Hello All, I currently have a UK "un-rooted" G1, i have just received an OTA and im not sure whether im ahead of the game or behind; The build number of the update is CRC37 still on firmware 1.5...IF anyone can shed some light on this it would be great, as i can't see any functionality uopgrades.ThanksSam

I work for T-Mobile UK Tech Support. Google haven't told us anything about an update, although I did get it this morning myself. If they haven't told us anything, then it is most likely a software/security patch.

If it is a major update then they let us know 1 -2 weeks in advance so we know what the update contains. If I do hear anything I will come back and update you here.

Yea, I know exactly what you mean. Everytime they mention a new update or feature that will be coming out for Android they always only mention the My Touch or The Hero. I sure as shit can't afford 500 bucks for a new phone for the cool updates, (like apple does with the iphone). But I really hope when they say this is coming to android devices that the G1 is included in that. For instance I read a thread the other day about Flash player on the android and all they mentioned was that the Hero already has it and the my touch will be getting it, or they said android phones. Now does that include the G1 or not? I mean that video of the guy using flash at that conference has been out for like 6 months now so we should at least get that. I just hope it's not a money making scheme to make everyone go out and buy a new phone. I've bought so many already in the past year or two. I'm going to sit back and see what they do too it until right after x-mas. If nothing really cool comes of it and other antroid phones do have it I'll break down and buy a new one. But all I'm really Interested in is having Flash and one or two other things and I'll be happy for life with this phone.

Hi all,

I think this update was to fix the SMS hack that someone found where a hacker can access and control your phone by sending malicious SMS messages.
Text message hackers 'could hijack every iPhone' | Metro.co.uk

The issue was originally found on an iPhone and was discovered shortly afterwards that Android and Windows Mobile were vulnerable aswell.

I am only assuming that's what the update is for as it came out about a week after this issue was made public.

Regards

The US or UK holidays is actually a Googles Calendar feature. If you log into Google and view your calendar, you should see "Other Calendars" which has a drop down list of calendars you can choose from including country holidays.

Once that has been selected on Google Calendars, it will display the option on the G1 (and other android phones)
