GS3 Case discussion thread

I decided to give this one a try. I like the other card holding cases that Jubba posted better with the one exception being that they didn't cover the entire perimeter of the phone (top and bottom edges exposed). This one doesn't seem quite as tidy and we'll see how the silicon holds up, though I will only be using this from time to time. Included bottle opener is a novelty, but pretty funny.

I was wondering why Diztronic was taking so long in shipping the matte blue TPU case I ordered. It appears I never really finalized the order. I checked the credit cards I use and also my PayPal account. No charges. I guess I messed up.

Just as well, though, since I'm satisfied enough with the blue Belkin case from Verizon. I'll keep poking around this thread, but I'm not sure I have much more to contribute right now.

I would be all over this case if it had a more simple design. I've always wanted the iPhones version.

For the week I have had my GSIII vzw. I have had and returned the grey Rocket Fish 2 piece snap on case, but the bottom of the case was alittle too close to the home button for me.

Then I picked up an Otter Box Commuter, but the power /volume buttons were extremely too difficult to press through the case. Returned

Then tried the OEM Samsung flip case in blue. Which actually looked nice in contrast to my White 32gb. But found after a one day of heavy use the flip cover was in the way alot!. Returned

Moved onto a Belkin grey/black bumper case which is nice for light use. Kept, for now

And stopped at T-Mobile today and picked up a smoke D30 case mainly for use at work for its claims for drop testing. Which is a nice little gel style case. Only about three hours old but starting really like it.

I was totally waiting for you to get the Diztronic and let me know how you liked it! :) I am also deciding between the Verizon Blue and the Diztronic Matte Blue. I took another look and at least on the Verizon website I see that the blue is darker than I remember when looking at it (maybe I was standing under one of those super-bright lights they use in retail stores). But I THINK I'd prefer a matte finish over glossy. I dunno, maybe I should just buy a damn case and move on to some other obsession in life :hmmmm:

To me, the matte finish on my elago was a little slicker/slippier feeling than the Belkin case, and that's why I have it on instead of the elago. I prefer the grippier feel. I think the elago and Diztronic are pretty comparable - but I'm not buying one to prove it! LOL!!

Besides, the back of the phone is already shiny without a cover, so if that shinyness doesn't bother you, the case shiny probably won't either.

Yeah i hear you on that. I thought the shiny Tpu also shows finger oil but nothing a little wipe on thepants wont solve.

Man i hate the Samsung keyboard in terms of axcuracy. Need to investigate others

Curious if anyone has used any type of charger case for any phone:

Power Bank Case for Samsung Galaxy S3

Basically it's a case (no front coverage though) that will also help extend battery power when you're low. It adds length for sure.

It sure does add a lot of bulk. That price in U.S. Dollars will get you a genuine Samsung battery with enough left over for a couple of decent cases. And since that likely does not contain a genuine Samsung battery you could match that on Amazon with several off-brand batteries and a stand-alone charger. I would like it better if it had maybe double the batter capacity. Not a bad idea if you can live with the increase in size/bulk but it needs more capacity.

As soon as I saw the OEM flip case from Samsung I knew it would be one of the first accessories for my new S3. Unfortunately after having read reviews of the case's questionable construction, coupled with the fact that I wasn't a huge fan of the integrated battery door, I figured I'd shop around for an alternative.

Thankfully that alternative came in the form of ROCK's Big City Flip case.

Warning: Picture Heavy:

PROS:

*Texture is PHENOMENOL! - The pictures really don't do it justice. ROCK claims the material is "Italian imported PU", (I suspect it's like a "Pleather", plastic-like leather) but whatever it is, it provides a great deal of grip but remains extremely soft to touch. An added bonus is the fact that the "dark blue" variant matches PERFECTLY with the S3 Pebble Blue version.

*Design is simple, elegant, and creative - Reverting back once more to the texture, I've never seen anything quite like it. It's almost reminiscent of a cascading waterfall. The inside is completely lined with a micro-fiber/felt-like material that ensures both the front and back of the device will remain scuff free. Not to mention the "cradle" for the actual phone hugs it in all the right places, ensuring it won't escape the case's clenches :p All ports, camera, light, and speaker portions are precisely cut and accessible, EXCEPT the volume rocker (at least when the case is closed); thankfully however the material on the spine of the case is soft to the touch, thus allowing you to press the volume rocker with ease.

*Reasonably priced - Similar cases run $25+, and given the reputation of ROCK and the quality of the case, I'd say it's nothing short of a great buy. Not to mention it comes with a screen protector and decorative lanyard. I managed to pick mine up via eBay for $16.88 shipped (note: I have yet to come across a seller not based out of China or Hong Kong).

CONS:

*Loose Frontt - Similar to the Samsung OEM Flip Case (along with a bevy of other similar products) the front portion of the case has no clip, magnet, or similar fastening feature. While not a particular deal killer for me, I'd rather not have the flap potentially swing to and fro every time I use the device. (Note: I plan on trying to add a magnetic strip to solve this in the near future).

*Top and Bottom Minimal Protection - I suspect ROCK took a cue from slim case designs when designing the "cradle" portion. Similar to slim cases, there seems to be a minimal amount of protection for the device on both the top and bottom portions of the case. Unfortunately I haven't tested a screen protector with the case on, but will update accordingly

*Tricky Using with One Hand - I assume this is a no-brainer for most who have used or plan on using these types of cases, but attempting to use the device cradled in this case with a single hand, proves more difficult then you might suspect. Most of this has to do with the spine of the case not sitting flush with the back when the front is flipped over. Not a total deal breaker for me, but possibly for some.

Overall I'm quite happy with the purchase!

Notes:

Seller I purchased the device from (took about 9 days from China to the D.C. area):
eBay My World - samlink360

You can attempt to check the validity of the case (apparently there are lot of ROCK case knockoffs floating around out there) but I haven't been able to get the page to display properly:

Picked up the Incipio Silicrylic at Verizon the other day with my 25% discount. There were none on display, but when I asked about it they retrieved this one from the back. It was in a de-branded package like all their cases. What surprised me is that it is actually more of a pebble blue than the ones I've seen online. The closest I have seen online is the grey and this cant be it. Anyways, I absolutely love the case. It matches color, doesn't add much bulk + looks and feels great.

Yeah, that Incipio looks great! Too bad its innards are silicone, though. :-(

Sorry about the failure to pick up a Diztronic matte blue TPU case. The blue Belkin case from Verizon is near perfect for me. The gloss is grippy without being like silicone. Yeah, fingerprints accumulate, but I look at the front of my phone WAY more than the back... ;-)
