Help Can not use Bluetooth when audio jack is plugged in

Which carrier's SGSIII do you have? Or is it the international?



Which Nexus is it? My Galaxy Nexus does not have this issue. Neither did my Droid X nor my HTC Eris. Now, I realize some phones default the audio to the headphone port even if bluetooth is connected, but also have an option to choose outputs. This option is grayed out on the SGSIII with Verizon for some reason, and it's horribly annoying, and a bit unsafe. I really hope they issue a fix. The AT&T version does not seem to have this issue, if you watch the video above.

International S3. Was initially O2 branded but I flashed unbranded firmware via Odin.

Mine was the Verizon Gnex.

Not sure why that's happening then. I thought it was standard for the phone, but I agree, it's very annoying! Hope a fix/workaround can be found.

This. New audio decks (like ones on Crutchfield) all come with Bluetooth capability. So you don't have to run a cable from the Aux on the phone to the stereo.

I would assume if you're streaming music (like Google Music or Pandora) via Bluetooth to the deck and a call comes in on your bluetooth earpiece, the music would stop and you could answer the phone.

But I would like to know if anyone else has experience with this.

New stereos are pretty cheap with this capability, like in the $120-150 range.

My bluetooth earpiece connect as phone device and A2DP (?). On my Incredible I could turn off the A2DP part and just use the phone part but I can't find the setting for that on the S3. Can this not be done?

Well, word from the Samsung support guy on Facebook, as others have said, is that when the AUX cable is plugged in, Bluetooth audio is dead, dead dead, and that's just the way it is. However, supposedly, the phone can sync to both the car Hands_Free, and an A2DP adapter that I can plug into the car's AUX jack, and they'll play nicely together. I ordered an A2DP (couldn't find one locally) and we'll see. If it works, I'm keeping the phone; if not, it's going back. I was considering going with A2DP anyway just for convenience. Marginally better sound quality isn't a huge deal for 57-year-old ears listening to non-music podcasts. Still... it's an annoyance.

I went to the Sprint store and told the guys I wanted to return my GS3 and pic up the Evo, they said why would you want to do that, as though the Evo was a piece of junk (I swear they are getting paid to push the GS3). When I told them the problem, they said no Android phone can switch off headphones for the Bluetooth, and that the iPhone 4s had an option to do it. I told them my original Evo could. They said it must be ICS. Anyway, we took the GS3 and an Evo LTE out to my car. The GS3 obviously didn't work. Then we hooked up the Evo and had Pandora playing, it switched over flawlessly (it has the same options as the iPhone 4s). I exchanged the GS3 for the Evo. I should have stuck with the Evo in the first place, I loved my Evo 4g.

Add me to the list. Just tested myself with a cable and no audio can be heard through bluetooth *OR* aux cable during a call, so this is just a really bad bug rather than an intentional design.

I use an A2DP adapter most of the time, but occasionally find myself in other vehicles where I use the line out directly and won't have the bluetooth a2dp adapter or the infuse dock with the line out from the USB.

On my Droid X, I could have my stereo cable connected and still use Bluetooth for calls. It switched to Bluetooth when I made a call.

With the darned Galaxy S3, it seems that the stereo cable takes priority because the phone thinks you have Samsung's earbuds plugged in, and it won't use the Bluetooth unless I unplug the cable! And obviously my stereo cable has no mike on it. This is ridiculous. Not only can I not make calls unless I unplug, I can't use voice navigation (which I always use to set my destination!) because the moment you plug in the cable, the phone mike turns off. I yelled at my phone for 5 minutes before I figured this out.

I don't know if this is something Tasker could possibly help with...I doubt it. It seems you can buy a 3.5mm cable with a mike in it, but what a waste of my Bluetooth lol...

Aggravating. The design philosophy differences between USA-based Motorola and urban international Samsung are becoming apparent. No decent car dock (and Google's car home isn't even installed!) and no way to trigger car mode with a magnet like on the Motorola phones... I'm an American. I drive everywhere! Grrrr...

Count me in as outraged. I already made my own post because I hadn't seen this one. This was dead simple functionality with my Droid X. I just wrote a message to Sammy support on FB too, and I'm calling Verizon tomorrow.

This is just a ridiculous issue, especially since two year old phones can switch to Bluetooth for phone calls.

I just ordered it and should get it in a day or two so I can post a review of if it worked well or not...

