Important notice about data usage

Ok guys so here's the deal I just received a later stating that I am being monitored by sprint for "Violating Restrictions on using Sprints data services" I also received calls about this. It says that I will be closely monitored for ten days and if I violate it again I will be terminated. So has anyone else recoeved anything like this from sprint yet? It makes me feel uneasy being monitored by sprint this way. Where's my privacy?

I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. The only thing people deserve is the service they agreed to pay for, at the rate they paid for them.

Comparing wireless data to wireline data is a complete fallacy, as the two are hardly comparable for a rather long laundry list of reasons.
Although the methods differ, both wireline and wireless data carriers do more or less the same thing: establish an Internet connection for you.

Both have their own expenses and business that they have to deal with. None of them own a magic Internet tree.

The day will come when all ISPs will have to give up the sm

I don't think that is excessive... but if I was to do that everyday and use 50GB+ of data a month, I would fullyexpect my serviceto becutoff. Rightnow we areluckythatwe have unlimited data without Sprint planning to end it any time soon. If people start abusing it though that will change.

"With great power comes great responsibility" and right now I considerunlimited mobile data great power!
Looking back at it, Sprint really don't have any other choice. Considering their terrible 3g and scarcely 4g coverage. Maybe when they get their 3g enhancement and LTE network connections up to 99 percent of coverage area - then they might consider changing their slogan. And I quote, "Sprint is the only network with truly unlimited data" end quote. Lol'd. They kills me with that. :D

They are cracking down on unauthorized/breach of contract usage to protect their assets.

I'm not even going to comment on your privacy statement

Yea I figured they would, but if they boot me. Would they only be booting off my phone alone or my entire contract with my parents as well? And would I still owe them my amount of money plus the termination fee?

Don't worry about my privacy statement, I already had that answer long ago.

I really have no answer. I have only seen individual lines canceled in the past (mine included)

Not sure if it is an account or line issue

Yea I'm going to call in on Monday and find out, to be honest I have been using netflix a lot, pretty much all day since I don't have cable anymore. And I know that takes up a lot of data.

That shouldn't initiate a letter like that.

What is your data usage

do you tether
(tethering internet connection to another device, like a laptop or tablet)

and for those wondering above...no...hooking your tv up to your phone and watching a movie on it is not tethering.

turning on the mobile hotspot and sharing the data connection via hotspot or usb is tethering (usb tethering was once free, it is not anymore from what I understand)

Well I just saw my data usage, and I can see why they would monitor me.

My data usage is

3G Data
508,975 KB

4G Data
23,943,534 KB

Pretty huge -_-

And yea sometimes I do tether.
My girlfriend downloads YouTube videos and music.

Wow! that's a lot of data. It is prolly the tethering tho.

It's crazy...even in my heaviest usage I rarely go over 15 gb

Yea haha this is the first time I go over 15 gb usually I'm under that so idk, but if they cancel only my phone, and not my parents phone. And I don't have to pay the termination fee, ill just pay my bill and get a new phone and connect back up with them haha but I doubt it will be that simple.

I was booted for excessive roaming back then and just a one line acct.
The only reason I was able to come back was because I now work there....and even then I had to make calls to make it happen lol

my name was definitely flagged.

You could also consider paying for tethering....or just stop doing it ;)

Employees are terminated for it from what I understand.

What i would really like to know is how on earth do you even manage to keep a connection long enough to use 88 gbs? I am in an area that has lte and i have only seen that pop up once or twice and when i am on 3g my music just sits and buffers all day long. takes like 30 minutes to hear one freaking song. so again how on earth can you even manage to use 88gbs? blows my mind.

My monthly, according the Sprint website Data Usage page, starting last August, in GBs:

3.6, 3.6, 3.3, 3.8, 3.9, 4.5, 4.0, 3.6, 7.8, 5.7, 5.8, 7.0.

Not sure what I’m klinking to cause it to creep up like that, but they haven’t said a word... yet. If do I get sent down the plank, I guess it’s back to cable.

Damn... Are you powering your whole house w/ your phone?

Are you talking about Jefboyardee?? If so I think a max of 7.8 gb's of data in a month is more than reasonable for an unlimited data plan. I use more like 10 gb a month, I do not tether, and I don't really think of myself as a power user. Now the OP used a bit more than me I believe.
