Help Custom Text Message When Declining Calls

On the Photon I was to make a custom text message when I declined calls. So far I have had to use the ones offered or retype my text message. I haven't been able to figure out how to do this with the EvoLte.

When on vacation I devote my time to my family and answer calls only from family and friends. I like to decline calls without have the office or businesses think I am just ignoring them by letting them know that I am on vacation and what date I will return. It saved a lot of time and headaches when I could prepare a reply text when declining calls.

It is commendable that you separate your family time from business distractions.

Hmmmm. The older version of HTC Sense had this ability streamlined. The Evo 3D (Sense 3.0) had a setting under call options for configuring a default message when declining calls. This has changed slightly with Sense 4.0 though. The ability is still there, except like you are saying, there is no area I can find to edit the defaults the system displays. Unless I'm missing something.
Re-typing a message every time does seem rather silly.

Sorry this solution is somewhat round about:
The best idea I can think of would be to add or edit one of the 'Quick Text' options and keep it on hand for after you decline a call.

To add or edit a Quick Text, you will want to go into the messages application. Then select an existing message thread and act as though you are going to send a message. Make sure you tap the 'Add text' box and bring up the keyboard. Then hit Menu at the top and select Quick Text. Then hit menu again and then you can add/edit/delete a Quick Text. You can then set up a canned message to use.

Sorry, I'm unsure if it will appear in the list right after you decline a call and select the 'send message' icon prompt. If it does not, you could try and edit 2 of the default reply messages that appear in the Quick Text list too. Try and edit the quick text's "In a meeting" or "I will call you later". The system may be utilizing these 2 messages locations from the Quick Text list?

Bummer, Sorry the work around didn't add it to the decline list. However, the Quick Text option should still prevent you from having to type the same message everytime.

After you decline a call, manually go into:
People -> call history tab -> find the contact/number that just called -> tap the little picture/silhouette icon next to the number.
It will show their contact card and on there is a shortcut to send them a message.
Tap it and it will compose a message to that contact/number -> then hit menu -> quick text -> find your pre-drafted response and send it out.

It will require just a few extra screen taps to locate the contact/number and get into messages then send the quick text, however it is still a solution.
It is sort of the 'manual' way of doing a task that should be more or less 'automatic'. I can understand your frustration.

This seems like a great opportunity to Contact HTC and let them know that they left a small piece out of the software. We should have a way to edit the responses we have available to send to declined callers.
I suspect they want it to be part of their software, but it was forgotten or left out for some reason?
Hit them up and see what they have to say.

(You could always check the market for a 3rd party application solution too if you wanted. Always an option)

Fwiw when I deny a call there it asks what I want to do... Hit txt and at the bottom of the list there is an empty bar where you can put a custom reply.. I guess what your saying is if you want a custom txt you need to go to that menu and type it in every time right?

I'm just trying to make it simple so that I don't have to retype a text. When declining a call and selecting text you are given some options to use as a text message and also to type one in. I want to create a custom message that will pop up with the other text options when declining a call.

It was a great feature on the Photon which I used to notify co-workers, clients, businesses etc. that I was spending family time until a certain date. It helped others to understand that I wasn't ignoring them on purpose.

go to custom dialer -> options -> setting -> other settings -> quick responses -> edit quick responses..
u can edit ur fav custom message in the first making it easier when u reject a call.

I miss this option too. I'm on the phone a lot for work and it was nice to be able to ignore a call..and send a message saying I'm on another call and will call back soon. Customers we're impressed by that too lol

i use handcent as my message app.. and there is options to have custom messages. all you do is long press.. select quick text.. and there is a list of responses..

I was able to edit the messages that come up when receiving a call by going into the phone application, Settings, Quick responses, and then selecting one of the messages to edit. It would be nice to add another message, but it seems we're limited to four possible responses.

I just realized you were asking the question in relation to a specific phone. I'm running Android 4.1.1 on a Galaxy Nexus so maybe my solution will only be helpful to users like me. Sorry.

Took me a long time to figure it out because it was easier on older EVO's I've had. Hope this helps!!
