Hey guys, i just upgraded from an iphone 4s and so far im loving the gs3. I just have one problem, Im not sure how to transfer files from my computer to my gs3. With my old DX i would just plug in the phone and drag and drop files. With the gs3 its not giving me that option. I have a bunch of backed up photos from my iphone i'd like to move onto the SD of my new phone, anyone know the best way to do this? I have a macbook air btw.

I just plug mine in via the supplied usb. I've got an international s3. Pops up as two drives, internal and external sd cards. Works via MTP profile.

Have you installed the samsung drivers?
just come from HTC sensation to S3 sound very easy way to tfr data etc effort free using "companion link v5 for outlook" yes small life time cost but instant Samsung s/w not friendly

Why does anyone want software to do a job that can be done without it.

The Galaxy S3 shows up on your PC as an external drive and you can just transfer any files you wish just like a flash drive to the internal or external memory.

Incorrect, it shows up as a phone. Not a drive, no drive letter is assigned. So many applications that we use already to sync data do not work.

Hey, i tried the drivers but they are only for windows, i have a mac. When i plug the phone into the USB no additional drives show up like they would with the DX. Im not really sure whats wrong, i dont think my mac recognizes that the phone is plugged in. Anyone else having this problem with a mac?

Wow, incorrect? It might not say its a drive but that's because you have to expand it to get access to the drives.

It shows up as other and when you open that phone your two drives show up. Jeez

So why would you want to sync when its so much easier to drag and drop?

Macs and Linux boxes don't use USB drivers, those are strictly a Windows limitation.

If you don't mind wifi speeds then I highly recommend SwiFTP to access everything. It will give a server address, on the Mac, Finder, Go, Connect to server, enter what SwiFTP says. (Or - just enter it into your web browser.)

To make it really easy, use Airdroid.

Both are free.

Extended memory phones with ICS use Microsoft's darling, MTP - the mass transfer protocol. And not every Window box has that working right so the above info is helpful to more than just Mac owners.

Because there's more than one way to do things and the way that works for you won't for others.

If wanting to maintain iTunes syncing, probably the best way is iSyncr with the wifi add-on.

MTP addons exist for Mac and Linux, but they tend to be unsatisfactory in general, according to a great many users.

Thanks i downloaded airdroid and its pretty good, i does what i need it to do. I still would like to be able to just connect my phone with a USB and drag and drop. Do you know if thats possible?

i dont have much experience with a mac, as far as dragging and dropping via usb... but have you tried transferring files via allshare yet? its quite simple and worked well for me. you just have to register through the allshare app on your phone and then go to AllShare Play on the pc, install the program, and they will automatically read each other. i transferred 3 albums in just a minute or two, its a pretty good program
sorry i cant help with the usb hookup, but that will transfer files really easy

This works on my phone (not a Samsung), but I have to select Media Sync on my phone from my USB choices for it to work.

When I do that, Android File Transfer opens automatically for me.

I'm able to see my internal storage as well as my external SD card, so maybe this is what you want.

It's been known to not work with all phones, but as soyaht17 says it works here, it's definitely worth a shot for you. :)

Hi,

For Guys having problems transferring files to MAC to your Samsung S3 vice versa. From your MAC PC download from this link Android.com.

But still much easier if it was a plug and play.

This comes directly from Google/Android, so it's safe. ;) :)

If you want something more Finder-friendly, definitely try SwiFTP and set it to go to the root folder (just /) and not /sdcard.

Android File Transfer will let you delete and upload files - SwiFTP won't let you delete, a feature that Apple "fixed" with the introduction of Leopard.

I'm having the same problem with my MacBook Air. I've downloaded the Android File Transfer app but it still won't see my S3 when it's connected via USB.

Apps and workarounds are great, but one of the great things about moving to Android was not having a middle-man (ie, iTunes). I'm frustrated I can't just drag-and-drop to the S3. Why has it changed from my S2?!
