I just spoke to a friend of mine who works at Best Buy. I've got some bad news, Rushmore... He said BB corporate has been monitoring your posts on this thread...They ain't happy. He said they are going to give you your phone tomorrow but it's going to be the one they've been using as a store demo and it's been dropped and scratched up quite a bit. And if you complain anymore they're giving you a Tracfone! ;):D

Perhaps no harm no foul, since I got to test the GS3 and all the cases launching with it during a "power lunch". The good news is the store area I tested at has a mid level signal and the GS3 seemed to work great for media streaming and downloading. Plus similar dBm to the Razr- THERE at least.

The bad news is the display IMO is dim and gray/white. My Razr and the Gnex are brighter at 60% than the GS3 at 100%. The manager and sales staff agreed. The common comment was the display looked like it had a tint coating that was dimming it.

I am stunned, since did not expect this at all. Perhaps on its own, ignorance is bliss, but it looks like it has sunglasses on compared to the Gnex and Razr. Not sure I like it. Was hoping the auto image adjustment was the issue, but same result- dim and off-white.

Added:

It is ironic that the thing I assumed was great (display) was not- for me.

Did you try using a flashlight on it?

Not sure if Verizon finally gave into all of m complaints and rants, but my S3 just showed up on my front door.

For those still in "delivery limbo" I wish you all the best, and thank those kind souls who equally put up with my cries of anguish :p

I talked with a CSR last night; she told me it would be delivered Thursday July 11. It was at my door before noon today. Unfortunately there was no time to activate and play with it. Damn you 1 hour lunch! One more afternoon with my trusty Incredible!

Not true exactly.... Talked to a friend who works at verizon store as manager to try to settle my cancelled issue and was told they have limited stock on Tuesday and they are going to let them sell off what they already have now. They have an additional shipment coming in on Monday, but that is to be held for verizons launch day.

He doesnt go in till 1:00, but is supposed to hold one for me if they have some left and will try to talk to the person in-charge earlier that morning to try to have them hold one till he gets there.

Hope other corporate stores are going to do the same, I have a RAZR Maxx I purchased June 26 and I'm going to exchange it for the Galaxy S3 the 10th, the last day of my 14 day return window.
I purchased the Maxx over the phone on 6/26, but received it 6/29. I was told by one csr
the 14 day return starts when the phone is delivered, but who knows, you get a different answer from each employee.

Has anyone tried purchasing an S3 in-store today?

I tried 2 Verizon Corporate stores today and got the same answer:
It's not in our system and we couldn't sell one to you even if we wanted to.

I was able to get one manager to set aside a Pebble Blue S3 for me and he agreed to do an exchange on Thursday even if it's a couple of days beyond the 14 day return period. They have 30 of each color in the 16 GB version.

Wife's S3 just delivered, looks Gr8 with the Samsung flip cover. Can't activate it til she gets home.....Good Luck Everyone!

I received my device yesterday after having to threaten to cancel my services for verizon to setup a release of the device to be picked up at the location. Goodness do I like this phone. :) The only issue I've had is that wifi pop up whenever you try and do anything in an area with wifi. I'm sure I'll see ya'll around in the other threads. :)

If you root they already have a fix for that. :)

Mine's here! :D

Very svelt in appearance. I'm not crazy about the battery cover, and have to wonder just how many times it can be removed before problems begin. I hate "snap together" stuff because it is never made with the end goal in mind of getting inside to fix and maintain the device. But Hopefully I won't need to get in there much. I wish all devices still had a 'reset' button.

OK, here's something I haven't seen mentioned so far, that you folks still waiting might want to know. I started out following the Quick Start guide. This is my first 4G phone, so never had a SIM card before. It says to call the number listed to activate the SIM card (no mention at all of activating the phone) FIRST, before you install it and charge the phone. So, dutifully following the instructions, I did so.

After entering the required information during the landline call to do so, they say "to activate your PHONE now, press 1'. To repeat this message press (something else). NO MENTION of the SIM card EVER. So, I figured they must mean "to activate the SIM card" press 1. So I did that. Short story, they activated the WHOLE PHONE.

Now, the only reason I am concerned is that I haven't charged it yet, and this turns off the phone service to my DX, so I have 'no cell phone' now until I get the S3 charged and set up. It would have been nice of them to tell me in the instruction sheet that this procedure also activates the phone. I'm not ready yet to 'move' into the S3. Need to do some housekeeping on my 16GB SD card before I move that, etc.

And of course it remains to be seen if I kept my unlimited data. They don't mention that either. :)

So, I like the nice battery image on the display while its charging, showing how far to go. That blanks out shortly, leaving the red LED indicating the charge. I wanted to know how far it has come (arrived about an hour ago) but didn't want to boot the phone yet, so I tried pressing Home, and that brings the battery display back! Nice. I wonder if the display timeout on charging is tied to the timeout setting for the phone in general. One of the first things I always max out when I get a new device. If I want the screen off, I'll turn it off, thank you. Smart Display may be interesting, once I get to try it.

Really the display area of the S3 doesn't look all that much bigger sitting next to the DX, but overall the phone is a little bigger. And THIN.

Hey guys -

This is my first post and wanted to say hi! I too am a soon to be Galaxy S3 owner.

Here's my story. I pre-ordered the phone on June 16th and it was delivered today to a store location near me. I didn't have it delivered to me because I have a paper copy of my contract stating that I will keep unlimited data, and I didn't want to deal with any non-sense involving this. Therefore, I opted to do everything in person.

I called the VZW location where the phone was delivered, after getting a delivery notification via fedex, spoke to someone who confirmed the phone is there, but he then informed me I have to wait till 7/12 in order for me to get it. I said, "Are you kidding me"? He said that Samsung pushed the date back to Thursday and they can't release the phone till then.

I found a few articles speaking to this by doing a google search. On top of this bad news, the guy pretty much hung up on me after me asking him a few questions; I was completely polite aside if he took the are you kidding me question rudely.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm pretty unhappy and honestly, I'm starting to find this whole phone situation to be pretty ridiculous with Verizon.

Speaking as one of thousands of people now owning the S3, I think this whole 'Launch Day' issue is totally silly. Why the heck won't they let you folks have what you are buying when it comes in?? Just like BB and their super-secret spy lack-of-information smoke screen. Ridiculous. :/

That's crazy. I got my galaxy yesterday and when I called to activate, the person on the other line was in shock. In fact he kept asking me about the phone and I was just like well I could tell you more about it if you'd help me activate it... I think they're all really confused/making up their own theories. Hope the phone is worth all of this when you get it! Or, that you get it earlier!

Ahh, so close now.
Got the infamous email from VZW yesterday, at last, and my SGIII left North Hills before 8AM this morning. Currently working from home with one ear trained to the front door!
I'm a bit worried about activation as the stories of lost Unlimted data plans and having to call a CSR could be daunting.

Has anyone started a 'show off your screens, name your Apps' thread yet? Would be interesting to see what Apps people are using.

It wasn't that bad at all. Activation by the phones itself didn't work but I called CS right away because I knew there was this ongoing problem. In 5 minutes they had it done on their end, with my unlimited plan still in tact. I made sure to confirm that with them.

I screwed up and gave them the wrong CC information (gave them a number of a card that is deactivated) when I pre ordered and when they went to charge it on Monday it didn't go through so they cancelled my order. When I called to pay with the new card they said it wouldn't ship till the 19th .

Am I SOL on getting it this week or will they actually be releasing it in store ? I have no problem going to the store in the morning and buying it then .
