Goodbye Samsung Moment

I just spent 10 minutes writing why I was dropping the Moment, then the piece of crap crashed, I lost everything & I had to start over. This time no nice eloquence, because that pretty much covered it as to why I am going back to a Blackberry, I need something that works as expected.

Thanks to everyone for all the great posts, I'll still hang around the forums but it's time to dust off the crackberry account. Goodbye headaches, hello ability to make a call, surf, get email, connect to a computer, a battery that lasts, etc, etc, etc,..................................................................

Umm... I am disenchanted as the next guy, but this phone makes better calls, surfs WAY better, and has easier email access than my Wife's blackberry. Not to mention the battery has no problems ever since the CL14 update.

I agree that the Moment has its fair share of problems, but not any of the ones you listed.

Another reboot (and yes, I have replaced the phone, it does the same thing) just to say I am a IT field tech who is on the road a lot & need a dependable phone that always works & my Blackberries have always been that. I am currently the one installing the internet connectivity at a site & so my lappy is on a cisco console watching someone program remotely, so my phone is my connnection & this one doesn't work.

2 battery pulls, a p*ssed off project manager, & a irate network engineer later. The whole point of this post (and the starting of a new thread) was to say thank you to all the people who posted info that helped in my (and other persons) quest to make this a workable phone. I just feel I have to leave Android for now, I truly hope to come back to it soon but work is the priority. If it was a solely personal use phone it would be different. Once again, thank you to all who post solutions to problems and answer questions w/o attitude and denegration of a noob.

I ran the replacement completely stock-out-of-the-box for over a week and I had the same exact problems. I am of the opinion that it is my 'Lifestyle', like I said earlier, I am a field guy (really, last night I drove 200 miles to do a IBM Blade server, connectivity, POS, & storage solution move. Then I drove 300 miles & installed a drive thru order display system, then drove 190 miles home.)

Yes i agree the samsung moment does have its problems. I feel it shouldnt take 5 buttons to make a phone call. or if the phone is in your pocket and someone calls you have to wait 3 seconds after you take the phone out because the proximity sensor is garbage and works even when the phone is ringing. But as far as a web browser. I think only the iphone has the moment beat there. BB web is horrible

Keep the Moment as your personal phone/internet/email/etc device, and make your job buy you a small stupid phone for voice calls when they need to reach you in the field.

On his planet the phone has to be rebooted constantly (only ever had to reboot for data locks on mine and wifes, never crashes), why would he want to keep it as his personal phone?

If he is using his phone for tethering, either USB or wifi tethering, then he would need to reboot like this. I have found lately that my moment works great when I am not using it for tethering, however if I tether I have all his same problems. USB tethering drops USB connection to laptop so you have to reboot phone every so often to get the computer to see the phone again. Wifi tether causes my battery to drain as fast as it can charge on the wall, if not faster. It also causes the data lockups that we all know about.

For all honesty.. The Blackberry is a more "stable" phone and DOES (i repeat DOES) have better e-mail integration (due to the nature of a push e-mail server run by RIM that can handle multiple accounts on different servers)... I left a 8330 curve for the moment and do miss at times the keyboard (blackberry's have one of the best keyboard designs i have ever seen.. atleast the 8330 did) and the battery life (2 days heavy use without charge) BUT it was more of a minimialist phone.. it did the bare minimums necessary to get the job done (no fancy layouts or animations) and it took FOREVER to reboot.. you feared a battery pull for the 2-5 minute boot time (i was amazed when the moment took 20-30 seconds the first time i booted it.. thought something was wrong)... each have their trade offs

I have a BB Curve, Palm Pre, and Moment. Each has their own "Better than" features. It is true, you cannot beat BB for email, but other than that the Palm WebOS and Android OS are far superior just because of the openness. (Especially Palm for openness)

I have had no reboot issues with the Moment as stated above. There has to be a memory leak on an app or something. In any case I do not think it is the norm. I am a owner of a small tech firm and drive all over the place as well, with no issues.

I don't really care about your background and what you do for living, I do a lot of the same kind of stuff. I haven't had any need to reboot or anything. You just might have a bad Moment. I do a lot of heavy use on my phone and have none of the problems you have. I have also rooted my phone though and use the SDX kernels which offer much better stability and battery performance. It's pretty easy to do.

You are doing it wrong then, you have to underclock the CPU while tethering to avoid a data lockup.

I finally go so fed-up with this piece of crap phone that I took a risk and bought an EVO 4g from a guy on Craigslist. I did my due diligence and it wasn't a scam. I could not WAIT to stop using the Moment. I would never get an Epic because Samsung has totally lost my confidence with this crappy phone. I was so happy with Samsung up to this point that all of my phones have been Samsung and I even bought on of their TVs! But they just lost a loyal customer by not supporting this P.O.S.

Loving the Evo. Loving the fact that I can actually receive calls. Loving that I can actually surf the net. Loving no lockups. Loving the fact that I push something and the phone works.

As soon as I can get my hands on an Evo to my Moment is history. Tired of Email working then not working. Then I have to go back and reset everything for it to work for another day. Totally useless battery life. The recommended correction seems to be to "root the phone, diasble GPS, disable navigation, disable the weather, disable everything". What the heck is the point of buy a high tech phone and then having to disable everything so you can get a few hours of use from the battery ? Looking at my friend in work play with his Evo for 4 or 5 hours playing games, texting, and being on the internet makes me sick when I see him. I agree, no more Samsung phones for me.

I have to believe a lot of you who are having problems with Moment are going to have problems with other phones.

My personal Moment has had zero problems. I just helped a friend convert to 3 Moments for his lines a few weeks ago. The Moments all work flawlessly. Another friend just converted to a Moment this weekend, no complaints yet.

Very strange that there are people who have nothing but problems with this phone.

The picture was taken with my Moment, of the 3 Moments I helped my friend set up.

I'm not going to sing the praises of the Moment, but it appears there's something seriously wrong with yours. The Evo doesn't get significantly better battery life than that Moment, bat life is one of the biggest gripes from Evo owners. The Evo also has more than it's share of problems, mostly to do with the screen. If you're still under warranty and you're not planning on getting that Evo right away, consider taking in your Moment and getting it swapped. I thought tha poor gps performance was a given with the Moment till my last swap. My new Moment has great gps reception and I've yet to see a cdma lockup. About a week in and it has performed flawlessly leaving me to wonder why I persevered with the old one. Good luck either way.

I have to disagree. The battery life on my Evo is better than either one of the Moments I had. The battery drains normally...it doesn't drop from 70% to 15% suddenly.

I have had the Evo for a week now and am loving it. Haven't had any problems with it. Everything works. I don't have to disable most of the cool things about a "smart" phone to get it to function.
