What happened? Please help.

Couldn't find any answers when I searched so I have rooted hero with fresh 1.1 gumbo kernel with setcpu. I have been running it fine for a while. I haven't flashed anything new in weeks. It has been stable and I've been very pleased. Today I was listening to music and went to change the song on Merdian Player. The screen went black except for the task bar at the top. I had to pull the battery. On restart it wouldn't full load everything and it would freeze. I tried nandroid backup but it freezes during it and doesn't finish. I really don't know what to do. I need my phone even if it means starting off clean slate again.

I download the file and extracted it. Ran the file it said and it starts. Then after like a minute i get Error [171]: USB CONNECTION ERROR. Same thing after I tried it again.

Did you happen to rename your nandroid? If so, make sure there are no spaces in your nandroid backup name. If there are spaces in the name, it will mess up the restore.


Also, no biggie, but this should be in root section.

I didn't rename them. And ya I'm sorry I thought I was in it when I created the thread.

Are you able to boot into recovery?

17.How do I boot into Recover Mode from Power Off?
a.

1) Pull Battery (If necessary and stuck in a loop)
2) Press and hold the "Home" button
3) Continue holding "Home" while pressing and releasing the "Power" button

If so you can try this:

Boot into recovery. If you have the ROM zip file still on your phone, you should be able to do a wipe and then flash it again. If you don't have it on your phone, you can enable USB, put the signed zip (ROM) on your sd card, disable USB, wipe and try flashing it again.

Let us know what happens.

Are you able to boot into recovery?

If so you can try this:

Boot into recovery. If you have the ROM zip file still on your phone, you should be able to do a wipe and then flash it again. If you don't have it on your phone, you can enable USB, put the signed zip (ROM) on your sd card, disable USB, wipe and try flashing it again.

Let us know what happens.

Here is info on the RUU:

I was able to boot into recovery. I wiped and tried flashing. It gets to the home screen and it shows the loading dialog. The screen dims like it would normally but after it turns to black I can't get the screen to turn back on using the red hang up button. It's like its shut off now.

Anyone...anything? When I run the RUU it just stays on rebooting to bootloader....

Did you make sure to wipe davlik as well? Are you making sure to wait a while after flashing? Sometimes it takes a while to boot afterwards.

Yea I wiped davlik. Boots now. Freezes up anytime it does anything with the sd card. I tried to mount and it like freezes. I pull out the sd card and it goes back to being fine. I put it back in and it freezes up again.

Hmm...if it is something to do with the SD card, you could wipe EXT and reformat it. Not sure if that will help, but it might.

Yea I'm starting to think it has to do with the SD card too. I'm going to try that. Either way thanks for giving me idea and such. It has been really stressful over here for the past hours.

My SD card doesn't want to reformat. When I try to do it in windows I get Windows was unable to complete format. Does that mean it's fried?

Go through the different options in recovery (i forget the exact wording of each). See if you are able to format EXT. Again, I'm not 100% this will fix it for you, but it sounds to me like your SD card has something going on. G'luck and let us know.

I think it is done for. I found out where to format it and it would start doing the dots like it was doing it and stop after like 10 seconds and stay there.
