Anyone try to complain and get a Samsung Galaxy III?

I wonder if this is worth a shot. :D

They'll probably upgrade you if you're eligible, but give you one outright, I wouldn't expect it. ;)

Having an SGS2 though, I must say the SGS3 is quite nice, but only if you don't already own an SGS2... The upgrade difference isn't really worth it IMHO.

From SHine plus to SGS3 though, Wow. Massive upgrade.

Very doubtful especially after all this time. Barney were you the one who got a free extra shine plus during the warranty replacement? I exchanged mine a few times and tried to angle for a free one six months ago. At one point, they billed me $200 for one of my exchanges because they said I waited two weeks to send back the bad refurbished phone for another one. I had to complain to customer loyalty to get the charge reversed.

I am still on V10d. My phone will not upgrade using the LG update tool and I am still holding off on trying KDZ updater.

Any issues with update from V10d to V20B? How is the battery usage? The lack of posts seems encouraging (ie no complaints or maybe alot of shine plus owners have just moved on to new phones?)

V20B is quite promising as of now to be honest... I'm surprised. I've added a few performance tweaks to it and it flies! Just need to OC the phone for it to be even better

Uploading a new version of my custom ROM as we speak.

Nope wasn't me. I got the original, sucked it up and kept the first release of the update.

I talked with a store rep and the guy said, if you have an old plan (mine is a Talk 25 from the 90's, per-second billing), you will have to buy the phone retail, outright if you want to keep it. So you will pay your $800 or whatever the phone costs.

They will not offer you the $159 deal, and sign on for 3 years. Bastards eh? They want you to give up the per-second billing, and the old plan. If that's the case, time to move to a competitor....

Not true. I have an old per second billing plan that goes back more than 10 years. You can still renew these old plans as a 3 year plan and get the same free or discounted phone offered in the new plans (depending on the model). You need to call Telus and ask for a loyalty/retentions rep. Sometimes they will also throw in some extras (eg, extra minutes, text messaging, etc).

Another thing to consider is to change your plan. If you are a long time telus customer, you could ask for the "Saskatchewan talk 25 plan" (just go to the Telus site and click saskatchewan and compare their talk 25 to the rest of Canada) which has the most included features of all the talk 25 plans across canada. The nice thing about the newer plans is that you do not have to pay the system access fee which is chargeable under the old plans.

The only problem is that if you want to get the discount for a premium smart phone, you will need to include a data plan to bump your overall monthly payments to over $50. If you are unwilling to get an addictive expensive data plan, you will have to limit your self to the lesser smart phones which do not require the data plan or you must pay full price for the premium smart phones.

The Telus rep said that's how it "was", however in the future they'll want you to either sign on to a new plan or leave. He went on to say the per-second billing just costs too much for them to maintain.

If that's the case, it's time to go to another provider. It's not like Telus' plans are anything special.

All companies are getting rid of per-second billing... Telus/Koodo has a massive thread about it, Fido/Rogers too... Solo/Virgin/Bell also.

Their excuse is pure nonsense, it doesn't cost them jack shit more. All it does is rob people of their airtime by draining their minute plans faster if they make quick calls. All this does is 2 things: Old customers who have their old plans will keep their old plans as long as possible and when forced out of them by unloyal tactics, they'll switch to another company. Otherwise people will shop around for other companies right away and buy out their contracts or their "balance". Either way, they don't lose anything but customers. And you're not really going to get per-second billing anywhere else anyway.

Only plans which are useful are unlimited calling plans now.