I started out using this one myself. It's ok, but found the audio quality of the pre-amps in the TuneLink to be quite a bit better, but the TuneLink was nearly double the price. The TuneLink also has a backup FM transmitter in case you find yourself in a car without an aux in.

It worked on my S3 until I flashed the latest software on it. It's annoying!

Well i officially returned my S3 because of the bluetooth issue when having a 3.5 mm wire plugged into the phone. I have a 2010 Nissan Pathfinder with the factory bluetooth stereo. But my question is, if i had the Belkin Aircast bluetooth kit, would i have been able to have the S3 connected to 2 bluetooth devices, 1 being the handsfree kit in the car and the belkin aircast? So whenever i would get a call while listening to music the call would come through from the cars bluetooth, once the call ended, went back to the belkin bluetooth device and continued the music? Would it have stopped playing the music which you would then have to go back and launch the app once again or hit the play button on the app (like with tunein radio app)? I may consider buying the S3 again because going back to my safe mode htc incredible is killing me! I read a thread here and i know others have an issue with this as well so If anyone has tried this and was successful please reply!

Well, I just got a Bluetooth stereo adapter for my car, and that works fine. Make or receive a call, the "Listen" app pauses the audio I was playing, then resumes when the call is terminated.

That meets my needs, so I'll keep the S3. It still seems very odd that Samsung's top of the line phone would not "just do the obviously right thing" that every other company's phones seem to do with no problem whatsoever.

But it's the only serious issue I've had with a phone I otherwise like a lot. And since there is a work-around... fine.

Exact same problem here with my new Verizon S3 -

I am listening to music through headphone cable to Aux in My 09 Tahoe --- call comes in and I have to unplug the phone WHILE driving in order to answer the call -- even though i have a perfect bluetooth voice connection paired with the phone and my tahoe ... a million details to check before roll out and they missed this one ..

don't worry guys - this WILL get fixed. It takes one accident and the liability antennas at samsung will be picking up the signal if they haven't already ...

It won't get fixed unless we all demand it.

I wrote to Samsung support on Facebook and regular email too - on Facebook they seem much more responsive, and I got the same answer. The support guy did say this after I asked if they would consider fixing it:

"No problem Chris! I have sent your concerns over for analysis, though I cannot speculate on any changes at this time. We will keep you posted"

WRITE IN. CALL VERIZON. This is probably a really stupid thing to fix for them, but they won't do it unless we ask.

Confirmed that this is working fine on my GS3 on Rogers (Canada). I use the 3.5mm aux port for music in my car, and bluetooth (BlueStar OnStar replacement module for GM vehicles) for calls.

Listening to music, make or receive a call on bluetooth, music pauses, end the call, music plays again.

Edit: Forgot to mention that in-call the button that switches between headseat/bluetooth works fine.

My GS3 is bone stock from Rogers, ICS 4.0.4.

Off topic: Man, the music app is BUGGY! Pauses and switches songs every now and then for no reason. The sound actually changes when going between screens in the Music App, as well as between Home Screen and Music App. The Sound is much "wider" and better when not in the app and music is playing. (Need good stereo/headphones/ears to hear this problem).

Just realised its not fixed, it's actually when the phone is locked that it doesn't work for me now.

S Voice should work when the screen is locked otherwise it's a rubbish hands free kit for the car!!

Anyone know how to get S Voice to work when there's a pattern lock set?

Don't think this is possible. I'm pretty sure they are assuming that if you are putting something in the way of security to get onto your device (pattern, pin, password, etc), then you wouldn't want unauthorized access to your phone in any way.

Seems crazy to me as S Voice can't completely unlock the phone anyway and the phone had to be unlocked at some point to pair to the headset.

Plus it worked fine before the firmware update. I think it's a bug because like the OP in another similar thread said, it plays a noise indicating its listening then it just turns off the screen and stops.

S Voice allows you to do many things. Call someone, view calendar/appointments/contacts, view email, send messages, search the web, launch apps, etc, etc. Lots of things you wouldn't want an unauthorized person to do if you are setting up security on the lock screen.

Also, it is interesting that when I initiate a bluetooth call from my car's call button, it launches S-Voice, but 80% of the time quits unexpectedly. It works 100% fine when I initiate the Bluetooth/S-Voice call by double-clicking the home button to launch S-Voice directly from the device.

It also works over blue tooth if you disable the lock screen. It just doesn't work over blue tooth with a lock screen.

With regards to security, someone would have to have access to a blue tooth headset you had already paired with your phone. Not likely is it there's no real security concern there imo.
