to go pick up my brother from work, so I leave the phone with my sister and my dad to call VM and ask them what the numbers are so that they can be returned to normal and it would be functional again. I restored the phone back to the backup from before because I was convinced it was the root that went wrong and not the number, so that means it was booting into her previous thing. Bugs were gone - messaging and phone apps were not shutting down upon opening.

>They get the numbers, put them back in, phone still doesn't work. This is done while I'm gone. I get home and instead of just taking the phone, I let him continue on with the phone call. Of course, they tell him to do a factory reset. NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE.

>They reset it.

>I try to restore it, goes into recovery reboot loop.

>After some serious googling, find this: http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-a...ml#post3263770

>At this point I try downloading the .zip file and putting it on the SD card (Mind you, the computer will not read it through the phone despite trying to turn on USB sharing. I have to use a separate phone to get it on the SD card in the first place).

>Try go to install from .zip, just keep getting that the installation has failed. I tried putting the .img within the .zip, as well without. Neither work, same error. This is where I'm stuck.

What do I do? Currently I'm downloading the SDK for Android, hoping I can get the adb shell somehow so I can install it through the computer but my hopes are not high.

I feel terrible because I essentially bricked my sister's phone which she paid for herself.

Could be a bad download. Download AVF ( Android File Verifier).
When you have found zip from within the app, long press the zip and select the first option. The MD5 sum should match the one given at the Developers site.
If not it's a bad download. Go to MacDonald's or someplace with free WiFi and download the zip. Check MD5 sum before trying to install.

THE XIONIA RECOVERY MUST REMAIN IN IT'S ZIPPED FORM. DO NOT EXTRACT! Put this on the root of the SD card (not in any folder, just in the same place/directory/level all the folders are stored in).

Hi Android guys,

I have a Optimus V and I did the factory reset. After performing the reset i did try to flash it using Clockwork, but I hosed it.

When I start the phone (pressing Dwn arrow, home, pwr or not) the sytems says:

Android System recovery
Do not pull out the battery
Formatting Data
Formatting Cache
Factory Reset
Rebooting

Then the Virgin Mobile screen comes up and sits.

My pc cannot see the phone so I cannot connet to it, or CW.

any ideas

So the instructions say to download Xionia recovery.zip and put it on your SD Card and then install the zip from recovery. The problem is that the Xionia recovery is two files, flash_image.zip and xionia_cwma_12518.6.img. How do you install it from CWM recovery when it wants a single zip? What am I missing?
