Combining VM with another prepaid cell

Anyone combining this with another service like Verizon prepaid to essentially get roaming? I'm not a customer yet, want to, but one thing I'm concerned with is not having roaming. Why not just buy a cheap phone from Verizon and get cell coverage where Sprint doesn't have it? Biggest issue I see is that every service has minutes that expire, which is a joke because you've paid for them.

However, if you are always in the same area and can remember to buy more minutes when you go on a trip it could be OK. Thoughts? Without it I'd be worried about things like auto breakdowns.

I am on boost but I also have a cheap tracfone. The tracfone has decent phone coverage so it is a good backup to have

For Tracfone: $20 every 90 days to keep it active. Minutes carry over from each purchase of minutes. I have so many minutes carry over that it never runs out because I don't use it all the time. Also, I have lifetime double minutes.

Yeah, I was just looking at this, a few more bucks a month for this is still way cheaper than a contract through Verizon. It seems like a reasonable workaround.

Do you have to keep it active or can you just sit on those lifetime minutes forever? That would be ideal but I suspect you've got to keep it active. Kind of a joke but that is what cell companies do.

Also, it looks like it is $20 for 90 days, where do you see $10? Thanks.

I don't know what that $5.99 bs is for. I don't pay / use it

From what I can tell the $5.99 charge is to keep the account active without buying more minutes. I'd look into that if I were you.

Beyond that, I found a S2 online for $400 and I'm so tempted to sign up with T-Mobile's $50 value plan......ARGH, DECISIONS!

The problem with T-Mobile's $50 plan is that it only comes with 200 MB of data before they throttle you. They do have the online/WalMart $30 plan that gives you 5GB of data before they throttle but it only gets 100 minutes, though T-Mobile does allow you to do Internet calls over data that don't count against your minutes.

I'm not aware of a $50 plan that comes with 2GB and, looking at T-Mobile's plans, the $50 plan only gets 100MB before being throttled. It is the $60 plan that comes with 2GB.

I was thinking of getting an S2 and if you bring your own phone the value plan (not prepaid) is $50 if you don't need unlimited minutes.

Hate decisions. The $50 isn't a big deal vs $40+ for the combination of two phones but their network is only mediocre around here.

I recently convinced my dad to switch our whole family to Virgin Mobile from Verizon. As a result, we had 3 of the same feature phone left over from Verizon, and I think for $100 you can activate it with 6 hours of talk time. We recently took a trip to Yellowstone, and as expected none of our 4 Virgin phones had any sort of signal, but that Verizon one worked in some parts of the par.

So the answer is, yes and no. You can't link that Verizon phone to your Virgin phone for signal, but you can have a $100/year insurance policy on your signal. Mind you, that is a $100 up front cost if you have a phone that supports it, with text messages costing $0.25 each. Best of luck.
