Help Ringtone for Contact keeps going to Default

Sorry for this very similar question folks, but the other answers are for older phones and I need an answer specific to my new Motorola Razor Maxx Phone from Verizon.

It should all be very simple. I successfully added a new MP3 clip into a new folder for ringtones (learned that here), and I now see it as a choice in my list of all ringtones. So far so good. Here's the rub- when I identify the contact I want to associate with the new MP3 ringtone (Twilight Zone TV Theme, btw), the change happens, but it changes the ringtone for ALL of my contacts. In otherwords, the Razor Maxx won't allow me to just associate the one ringtone to the one contact. It's now become default for all incoming calls.

For Pity's sake, and my sanity, would one you kind expert souls please help this newbie? I'm an anal-retentive and it's driving me crazy!

Many thanks in advance

Thanks, AntimonyER, KELMAR and Imarine6523. I did try your suggestions about going into 'people' or in my case 'contacts' and just setting the one specific ringtone but all to no avail. No matter what I do to exclude everyone else, the selected ringtone becomes the default for everyone.

See, I thought it would be quite amusing to set my mom's ringtone as the opening music to the old 1960's show "The Twilight Zone". Now, either everybody in my contacts gets Twilight Zone, or nobody does; it just wont accept this simple command.

Grrrrr. I am so confounded!! But thanks for trying to help me and I'll be happy to try anything else you can think of.

Many thanks you guys, Stacy

I'm trying to remember to recall how it's done on GB... if you push and hold on the contact you want to change, what happens?

OK, when I push and hold on the contact I want to change, I get a little pop-up page with my mom's name on it. It gives me options including View Contact, Call Contact, Text Contact, Add to Favorites, Edit Contact and Delete Contact. If I choose Edit Contact (which seemed like the most reasonable choice), it only gives you options of changing info such as Name, Phone Nos., address, organization, nickname and website. :(

What happens if you just press the contact THEN press menu?

Same exact outcome, Kelmar. I even tried something I read here in an earlier thread. Some posters said to try renaming a contact just a litte bit, such as adding a middle initial. Then to add the unique ringtone to that one and delete the original. Sounded like a cool idea, but that didn't work either.

There's just got to be some kind of software glitch in this version (even tho' the phone isn't even a month old!) that prevents the user from making such seemingly simple personalizations to their "smart"phones.

I know it's not the end of the world, but, like so many others on here, it bugs me that what IS supposed to work DOESNT work and the best minds on the blogs cannot figure it out. Maybe I should just give it up?:dontknow:

Well my quest continues. I found an app called Ringdroid (a google app). It seems to be able to override the telephone's own built-in software. So far I think it works *crossing fingers*. I was kinda hoping to fix the prob without a app as a bandaid, but I don't think it can be done.

Just wanted to tell this to anyone else experiencing same frustration and to say thanks to all who helped me - Stacyb

I'm not sure what you're doing, but default ringtone should be set through the system settings menu. Menu/Settings/Sound/Phone Ringtone, then select your ringtone. Personalized ringtones are set for individuals by pressing Contacts/Press on a Contact/Menu/Options/Ringtone, then select your ringtone for that individual. Hope that helps.
