att phone insurance/warranty???

ok i haven't purchased the insurance on my last two phones ...sgs2 and inspire, i know thats taking a risk but i did it anyway as i am very careful with my phones , i was considering getting the insurance when i plan on purchasing the galaxy s3 once it is released but my question is,is the insurance really worth it? i always thought if i break the phone i would have to pay a certain amount and they would send me out another new one.

well to my knowledge a couple of my family members who paid for the insurance on their att phones when broke and after they paid the fee they were sent "refurbished phones" not brand new, and 9 out of 10 times the refurbished phones they received had problems with them and didn't work properly and was more trouble than it was worth they said.

it just doesn't make sense to me to pay monthly for the insurance to receive a phone that isn't even brand new, what do you guys think?

If you're careful with your device and it's not going to stress your budget to have to pay full price for a replacement or you have backup devices you can use in the event you break your phone or it gets stolen, I'd say don't bother. Even if you do get insurance, aside from the monthly premiums, you usually still have a co-pay of $50-200 for the replacement phone depending on the cost of your device. I'd say you're better off saving the premium and allotting it for the SGS4. :p

I moved this thread into the AT&T forum, so that those on that network can respond.

I always pay for insurance on my AT&T phones, and have had to use it on two different phones. For both of those phones, the replacements were refurbished phones that looked and worked like new. If I had not known that they were refurbs, there would be no way to tell, from their perfect condition.

I keep insurance only for the first 6 -8 months. The deduct able makes it ridiculous to keep if you are a careful person. I never loose my phones, so I am only worried about dropping g it. That's why I get a good case. Refurbished phones are as good as new from my experience.
The first year, your phone is covered by the warranty, actually.

Phone arrived a few minutes ago. :)

FYI----1 year warranty does NOT cover heat or water damage (or any physical damage, actually). New phones all have heat/moisture sensors inside the back cover that change color when subjected to adverse conditions. No fibbing your wat to a new phone. Insurance is definately worth it in my mind. It has already paid off on my wife's phone.

The phone companies love extended warranties.
That should tell you they aren't a good deal.
Sort of like casinos and slot machines.
Money makers.
For every person that takes advantage of extended warranties there are thousands that do not.
Add up the monthly fee and the deductible and a lot of times it's more than a new phone.
I never buy extended warranties on anything.

do you know if the one year warranty covers lost or stolen? when i called the 1-800 warranty number, i was given options off the menu for lost or stolen, physical damage, etc. i'm uncertain if the warranty is free of charge or if it has fees.

I am unsure about lost/stolen phones.

I recently found out that Motorola has phone insurance for their products that is cheaper than what AT&T charges----BUT you have to go through Motorola, so it takes longer to get the replacement phone. I'd bet that other manufacturers also have insurance plans. I'll probably stick with the AT&T insurance plans just because of the convenience. Easy beats cheap when it comes to phone replacement for me.
