Transfer files to S3

Im on o2 uk.

android file transfer worked perfectly before the update, now it doesnt recognise when my phone is connected at all

Same problem here. It's like someone at either Samsung or Google doesn't want Mac owners using their phones! Grateful for any cable solutions. I can use Bluetooth, Kies Air out any of the various FTP wireless solutions, but when I'm traveling i need to be able to transfer large files or folders between my expensive new phone and my Mac. If that's no longer going to be an option, then I'll have to find another phone. I can't believe that Samsung, Google or whoever is responsible didn't check the compatibility before rolling out the update.

Thank God they're not doing anything important, like supplying security for the Olympics...

Yes I'm on a mac too. switching between the usb modes doesn't change anything at all.

I can't use kies either because I'm on OSX 10.8 and there isn't a client available.

Surely samsung can't have intended this to happen and it must be an overlooked mistake.

I don't want a work around, I want it to work like it should.

It's looking like the only option may be to return my device to factory settings.

Well im on a PC and im having MTP drivers issues so i tried doing a factory resest twice with no luck. I think apple and windows are secretly trying to sabotage the S3 by limiting its ability to connect with their computers. Or it could also be a partially broken interface on the S3.

Agree that Apple will sabotage an Android connection when they can, but MTP is a Windows thing, and a bear for unix based systems (Mac, Linux).

Samsung has a reputation for the last year of going off the reservation on MTP implementations. Not saying Windows is all perfect and beyond reproach here, just saying, look at the phone first.

So I contacted Samsung support about this problem and there is a very simple solution. When you connect your phone to your computer via the USB, swipe down from the top of the screen and you should see "Connected as Media Device", touch this option and another screen should come up. Then touch the "Camera" option and in the box next to it there should be a check mark. Automatically after that a window popped up on my computer and I am able to drag and drop files very easily. Hope this helps everyone.

I just plug mine in via the supplied usb. I've got an international s3. Pops up as two drives, internal and external sd cards. Works via MTP profile.

Have you installed the samsung drivers?

hello,
I have a Galaxy S3, and everything works just fine, when I plug in the USB on the phone and PC. A window will pop up an I can use a File Manager to browse the directories on SDCARD.

But only SDCARD is shown. Is there an option somewhere to switch to the other mounted (internal) devices?

you should not need a file manager program, just plug in and click My Computer and you should have Phone and Card too choose
