BB, if you're happy on ICS, STAY THERE.
I have to warn you: bugs and all, once you experience the raw power and exhilaration of Jelly Bean, you will not go back. It's just that awesome.
Hey Dawnierae, have you checked out Swappa? My math tells me it's cheaper in the long run to buy a phone - especially a gently used one - outright... and not subsidize a phone with VZW and lose unlimited.
Run the numbers yourself and then decide whether you really need to lose unlimited or not
Curious why you say you will have to give up unlimited on 3 lines? You can upgrade without switching to the Share Everything plan, you will only lose unlimited on the upgraded line (it will switch to 2GB tier), with no change to your bill.
What is it with Motorola phones? My Droid didn't make it 18 months before it started going bonkers. My friend's Droid X had a similar usable life. His signal dropped significantly and battery was almost non-eixistant before he was elligible for an upgrade. He was burned so bad by it that he went and got an iPhone last week.
With all four lines, even contemplating the heaviest data use months for each line, 8 GB would be more than enough for us, so losing unlimited wouldn't be THAT huge of a deal (although it does chap my a$$ that VZW has done away with it.) And, if I'm honest with myself...I like new phones, and since our upgrades are spaced apart nicely, I am able to get the newest phone about every 6-8 months or so.
My husband's line is the one with the upgrade - he currently has unlimited data, which he would lose with the upgrade. My daughter only has the 2 GB plan now. So you're saying I would only lose unlimited on my husband's line? How would I have the share everything on 2 lines, and still have unlimited on 2? That would be great...I was just under the impression that if you upgrade any phone in your family plan, your entire plan would switch to the Share Everything plan.
And this phone isn't even that old. It's my old one, but it had been replaced once (under warranty) less than a year ago. It doesn't want to charge, and everytime she plugs it in, she ends up having to do a battery pull to make it charge.
My OG Droid is still going strong and I just gave away my D2 for a replacement and it was working great. Admittedly, the batteries are / were tired after two years but replacements can be found easily enough if I needed to.
BTW CaptainRon, did that D2 show up yet?
Thank you Pup! Your D2 was in better shape than mine when I gave it to my daughter and is in much much better shape than it is now. (I already bought her a Seidio case that will hopefully protect it better.) She is thrilled and asked me to enthusiastically thank you for her.
When tether/hotspot is being used is it interrupted when you receive a call or text? I'm assuming yes, but looking for a definite answer.
Since the phone cannot do simultaneous data / voice on 3G then yes it will cut out, but if you have 4G then it works perfectly fine since they are going over two different networks. When tether/hotspot is being used is it interrupted when you receive a call or text? I'm assuming yes, but looking for a definite answer.
Great, tell her she is more than welcome.
I screwed up loading the picture on my earlier post. Her settings, SD card and battery are now in their shiny new home. Thanks again Pup!
Any of this dialog in this thread sound familiar to anyone?? lol
Gamestop Nexus 7 confirmed in stock - xda-developers
Found it! Took a few minutes, but then it pops right out at you.For all you detail-oriented Watering Hole denizens.
Find the cat. He's there.
When your Nexus 7 arrives, you should be able to unlock its bootloader, root it, and have a custom recovery up in a matter of minutes. After all, it is a Nexus. But if doing things the manual way isn’t for you or you simply don’t have enough time to type “fastboot oem unlock,” then a root toolkit should be right up your alley. WugFresh built one a while back that continues to be updated with support for new Nexus devices, including the Nexus 7. Without having to worry about drivers and the Android SDK, you can use a root toolkit like this, press a couple of buttons, and be on your way.
v3.3 (md5: a6ee21fc0b7dfb60a7d9490bb13e2a32)
fixed some slow boots from aosp builds
fixed wifi tether for those without plans (doesn't get reported to verizon)
added missing libraries for google ears
fixed bug with adb from aosp builds
fixed FCs on apps
follow directions below, hopefully app restore should work (improved in next gapps, though)
other minor bug fixes
use 07/11 GApps!
can dirty flash from 3.1 or 3.2, MUST clean flash from ANY other rom!!!
Probably everyone is busy playing with Jelly Bean flashed on their phones?
I appreciate WugFresh for making the whole process of unlocking and rooting so easy. It was so easy that I rooted my Nexus and flashed Bugless Beast 4.1.1 in an hour before going to work.
Sure wish google would send me that shipping email for my GNex :-(
