I just downloaded a ringtone but can't find it using 'My Files', which searches the SD card. Can someone tell me how to search for a file on my SD card? Either that or just how to get a ringtone generally? For example, where on my Galaxy S2 are the existing ringtones? What format do they need to be?

Thanks for any help.

When you download a file in the internet browser, they get placed on /sdcard/Downloads. I'm not sure if you set the storage options for the browser to external card if it then goes to /sdcard/external_sd. I've never tried it. Perhaps whatever you used to download the ringtone differs slightly from this behaviour.

Once your ringtones are on your sd card, you need to create specific folders for them to be recognized. Usually these folders go in a Samsung folder:
ie.
Alarms
Music
Notifications
Ringtones

Thanks. I did look there but couldn't find it. I finally made a folder called "ringtones" and re-downloaded it. That time it worked fine so I now have the Wallander ringtone. Hurrah!

Hawker knows that I have the, "Wallander", ringtone on my phone.

I've had it for over 2 years now after seeing the first episode on BBC television. I plagued the makers, "Left Bank Pictures", who commissioned the ringtone especially for the series. For the full story, see here.

Thanks for the story link. I assume the ringtone in Series 2 is the same as the one in the first series. I love it and my husband is so jealous because he has an old Nokia phone that he refuses to switch out for a new smartphone and we couldn't find it for his Nokia. I keep telling him he needs a new smartphone.

Yes, it is and this is season 3 on the BBC now.

What model of Nokia does he have?

If you could help locate that ringtone, I'd much appreciate it! Big fan of the show & love that haunting ringtone. Been googling for a while but cannot find the proper version.

My wife thinks I'm nuts of course....

I already answered this above.
Create a folder called Samsung and put the sub folders in there. (i think a folder called Media works too to hold these sub folders)

As long as you place your ringtones and notifications in the correct sub folder then they should appear in the selection lists.

If you don't see them them it may be because you have only just copied them and you might need to force a media scan. You can do this by rebooting or download and run an app called Rescan SD.
