Who Has Screen Separation?

I have question about this because I have this problem. On the left side of my nexus 7 the screen is slightly raised. If I push it down slightly it stays for a little and it goes back to being a little raised. I do not hear creaking noises unless I repeatedly press very hard on the black portion in the middle of the left side next to the rim.

Question is - Is this an issue that can get worse and make ghosting appear because I have not been seeing any of that or will my screen slowly come apart? I want to know this because I can call google to get it replaced or just live with it because it is really not bothering me. As long as it will not get worse I do not think I will have any problems.

If you're mechanically inclined and careful, you should be able to tighten up the screws to fix it yourself.

I read that post but I also read a post that had to do with glue and that the most upper pannel is glued to the device. I will attempt to tighten the screws I just hope the screen is actually fastened with screws to the plastic!

How noticeable is it? I don't see anything. Would I see it if I had it?

I got to tell ya that I was actually looking for it otherwise not noticeable at all. You have to look at your device from the side where the metallic rim is and level that with your eyes. And start pressing the screen lightly - for me it was in the middle left where it was very slight floating of the screen you can see it lift up about a half a millimeter up. You really have to look for it

Slide your fingernail off the screen to see If your nail 'catches' on both sides. If not, you've got the fault

I tried the screws thing and tightened them all. It appeared as though the screen was fixed because I had turned off the tablet in the case of touching something that has electricity running through it and shorting it out. For a moment it looked as if the screen was fixed but when I turned it on and let it run for a little it still went up.

I think the best thing to do may be to keep my nexus 7 until they fix this issues and give google a call and tell them that this happened. What do you guys think?

I would call Google and see when they could get me another. I definitely couldn't send mine in and have to wait 2 or 3 weeks on another. I'd also check and see if they could send me one first.

I have mine in a case so I wouldn't notice the problem if I had it, but, you don't know if it might get worse with age and heat.

Yeah, I'm sure they know about it by now. Hopefully its something they can fix without a total redesign.

I have the screen lifting issue and if you look at the back of the screen in the iFixit teardown, http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Nexus-7-Teardown/9623/1 Section 20, the electronics for the screen are on the back of a screen in exactly the place where the lifting is happening. There is a plastic sheet over this (green plastic you can see in Step 19) and I guess that this is what is making the clicking noise. The screen assembly is therefore thicker at this point.

Hard to see how this can be resolved properly without a slight product redesign. The dangers of rapid product development I expect.

Called Google just now and managed to get through. They are sending me a replacement and I can continue to use the faulty one until I get it. Can't get much fairer than that. I don't imagine it will turn up for some weeks but who cares.

I think more accurately what we are seeing is a manufacturing defect in a batch of them.

Many many people (like myself) have received flawless units with no defects, but we don't talk as loudly or as often as the folks with complaints, so it appears that there are more people experiencing problems than there actually might be.

I posted a thread about this earlier. It seems that the creaking sound is actually a side effect of the screen lifting and being pushed in, and not the cause. After carefully examing some ifixit pictures, the only thing that I can conclude is that the glass itself is lifting off of it's backing because that black plastic backing seen in your post has a slight defect on that edge, causing the glue to be under stress. Factor in the heat inside a UPS truck and BAM, screen lift.

Mine finally arrives tomorrow! I really hope it doesn't have any issues whatsoever! An even worse scenario would be for it to arrive flawless, but then issues start popping up a few weeks later. If mine is going have any sort of issues, I hope it has them right away rather than giving me a false sense of security :O

Hello All,
I ordered two Nexus 7 16g tablets on June 27. I recieved them July 19th. Both out of the box had the left side of the screen raised and when I took the battery cover off I could clearly see the screen detached from the frame and the lack of adheasive on the left side...

I decided to return them for a refund. I have many questions and concerens.
Is there a poll on here to see how many people had this problem?
Will Google admit to this problem and fix it?
I want to know when its fixed so I can have confidance to order two more...

I don't have confidance in Google or Asus right now...

I'm pretty miserable. The os is nice and the quad core is nice.
I had to take the tablet away from my mom and myslef to send back...
I am on an emotional rollercoster now and this is the experience I have had from Google thus far.


I am very unhappy.

No they said that I have to buy two new ones and they will decide if they are defective I did not agree.

If they decide they are not defective then I will own all 4 instead of 2.

I am not okay with them charging my credit card prior to them sending out the new ones and the old ones being declared defective.

exactly the same problem here. although i didn't dare take the back off, given the build quality it showed up with hardly want to use the thing with fear of cracking the screen.

my problem is I don't have enough money for Google to charge me for another nexus while they make sure I'm not lying about this one. so I cant afford to get a replacement for a faulty good... I'm sure this is against some consumer law.

but I'm just going give up on trying to get a replacement and just try to get my money back. Google have disappointed me big time.

If there is any messing about with Google declaring my first N7 to be fault free after I have returned it and received my replacement I will be having a discussion with my card company and not Google.

Having dealt with Apple for many years, as long as Google behave like this Apple have little to fear.

If mine develops the issue, I will return it and wait. Odds are to high at this point that I'd just get another buggy N7. I always say I'm going to wait on new products because of these kinds of issue, but it's been such a long wait for a decent tablet at a good price.

I've got the same issue, though the raised edge is slight enough not to notice most of the time. If it continues to pull away I'll likely remove the screen and repair it myself with some better adhesive. Not a big deal.

They told you that you'd be charged? I was told that it was just a hold. They said that I would receive my new tablet first and a hold would be put on my account for the price of the replacement and it would be removed once they got my defective Nexus back.
