REception Quality vs Original Droid Incredible

I believe the OP on this one! Like I have mentioned a few times, my Org Inc got better reception in northern wi where I go then the Inc 2. What I don't understand is all this technology and they can't make the one feature that it is suppose to be... a phone... work at least as good if not better then a basic phone.

My wife has a basic LG phone and can get reception in the middle of the lake up north fishing. My fancy expensive smart phone... No Reception at all!!!

My brother in law still to this day carriers one of the old Nokia maybe?? cell phones with the pull out antenna...

I did some more testing today, I stopped at a different verizon store that allowed me to test 3 phones side by side as well as my personal phone. Here is what I found. Please keep in mind that I turned off data on all phones and was only testing cell reception.

Droid Incredible (my phone). 1 bar and -91dBm. I was able to use the phone but the quality was not very good.

Droid Incredible 4G 3 bars but -101dBm. I was able to make a call but it was horrible quality. I am not sure if turning off "mobile" is the same as turning off 4G but that is what I did.

HTC Rezound 3 bars and -79dBM. I was able to use the phone

Motorola Razr Maxx full signal (5 bars I think) and -81dBm. I was able to hear crystal clear on the phone.

Not sure what all of this means except for the fact that Incredible 4g seems to have the worst reception of all of the phone.

First thanks for doing the testing and reporting here on it... However, that is bad news for me. I am already looking to get rid of my Inc 2 to go back to an Org Inc. The longer I wait the more and more I am leaning toward not even getting this phone. :( I really don't get why the better the technology gets the worse reception these phones seem to get. I bet if you put any "Basic" phone in your test, you would have had great phone quality with that as well.

Besides the lack of 4G, there was very little wrong with the Original Incredible in today's world.

I agree about the Original DInc if you have one that isn't giving you any trouble.

My wife and I had them from release day on and both ran into a host of problems once we started getting low memory errors starting around the GB update time-frame.

My Dad, Brother and Sister-in-law got theirs later on and they are still going strong. Although my Dad says his GPS has been wonky lately.

You guys need to realize that ICS reads signal strength differently. So comparing 3G signal strength of Dinc on GB to Dinc4G on ICS is almost like apple to orange.

Difference on dBm reading between ICS and GB can be easily 15 or more depending on signal to noise ratio. So 10 dbm higher on Dinc4G should mean roughly the same or better signal strength on Inc 4G. It's nothing to worry about as long as it doesn't drop out signals.

That is why I mentioned that the call quality was horrible. As you can see the Moto Razr had almost as bad a signal as the incredible 4g however the razr was still crystal clear when both speaking and listening during the phone call. The Incredible 4g was so choppy that it was unusable above -100 dBm.

Don't get me wrong, I was hoping the incredible 4g would be my next phone but since I live in an area with limited to no cell reception I need a phone that has very strong reception. So far no smart phone comes close to the reception my old BB Curve had. The wifes iPhone 4 comes close.

Re-Read his post on his testing. He actually made phone calls, not just compared signal strength. He gave you info on the call quality of each phone from the same location. That is not signal strength. That is a real world test and comparison of each of the phones.

Alright, some of you have had this phone for a couple of weeks now, plenty of time to make and receive calls. How is the reception? Compared to past phones, do you get better or worse signal?

I really want to get this phone, but I need it to have good reception. That's the one thing I don't like about my Inc2. I get no service at work, but I know other people who do (on a variety of different smartphones). I don't have the greatest reception at home either, so a good radio is a must for me.

The wife and I just got back from a 4 day motorcycle trip which included a stop in norther WI by our land where I was concerned about how good this thing got reception. It was a bit better then the Org Inc. I am so glad I decided to dump both the Org Inc and the Inc2 and go with this one. I will not be returning it.

Well for me I had the Org Inc then the Inc2 and now the Inc 4G. You are right the Inc2 gets horrible reception. This Inc 4G is getting as good as if not better reception for me then the Org Inc. I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Unless of course, the big red mafia would have let you keep unlimited data. Then you could of, and would have been a whole lotta happier.
