Ok, I just got the card reader and the app for paypal here. I have to warp rooted the app will start, I can login, I plug in the card reader, it says it's connected, but then when I try to swipe a card, nothing happens... If I manually type in the number or "scan" the card it works fine and will charge the card... Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure how many other people have this, but paypal support just doesn't seem to want to help I guess....

I haven't tried to swipe a card yet...I only have a couple times a year where I actually need to swipe the card. I'll give it a try in a short while, and see if I can get anything to work.

I use the Square Card Reader and app for taking payments. You can link any financial account to it and they send you the little square card reader that plugs into your headphone jack for free. You can even charge the surcharge to yourself or to the customer. Really cheap fees too. My softball team always "forgets" their $40 each season dues so I make them pay me thru Square when they use that excuse LOL. A $1.10 on $40 (2.75% fee) is nothing for convenience. They prefer it now haha

Paypal here is essentially the same thing...but links directly to your paypal account, allowing quicker access to your funds via the Paypal Debit card. Same Fees apply, everything is the same as square, except you can get the money instantly with paypal and the debit card. I use square, and I have paypal here...Neither need rooted phones. But Paypal here isn't supported by Paypal on our phone yet...and you can't get it directly with the play store. you have to find the APK and install that way.

I also use square with no problems, IF anyone is looking to start to utilize this app/device, definitely do not waste any money purchasing one in a retail store, you can go to the website and they send you the device for free..

Back to the issue at hand, I have tried to swipe a card tonight myself, and have not had any luck with it working, and I used both the paypal Here Reader, and the Square Reader...neither worked with Paypal Here. I've never had an issue with Square, but I'm wondering if since we have to get the APK somewhere if we're missing something as far as the reading ability goes.

Does your headset jack function normally when you use a headset? I only bring this up because my very first Warp had a defective jack...sound was very muffled, if the jack isnt fully reading the device that could possibly cause read issues.

It can also be the fact that it's not a completely tight fit. I have like 4 square readers, some work, some don't work...the ones that fit in nice and tight work every time.

Edit: Couple quick suggestions, First, make sure your volume on the headphones is all the way up *First thing asked when you call paypal* If you still have issues, call paypal, and have them send you a new reader...they're still in the exclusive phase, so they want to make everyone happy right now LOL

I looked at it in the store, and read the fine print stating 6-12 weeks or something to get the money back, so I went online, filled out the app, and got my device in less than a week. You just love picking apart what I say dontcha? ;p

EDIT: Maybe this is something new, but when I got mine, they werent putting money on your account once activated, they were mailing a reimbursement. (Got it before i even had my warp..)

I have had square for a year, and everything I've read is that they automatically deposit it into your account. it may not be instant, but I couldn't tell you as I got mine through the mail from square.

I signed up for it the day it came out, and it took me 2 months to get the invite email. but then, as you know, it doesn't show as being able to be installed on our phone because it's "Incompatible"

Wow, been a long time since I signed up...I don't ever remember providing my social for square when I signed up. But you sure do. Though it sure beats dealing with the Merchant Accounts and Payment Gateways!

No doubt I will always recommend PayPal. One other option to consider for merchant account or those just starting out is PayPal. Regarding ikobo, I think one thing to check on there is when you get your money from any transactions - it used to be only once a month. And I hope it may not be an issue for you.

Not sure about this but my guess about Square wanting our social security number would be so that they can report our sales to the feds and send us all 1099 statements at the end of the year.

I think it may be to prevent skimming. Without your social they couldn't prove who swiped the card.

Wow so my tapatalk wasn't telling me when I had new replies and thought it was weird and got on here and seen all these my bad guys. I do also have square and it'sok but Ilike the paypal here because it does go straight into my paypal account and I also have the debit card so I have instant access. I did try using the square reader as well and it didn't work, they both say card reader connected when I connect it but it won't read. I had to find the apk online because I couldn't download it from the play store. My headphone jack is fine, works good with my headphones and like I said it acknowledges it when plugged in just doesn't read. I know it's not the reader either because I used a friends ipod touch downloaded the app and logged into my account and did like a $1.00 just to see if it would work, and it worked flawlessly. So I'm not sure what's going on. Yeah I signed up for the reader probably a month or 2 ago and I just got it a week or 2 ago. If I manually type in the card number and do it that way it works just fine but then you're paying 3.4% instead of the 2.7%+$0.15 per trans. If someone could figure out why this isn't working that would be great. Paypal still hasn't got back to me about the issue. I know the phone doesn't have to be rooted to use either,my phone is rooted so that's why I posted it here....

They just posted a list yesterday that i saw on their FB page...the list was like 20 phones or something. I've given them an earful about that too. well, not really an earful, but I've strongly voiced my opinion.

Yeah I'm about to do the same I have emailed with no response and I don't want to have to get an ipod touch just to use the scanner. I mean the percentage difference isn't that big of a deal but when customers see you typing in their card number it's makes them skeptical about vs if you were to scan and have them sign.
