I'm pretty new to this whole thing and forgive me if there's a similar thread but I looked and found nothing. I got my Prevail back when FA19 was the norm and rooted it to get rid of all that shitty bloatware... I understand that now I want to update it to FE16 because Boost mobile's service is absolute garbage and I heard that updating the baseband will also at least make the signal a tiny bit better. But I also want that new lock screen and a bunch of the stuff from the new update.

I didn't update yet because the rooted version of FE16 came out RIGHT before I left for a 2 week vacation at the beach, and I didn't want to be stuck in New Jersey with a broken phone, so I finally decided to get off my ass and update now. I guess I'm supposed to use Odin to flash the downloaded rom (I downloaded Kouma's root of FE16, I believe), but I'm not sure what specifically NOT to put into Odin in order to keep all the data on my phone. Correct me if I'm wrong, but there's a root file, a phone file, and at least one other file, right? Which of those am I supposed to leave out in order to update the baseband and get all the slick features of the update (I believe it's 2.3.7) but without wiping my contacts and games and all that other jazz off my phone?

Again, sorry for the noobery, I'm new to all of this and not exactly tech-savvy, and thanks for any possible help I'll get on the matter. I also want to make sure FE16 is the newest update; I saw something about FF19 and if that's true I guess that's newer and I'll wait for someone to root that? I dunno.

Flash just the phone.tar (fe16)
It will update just the baseband.
You will keep your data.
Ff19 is new and not made to work with Odin yet

Thanks, LordVincent! Seen you around these forums and you're very helpful. Will this let me get the new lock screen and stuff too?

No, just the radio upgrade. If you want that, you would have to use the stock ROM (by flashing the whole Odin package), or half ass ROM (both will wipe your data).

If your running a custom ROM, then your not going to get the lockscreen, etc anyways. The ROM changes that.

Eh, well then I'll just change the baseband. The lock screen seems to be the only significant new thing in the update and it's not a deal-breaker for me. Thanks again for the help!

I'd like to add the fact that the new lock screen is not all that. I flashed the whole new update and everything to check things out. Very uninspired.

On the lock screens from other roms I can set the phone on silent from it etc. This unlock any direction is cool but not all that. The lock screen bored me in 32 seconds flat.

Yeah, my sisters got the phone recently and I have no idea how to silence the phone with that new lock screen... I didn't even think about that, hahah.
