Root Is this Samsung Prevail recoverable? Need Drivers for SPH M820

Hello everyone, can I ask a quick question about a Samsung phone? I cannot get Windows to recognize the phone when I plug it in. It says "USB Device Not Recognized" and I cannot find a driver online to get it to see the phone. It belongs to my nephew, he said it had been rooted, and he accepted an over-the-air update from BoostMobile and now its pretty hosed up. Not a cell phone expert by any means, but here is pretty much where it sits at the moment.

-- When I plug it into a Windows machine (tried 3 or 4) it says "USB Device Not Recognized"

-- You do get the green battery charging screen.

--The phone won't turn completely on though, when you press the power button it gives you the Samsung Prevail screen...

-- Then it stops at the BoostMobile Splash Screen.

-- I can hold Volume-up, Power On and Home and get into the recovery console.

There are 4 options on the recovery:
****Reboot System Now: Works, it will restart the process.

****Apply sdcard:update.zip: I get e:can't mount /dev/block/mmblk() over and over and it goes back to the options.

****Wipe data/factory reset: Works, acts like its resetting but same thing after.

****Wipe cache partition: Works too, but it doesn't seem to do anything either, same thing after I run it.

Again, I am by no means an expert on cell phones, but do you guys think its a goner? Sure hope not. I think if I could get a computer to recognize it as a USB device I could make some progress, but I cannot find a driver anywhere to make it work. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

:)

Also are you putting it into downloading mode? (hold vol down + cam + power)

If you put it into dl mode, and let windows search for the drivers, they should install automatically
(if the above link doesn't work)

Dl mode will say "Downloading..." on the screen In yellow, just to clarify

The phone is recoverable. Same thing happend to me last week, and it took me a week to figure out how to fix it. You need Odin and the gb-rt-cwm5-kk1-a2sd package. I tried many different images before I found this on on the forum, and it worked. This was very frustrating, took me hours and hours. But yes, if you do it right, the phone is recoverable.

I have the boost prevail m580 and still with samsung drivers installed it will not detect usb but will charge. Any help or ideas? I'm installing Kies but not sure how that's going to help...

After downloading the drivers they still need to be "installed" But I'm sure you know that. But use a different USB cable. Plenty of times I have seen people with a cable that will charge but wont link the phone to the computer. Also you have USB debugging enabled on the phones settings right?
