Help Nexus S Android Keyboard Issue

Hi!

I'm having issues with the android keyboard on my Nexus S (2.3.4 rooted, GRJ22). From time to time the keyboard is getting stuck, and I can't type anything anymore. No matter if I use it in the browser or in Apps.
The only thing that helps is a reboot of the phone, but I don't want to reboot my phone all the time.

Anyone having similar problems?

Hi, I'm having exactly the same issue as you, and unfortunately I have not been able to work this out. I have a stock 2.3.4 GRJ22. As you described, at completely random times the screen becomes unresponsive. At first, it was only the left side of the keyboard, mainly the Q, A and Z but lately the whole keyboard becomes unresponsive...I can't work it out.

It may work completely fine for a week and then it happens. Then fine again for 2 days and then it happens again. I'm trying to work out if this is a hardware issue or a software issue but I'm not having much luck trying to work it out.

Unlike you however I find that I don't always need to reboot, sometimes if I go back to the home screen and then back to whatever I was doing the keyboard unfreezes. But it is still VERY annoying!

Ok, quick update, I spoke with a Samsung rep via live chat, the best thing they could suggest was to do a 'reboot' via the startup menu, ie

1) Turn phone off
2) Hold down Volume Up and turn back on still holding Volume UP
3) On the startup menu screen select "Reboot"

She told me it is quite likely a "software glitch" of some kind and that she was "positive" that would fix the problem. I will test from tomorrow and see. I'll report back

Does anyone know of an official Samsung support email that I can query this with?

Update for anyone having this issue, I contacted Samsung support and they suggested for this issue the best thing to do was a "reboot" from the boot menu as I indicated above. I have been using the phone for almost 48 hours and no keyboard freezing has occurred so as far as I can tell it has done the trick.

For anyone having this issue I definitely recommend you try this.

HEY! I'm new. My name is JAIMIE. but I am having horrible issues with my new Galaxy Nexus S! I can't figure out how to get a keyboard on it for the life of me. Could somebody PLEASE help me out and either respond or call me ? 205 901 5291 to get a keyboard on there?? Why did they make it without a keyboard? I am so confused and, moreover, disappointed...

This may not be helpful, but assuming you are not talking about a physical keyboard, you should just go into an application like email or messaging, tap on the space for entering text and the keyboard should pop up.

On my Nexus S, if you tap the menu button, then settings, apps and swipe across to running apps it shows the keyboard as an active app. Perhaps you could check that it's running that way.

I suspect someone else will be able to be of more help. If not, take it back to the shop and have them look at it!

If you long press on a text box, you'll get an option that says "Input Method." Selecting it will give you a list of the installed keyboards. Perhaps the one that it's set to use has a compatibility issue.
