Incredible 4G Battery Life Thread

I figured with as many people concerned about the battery life of the Inc4G, it might be good for those of us who have it to share our battery life experiences so far.

Though I haven't had the phone long (obviously), I can already say that the battery life is far superior to the Rezound, but not quite as good as the Inc2. Today, for example, my phone came off the charger about 8 hours ago, and I used my phone for GPS for 18 holes of golf this morning. That's a pretty big battery killer, and I am still over 50% battery.

Overall I'd day the battery is going to be fine, but not the 30+ hours of my Inc2.

EDIT: By the way, the golf GPS app I use (Golfshot) picked up the distance much faster with the Inc4G than it did with the Inc2. There were times I waited 30-45 seconds or more for it to finally lock on the Inc2, but the Inc4G was basically instant. Very impressed with the GPS.

I've had mine off the charger today for 5 and half hours. I'm currently at 80%. That's with light to moderate usage.

Yesterday I had moderate to heavy usage over about 16 hours and was still at 40% battery when i plugged it in last night.

I haven't been using 4g much as I haven't been outside the house much the past 2 days. (wifi most of the time)

The first day I got it, it came with about 55% battery and I had extremely heavy usage for about 6 hours out of it before I had to charge. And when I mean heavy... I mean.. in about 6 hours.. the screen would've been off for roughly 10 minutes.

Personally, I'm never sure what people mean when they say "light to moderate usuage" or Heavy Usage of whatever. What seems light to me may be heavy to someone else. As someone who's interested in the battery life on this phone I'm more interested in, "My previous phone was X and I got Y battery life. Using this phone the same way, I get Z battery life." To me that's more useful information. Of course this assumes you don't change the way you're using your phone.

After about 24 hours of normal use, It would appear I'm getting about the same battery life I had with my original Droid Incredible. That is to say, Battery Left estimates about 32 hours on a full charge.

A couple of things to consider... First, being a new toy, one could argue that I probably used it more than normal in the last 24 hours. Second, I almost always have and use wifi at work and home.

Over all, I am pleased at this early stage. Time will tell. Your mileage may vary.

I went to bed with phone in the green and woke up to a dead phone. Battery usage showed screen using most of battery (screen was off when I was asleep, though). I have gmail on push, but my work email only checks in every 5 hours off peak.

I changed screen brightness to automatic and to lock/sleep after 30 seconds instead of 45. Still green after almost full charge this morning. I'll be interested to see if it makes it through the night. While I know I could start charging over night, I feel like if I go to sleep green it should be green when I wake up.

same settings as my orig inc as far as checking/syncing, and on wifi.

Yeah when mine is green going to bed its been 95% when I wake up. You shouldn't lose that much battery.

Since that runs all the time I uninstalled. Not sure if it will help or not. I have FB/Twitter syncing only every 4 hours. At least I was still green this morning.

It will probably take a while for "ALL" your apps to catch up to sense 4. Hopefully this device will sell enough units so it demands the developers attention.

As someone who's interested in the battery life on this phone I'm more interested in, "My previous phone was X and I got Y battery life. Using this phone the same way, I get Z battery life." To me that's more useful information. Of course this assumes you don't change the way you're using your phone.

^this. I am waiting to get a few full charge/discharge cycles in and then see how it compares to my DINC2. Time will tell...

Just for comparison, once in awhile I leave my Rezound on at night after I charge. I don't have 3G/4G on (only WiFi & GPS as far as data). Taking it off the charger at 99%, after 6 hours it ends up anywhere from 97% to 88%. Usually if it's 88% it updated apps while I was asleep. Otherwise it's usually in the mid 90s.

The other thing to note is that there is a Network Extender (femtocell) about 30 feet away, so it's signal strength is usually around -74dBm. If you're in a lower signal area, that can also contribute to bigger battery drain.

But along with the apps not setup for Sense4 that others have suggested, if you are only on your second or third charge cycle, it can take up to a week for the battery to reach it's full potential. Keep an eye on it and if it's still draining fast after a week look into it a little harder.

I am coming from a thunderbolt and the battery life on my new Incredible 4g is a huge improvement. I am a heavy user web browsing, facebook, email... use to have to plug in by 6 hours into the day. This new phone makes it all day. Even used it for a GPS Map My Ride for a two hour ride the past two nights. Went to bes last night after 16 hours off charge and had over 30% left. 52% left right now after 12 hours use. Loving it!

Second full day is also yielding impressive battery results. Over 12 hours off the charger and still at 53%. My guess is that I would be between 60-65% on my Inc2. To be fair, I had an 1800mAh Mugen-Power battery in that, so it looks like the Inc4G is closer to the same battery life to the Inc2 than I originally thought.

Bottom line is I do not think battery life will be an issue with this phone. A far cry from the first gen LTE phones.

Also coming from a Thunderbolt the Inc4G blows it away. I was running Arachnoid on my Tbolt and am just rooted and debloated on my Inc4G and it is night and day for me. This phone easily makes it a full day without any problems for me. With light to moderate use here is what I got Friday-Saturday, screen brightness set to ~25%, played a game for a bit, texting the whole time and a few phone calls, I was on wifi though. Overall though I'm still impressed and am hoping for an extended slim battery like for my OG Inc.

Also this was before I rooted it and forgot about the native screenshot, which is why the pictures were taken with another phone.

Not sure but doubtful. Sometimes you can make it work, like the Inc1 batteries fit in the Inc2 if you make new notches in another corner, or the Tbolt batteries may work in the Rezound but may give you a warning in the status bar.

If you are ok risking messing up the batteries or wrecking your phone (which I'm sure will void the warranty using unapproved batteries) then you can try it. I'd rather pay $30 so I don't have to worry about torching a $500 device.

I'm curious what your screen time on was. That is much longer than my girlfriend is getting. It gets to about 25% battery after 15 hours with about 4 hours of screen on. That is also with wifi on the vast majority of the day.

Cool - yeah I wouldn't risk it unless it was a definite. I haven't made the move yet but if I do, I was hoping my batteries might transfer over. Sounds like that's not the case. Oh well!

I was excited to see what everyone was getting off a charge and even more excited to see what I'd get.

My last two phones - a Rezound and Razr - got about the same amount of battery life. Typically, after pulling it off the charger at 7am, it'd be in the yellow/orange by 5pm. My phone would barely last 24 hours, even if I used wifi both at home and at work (which would consist of 22 hours in a day).

Well, I pulled my Inc off the charger yesterday at Noon. Wifi was on for about 12 hours. 26 hours later, battery life is at 23% remaining. I would say I used it about the same amount of time. Maybe a bit more as I was d/l a lot of apps.

I know with my Rezound, the screen usually ate up the battery (~80%), even if it wasn't on. My biggest eaters on the Inc are Screen (28%) and Android System (26%). Wow. What a difference. I don't even think my OG Inc lasted this long (it was dying a slow death). I'm impressed and I've only had the phone since Sunday - which means my battery is not conditioned at all yet.

The cpu in the Inc 4G has a smaller nm number, 28nm. The Inc 2 was 45nm. When that nm number gets smaller...its supposed to help with battery life.

Thats why sometimes its good to get devices with newer technology.

So it is possible. One better apples to apples comparison is put the Inc 4G on 3G only and compare it to your Inc2.

Update:

One week later, I am still very pleased with battery performance. It's at least as good as my original Droid Incredible, if not better. With improving accuracy, Battery Left is now estimating just under 40 hours of normal use on a full charge .
