I'm having an issue with the HTC One camera app that was delivered with the phone not recording the date and time in the EXIF metadata. It's recording geo data correctly but no time or date data.

Does anyone have any idea how this may be corrected or seen the same issue?

I don't want you to think that your question is ignored, but personally I haven't even looked into that on my phone. The best answer I can give is "I don't know". :(

Have you tried running the RUU? Or rooting and using a different sense based ROM? Not sure that either will solve your problem, but they might.

... not recording the date and time in the EXIF metadata.

I don't have this issue so I can't check anything out, but there are some free camera apps that will print the date and time on the photo, if this is a possible solution for you. But, I don't know if they need the EXIF metadata to be there to work.

Might be worth trying them out to see if they will put the date and time in to the EXIF metadata, then at least you will know if the problem is with the phone or the camera app.

Couple of links below to two camera apps that print the date and time on the photo

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not familiar at all with "RUU" or "rooting and using a different sense based ROM". What is that?

You don't have this issue or this model phone? I've tried several camera apps and they will not store the date and time in the file either. The date and time was recorded in the file with a few initial pics I took shortly after getting the phone up and running. Since then nothing and I've taken a lot of pics.

I spent about 30 minutes with HTC tech support but they had no answers. I reset the phone to factory settings thinking the android system update might have caused the problem. Again the first couple of pics I took had the time and date recorded but nothing since then.

I bought this phone specifically for the camera and video features and the fact it's not recording the date and time in the file in very disappointing. I can't believe no one else has noticed this. This has been a basic function of camera phones since they've been around.

Here are two examples of pics taken with my phone. The first is viewing the file's properties with Windows and the other with Google +. Notice how much of the data is completely missing.

Can anyone with an HTC One S verify if their phone is recording the time and date in the file itself?

Thanks for any help.

Mine records the date and time correctly (I just checked ;)).

I'm not familiar at all with "RUU" or "rooting and using a different sense based ROM". What is that?
A RUU is a file you run on your computer with your phone connected that basically restores the phone software to factory conditions. A factory reset will not replace missing files/apps, a RUU will take care of everything.

Rooting and installing a ROM are even more advanced tasks than that. Rooting gives you superuser access (think administrator access) on your phone, and ROM is a custom OS.

If you are not familiar with this stuff, then I wouldn't recommend trying to do either to solve your issue.

In fact it may be worth seeing if you can get your phone replaced, because it should be recording that data correctly.

How does an RUU replace missing files/apps if it's restoring the phone to factory conditions?

I've just taken a photo and mine records everything correctly on my One S. Checked about a dozen random photos and they are all recorded correctly

Thanks to both of you for checking but I have another question. Are you checking the time and date for the file on the phone or through Windows OS on a computer? One quirky thing I've noticed is the date and time information seems to be displayed when viewing the pic through the the phone and accessing the "details". But when viewing the file/pic through any other means like Windows there is no time and date data there.

If you delete/modify certain things a factory reset won't restore them, running the RUU will. Like if a system app is deleted.

I checked on my windows 7 PC.

I checked on my windows 7 PC.

Thanks. Using what's available through the phone's menus I did another "Factory data reset". It is recording the time and date to the photo files like it should after the reset but we'll see how long it last. This is the second time I've done this. I'm not installing any other apps or updates for a few days and we'll see how long it stays working correctly.
