NexBeast 0.9 Release

I built this ROM because I was having some issues with CyanogenMod 5.0.5 (mainly, no MMS), but I didn't want to give up the look and feel of NexTheme, which I really liked.

Before I begin, I must give credit where it is due (everyone but me, I take no credit. I'm just an enthusiast, not a developer).

Pete - For the excellent, bugless base ROM
Koush - For porting over CyanogenMod 5.0.5 to the Droid
Cyanogen - For building CyanogenMod
manup456 - For the AWESOME NexTheme 2.0
ChevyNo1 - For the overclock kernel
AdamZ - For the overclock kernel
gl0be - Whose Desire theme helped me a lot
haxzamatic - For his port of NexTheme to Koush's CM5
jr33 - For his Metamorph of NexTheme
arctu - For the AMAZING HelixLauncher2

Sorry if I missed anyone. All your work is appreciated!

* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/

well...I won't laugh at you. But please don't blame me :D

Now, for the good stuff:

Includes:

-Bugless Beast 0.9 entirely themed w/ NexTheme 2.0
-Advanced 2.0.1 Launcher w/ Auto-Rotate (5 Icons per Row)
-HelixLauncher2 w/ up to 7 screens and 3D app tray
-ChevyNo1's overclock kernel w/ 125/250/550/800/1000 slots
-All 2.1 Apps
-Extra Nexus Live Wallpapers (color customizable)
-Modified Turtle Water LWP
-Google Goggles
-HQ Video Tweak
-Youtube HQ Tweak
-Ringtone Delay Tweak
-Wireless Tether
-Spare Parts
-Pete's scripts
-Etc...

Installation Instructions (for use w/ SPRecovery ONLY!)

This is a nandroid backup w/ only System and Boot partitions enabled. If you're using an ESE53 ROM, you should be able to install over it and keep your data. I'm not making any promises.

Also, as I've put Facebook, Maps, Wireless Tether, Google Goggles and Spare Parts into /system, if you've manually installed them and they're on your /data, you need to uninstall them first before you flash, or there will be conflicts.

The best method of installing would be to do a wipe (DATA, CACHE, SYSTEM) and then nandroid recover.

Please let me know if you update over an ESE53 ROM and it works (state which version please :D)

Suggestions

-Do a PRL update *22899 or *228 option 2
-SetCPU (available in market)
-Android Terminal Emulator (free in market, this name, not the other one)
-You can flash any kernel compatible w/ ESE53
-Change transitions to 'fast' using Spare Parts
-Before you decide on which launcher to make default, go into the other one and delete everything off the desktop
-If you're using HelixLauncher2, set the number of screens to 5 and turn off auto-rotate
-HTC IME here
-Read the bug list below to solve script and busybox problems
-Report your bugs/success here!

Delete the Launcher you are not using
Code:
su
mountsys
cd /system/app

Then...

For 2.0.1 Launcher:
Code:
rm Launcher.apk

For HelixLauncher2:
Code:
rm Launcher2.apk

BUGS

Sorry guys, this is a known bug w/ BB 0.9, but the enablescripts isn't working right. You'll need to run the following commands in Terminal Emulator or through adb:

Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock4 /system
chmod 777 /system/xbin/enablescripts
enablescripts

Then, to fix busybox (you'll get an error if you try Titanium Backup) type:

Code:
fixbusybox

Also, whenever an app requests su permissions for the first time, it might just hang. Just go back to home and relaunch the app and it should be all fine.

Also, I've been getting the 50% without signal under cell standby, however, with very low cell standby battery usage. I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't NexTheme that's causing this bug, since with CM 5.0.5, I did not have this issue until I installed NexTheme on that! Anyways, just pop your phone into airplane mode for 30 seconds and turn it back off to fix. Also, let me know if you don't have this issue at all.

Haha, I like the way you think!

I actually drew from the Desire theme for my white notification text and clock :D

Thank JRummy! lol I put his flavor of CM 5.0.5 on my phone and read that the base of his theme was the Desire theme. I never tried the desire theme on it's own with an ESE53 build...I think the pink, purple, green bubble background turned me off to it...one of those things that just sticks in your head. Anyway, I'm running this Themed CM and I really enjoy it. I don't know what's his and what isn't, but the widgets are all themed nicely and matching. I have to say that the best framework IMO is the one used in the CM HexFusion Theme. It's always nice when people take the best of everything and put it together...I'd be down to try it if you get something together!

Heh, maybe for a special edition UBR :D

That red'll stand out quite a bit, and I'm not good enough at photoediting to make it greyish.

Anyways, a quick progress report. I'm almost done. All the system apps are themed and ready. Just seeing if I can add some additional perks (themed HTC_IME, Spare Parts, customizable nexus LWP, etc)

If anyone's interested in testing, I think it'll be ready within the hour.

It was meant as a bit of a joke...but not the concept...I'd like to see a launcher "tab" (or whatever the little fugly square is called) that isn't a square or that stupid android guy :)

Side-note: Man, I don't care about MMS but I was having all kinds of laggy issues with the LWP's on CM 5.0.5 and I was bummed. I disabled them finally (I just didn't really think about it) and BAM! My phone is all kinds of fast and responsive...no more FC's...Those LWP's suck IMO! Your comment about a custom version just spawned that...Have you seen the same drain on your phone when running those?

Anyway, I'm off to bed for my 4 hours of sleep (been that way since I got my phone...in November! lol But I'll try this tomorrow on a BB v0.9 that I got stored away...just waiting for a nice new theme! :)

looks nice.. so what parts from Koush/Cyanogen did you use?

This is mostly Bugless Beast, but I've taken the 2.0.1 launcher w/ 5 apps per row from CM, as well as made v0.5 of HelixLauncher2 a system app (for some reason, 0.5 seems to be more stable than the version available in the market).

There's also a few tweaks to the live wallpapers from CM (such as customizable Nexus Live and a different water one).

But my whole purpose was to try to emulate the look of NexTheme (or in this case, completely replicate), but with a BB base, which should result in better battery life and less bugs (weird standby numbers, MMS broken, etc)

So far, I'm actually very pleased with this!

Cool! Let me know what you think Neil. Also, I made a little change to the installation instructions. I just thought of it this morning:

Though I still believe:

Though I still believe:

Agree 100% - A full wipe always helps and at least if you do have issues they are not confounded by previous installs. Fab, have you played with gScript for repetitive operations? I have set up shortcuts for tweaks, recovery flashes (to go back and forth from Clockwork - SB) and it has been making my life easier. Just ran into it today.
